Welcome to Hard Times (1967)
Often underrated masterpiece
This little movie is actually one of my favorites and may well be one of the best movies ever made. `Welcome to Hard Times' is not a traditional Western in many ways. It is more than that. It is a parable on life itself. As the title already suggests it is the eternal struggle against the difficulties in life. The evil man (Aldo Ray) that comes into town can mean a lot of things. For one he is the impersonation of all the evil that we encounter in life. This is not restricted to things that happen to us but also our inner ego, which we have to fight constantly. He impersonates our passions, our envies, our hate, our irrational behavior and many other things. Mayor Will Blue, played by Henry Fonda, on the other hand is our good side, which has to find courage to fight the evil side. As shown in the movie this does not succeed the first time. It is always difficult to fight evil, whether it comes from our own personality or somewhere else.
This town, named Hard Times, is hardly an easy place to life. Not only are the odds of the environment against its inhabitants but the town is also prey to an evil man who, because of the ingenious idea of denying him any character, seems like the ultimate challenge to a small community. The town is a magnet for other shady characters, like the man with his entertaining girls. And, no matter how small the place may be, it also contains racism represented by the Indian. Whether the movie is a critique of society, or of the individual, it is bears an important message. Never give up! Life can't be more difficult then for those people and they don't give up. Quite on the contrary the view through the gate of the cemetery at the end of the movie signifies that everyone is welcome to Hard Times.
Peppermint-Frieden (1983)
The worst picture I have ever seen
Peppermint Frieden is a movie one should not watch if one likes to enjoy just a little bit of suspense. This picture has not an ounce of suspense. I watched it on video and toward the end I only fastforwarded it! Peter Fonda's part in the movie is thin and his performance is without substance.
This picture is classified to be an art picture and thus not acceptable to 'normal' people. There is no interesting love story...
Did I say story? Sorry, but I believe it's not much more than a show of weird pictures and some stupid talking.
Mission: Impossible (1996)
The old series deserved better
I was very much disappointed by this flat action movie and its predictable ending. I am a fan of the old Mission:Impossible series of the 60s and 80s and therefore I think the plot is ridiculous at best. Why should Jim Phelps do what he did? He was always loyal through the many episodes of the series and there he could have gotten much more money if he had betrayed his team.
The reason why Peter Graves (Jim Phelps) did not star in this movie is because he did not agree with what I have just said.
Anyway this movie is NOT for fans of the series because there is nothing left of the teamwork spirit of the series. It is a one man show for Tom Cruise.
Star Trek: Voyager (1995)
The worst Star Trek
I agree with Mike Dessero insofar as this is the worst Star Trek series. But I would disagree as to the reasons. I think that it is most of all the plots which are so bad. They always seem to be a repeat from the TNG days. Then I think it is pretty ridiculous that the Voyager meets so many new people and then is friends with some as they move along.
I would rather like to see some mysterious stories that somehow meet the X-files but with a solution.
The actors are great as in any Star Trek and I would disagree as to Chakotay because I think he simply is a great actor. What I think is sad that the doctor is no longer as funny as he used to be and that the humor has disappeared virtually altogether.
