Ice Airport Alaska (2020)
Alaska is real America
I watch any shows based in Alaska. Heck, I've even watched "Molly of Denali" a kids educational cartoon.
Ice Airport Alaska is incredible. Instead of showing people living in wilderness we have a people who keep this Major Airport running. From maintenance guys changing runway lights in Zero Temp to people helping out an Eagles Nest.
Season 2 just started and the show Still Got It. Eventually all these shows run out of new and interesting material, but for now. Keep Rocking Ted Stevens.
White House Down (2013)
Turn it around and it gets better.
It really is a cheesy movie. The Flag Waving near end was way so ridiculous I couldn't even laugh.
But, If you root root root for the Bad Guys it does get better. Sort of like watching a movie on Battle of Stalingrad. I find myself rooting for the bad guys almost. Almost!
The Screwy Truant (1945)
Tex Avery's Twisted Tales
First thing that caught my attention was that my dad was fighting in the Pacific WWII when this was released. Things where not going well over there, but America still has to laugh. Right?
The violence and incredibly dizzying speedy scene changes are pure Tex Avery. There is no limit in animation and Tex pushed every limit. The Screwy Truant doesn't push too hard, but I could not hold in the laughs as I watch it today, probably 55yrs since I first saw it. Truant Officer sure had a thick skull. Take my word.
Sing a Song of Six Pants (1947)
"Oh, he don't wanna coat"
Classic Shemp Short. Shemp was back in his old spot and comfortable at it by now. There is no type of job you can give the boys that won't descend into mayhem.
Moe jumping over the counter early in this one still surprises me. He was in his early fifties by now. Had a lot of laughs left for quite a few years yet.
Fail Safe (1964)
Dom DeLouise in another classic.
It is hard to believe some of the best tv and movie funnymen ended up in this movie which is literally as serious a a heart attack.
For some bizarre reason George Clooney and some others tried to remake this with a live tv performance. I admire trying to bring this gem to a new audience, but no color or other modern tricks could improve this movie.
Only issue is personal, Larry Hagman will always be 'Master' and I laugh just looking a Dom DeLouise. Only thing missing is a guy named Slim riding a nuke into USSR.
Apocalypse: La 2ème guerre mondiale (2009)
Stunted by narration in USA
I saw this originally with an Australian narration, could be English or NZ. Martin Sheen is a very intense guy when acting. I like that very much. BUT, his narration is pretty bad here when compared with other countries version.
The series is awesome and cover many things not in other documentaries. The fact that it was mostly made by French artists really is obvious.
Martin Sheen loves to come up with his own pronunciation of towns and places. Some are laughable.
Try and watch the 25 part WWII series narrated by Laurence Olivier, that is the best. Most participants of the war are interviewed from all sides, even the losers got to speak.
Family Guy: Patriot Games (2006)
Ep 4-20 Hight Point
Most Post 9/11/01 Family Guy episodes were pretty 'spotty'. About 1/3 of content had nothing to do with Humor and turned in to angry political posturing. Yea, we get it Seth, you were mad and scared after your close call on 9/11.
BUT, this episode is brilliant. Even the Musical Number was crazy funny and I loathe musicals. From Lois and Meg peeping on Brady in the shower it amps up a notch when Stewie catches them and get s a peek. Then on top of that Peter pops in the shower to join Brady... Wow.
I stopped being an NFL fan after I could no longer tolerate the TD Antics and Showboating on EVERY single play. Here, they mock that to a Meteoric Level of Comedy.
Then the Brian Vs Stewie gambling bit is also Major Hilarity.
The Three Stooges in Orbit (1962)
Aw Come On, This is Fun!
Don't you dare take this serious. Our Boys are up to the usual nonsense that can lead to nothing but mayhem. They have been doing it the same for about 35 years by this time.
Sure they are in their 60's, except the 'kid', Curly Joe. Nothing they do makes sense and any normal person would walk away from the Flying Submarine.
They do some genuine funny bits, some older than The Stooges themselves and many around from their Vaudeville days. But they hit the mark and are very funny.
Relax and Enjoy this idiotic mindless comedy. "I don't think, I know it is funny". Get it? Did you catch that joke?
The Outer Limits: The Probe (1965)
The Probe, it grows on you.
Well, the Probe in the episode doesn't actually grow on you. Warts grow on you.
However, the actual episode grew on me. I have been around long enough. I was a small child when this episode originally aired in 1965 and surely saw it. We only had 1 TV in a 6 person family, but Outer Limits was a show that we watched.
Having watched all the OL episodes many times since, I can tell you 'The Probe' was one of my least favorite episodes. But each time I see it again I understand that the story and acting are what is important, not the SPFX and it gets better and better.
Peter Mark Richman is another 'thing' that gets better and better the more I see him. He was very popular TV actor well into the 1990's and is still in the business as late as 2016.
If you think 'The Probe' is a weak episode to end the Too Short of a run The Outer Limits enjoyed, Give it another watch. It is a Smart episode that the actors and writers took serious. Also, the whole premise and feel of the episode would show up, again and again in the SciFi world.
Thanks for reading, I know others lay out what is in the episode, so I sort of just spew out an anecdote or 2. PlanktonRules is the best reviewer I see on IMDb and pretty much every review he does (and that is a lot) seem to come directly from my own mind. eeeeeeewwwwww, cue the OL Opening Theme.
Gang Busters: The Duchess Spinelli Case (1952)
Wow, Pretty Good
First episode I ever saw. Judging by this episode Gang Busters seems a lot like Dragnet and Highway Patrol.
In this one, The Duchess organizes a bunch young loser boys to rob people by coming up behind and knocking them out.
That is until an older friend of The Duchess comes by and moves the organization up to the next level. Of course things go wrong robbing a diner and it is no longer small muggings. The Crew completely muffs the job and now it is Murder.
The little band of thieves start turning on each other and ... oh well. No Spoilers Please!
I Want to Live! (1958)
Another Preachy Hollywood Fantasy.
Just like the phony and 1/4 truth "Birdman of Alcatraz", "I Want to Live" is Hollywood trying to preach to the simple citizen type Americans.
I guess every generation needs to learn just how corrupt and political Hollywood is. They have no room to preach about Morals.
Barbara Graham was not only was guilty of Murder by being involved in conspiring to rob Mabel Monohan, she personally murdered the elderly women. The Jury Says So!
This is Hollywood's Statement on the horrors of the Death Penalty. I may agree with them, but lying to the American people and the world doesn't help. The Truth Will Out and you end up hurting the cause.
Now to the movie, it is actually well done and Hayward certainly deserved her Academy Award. I have been a Simon Oakland fan all my life and this is very first. The other Reviewers covered the excellent acting and riveting ending.. Gripping is my word for the final 1/2hr.
Just remember, Hollywood is filled with disgusting rotten people just like any other business. It is just when them businesses try and preach to Us simple folk how we should vote and causes we should support that they overstep. They Should best Keep Their Mouth Shut and just entertain us.
Quincy M.E.: On Dying High (1983)
The Great Roger Miller
Normally I don't write reviews because so many people do it so much better. Ray, Paul and Plankton to name a few.
But something was missing in the other reviews of this episode. One was mention of the great comic Richard Pryor who after freebasing cocaine in 1980 ended up in flames running down the street. It was first thought that an explosion from the chemicals used in freebasing caused this. Later Pryor admitted that after freebasing cocaine for days he poured 151 Proof Rum all over himself and lit himself on fire.
This even surely had something to do with this episode. BUT, the biggest mention needs to go to Roger Miller. Someone mentioned his singing was as bad as the jokes. Well, maybe they just meant in this episode because Miller was an absolute Giant in music industry.
Growing up as a baby boomer his music was everywhere. I remember as a kid loving his songs because they told great stories and were easy to follow. "King of the Road" and "Dang Me" were 2 of my favorites, but he had many more.
You owe to yourself to search out some of his hilarious and wonderful music. Give it a Listen. Even and old Punk Rocker like me still loves his stuff.
This Quincy Episode could have been horrible, but it was saved by Roger Miller and some serious issues. I gave it a barely passing grade for TV.
Diagnosis Murder: Town Without Pity (2002)
Narrow Minded movie
This TV movie starts off with Carol Sloan, Dr Sloan's daughter ending up in a hick town with tobacco chewing hillbilly types. Of course in true Hollywood fashion it never dawns on the writers that they are just as bigoted and narrow minded as the simpletons who don't like the Big City living that they try and roast in these type stories.
Racism rears it's ugly head and is the main reason things go so bad in this little town. Our big city Los Angeles visitors comment on how they can't stand this quiet boring town and what is there to do in Hicksboro County. L.A. is just so exciting and filled with tolerant law abiding people they can't wait to get back.
I can't believe Dick Van Dyke would be involved in such a horrible movie. All us people living out in Rural Land love our tobakky and moonshine and hate them educated city slickers.
Mile a Minute Love (1937)
Neat little movie
The copy I reviewed was really chopped up. I imagine they were only small bits and pieces missing, but some were actually at sort of important moments.
However, it was just an annoyance especially at the very end when the movie was wrapping up and the dialogue was chopped to bits.... almost like a modern day comedy of an old time movie.... all of a sudden The End appears.
The movie is about a guy who invents a new SuperCharger for boat motors. His girlfriend's dad is a grumpy, but very wealthy man who could help invest in the new machinery.
Duncan Renaldo plays the Heal who shows up not only to sabotage the supercharger but also to swindle a ton of money for the Wealthy Man.
Some fisticuffs and boat racing ad a little action.
Etta McDaniel always brings a smile to my face even if she is playing the stereotypical 'mammie' part. Duncan Renaldo would go on to star as the 'Cisco Kid' even gets a writing credit in this 1937 movie.
Gunsmoke: Two Tall Men (1965)
Episode Name Error
Concerning the confusion about this Episode, I ran into the same thing in 2016 as reviewer ReneFaye77 did.
As I was reading the review online from my TV App... it listed 'Two Tall Men' was to be airing.. the synopsis online says about Doc Adams and some Money.... etc etc.... Matt to the rescue..etc..
I quickly realized this was not what was unfolding on my TV.. Luckily, 'renafaye77' had a review that made sense, BUT other reviewers were describing the episode that was on my TV App.
So, for many years now and across different TV Stations, the Episode "Two Tall Men" is listed when the actual episode is "The New Society" which is posted on IMDb as the 35th Episode of Season 10.
I hope 'Two Tall Men' is a good as 'The New Society'. Which was Very Good.
Medic: My Child's Keeper (1955)
Thank UL and others this isn't as common
First thing younger viewers may think while watching is how easy and fast this fire starts. It is almost unbelievable to think of how common fires like this used to be. Even today flammable clothing and toys are pulled from the marketplace regularly.
Thankfully, we all learn and Underwriters Laboratory and even them darn lawyers that are so easy to sue everyone and every corporation have made things safer.
This episode is one of the more dramatic in the series. With a mother blaming a child for a horrible accident that should never have happened, but WHO is really at fault? Who is the really careless one? As in reality, this terrible accident was a string of almost unrelated failures and carelessness that led to a tragic event.
The Mystery Train (1931)
Very enjoyable movie
This movie is apparently in Public Domain and I downloaded it from Jimbo Berkey's fantastic site. I then uploaded to the Cloud and watched in on TV with my Streaming Media device (can I say Roku?).
I love anything to do with Railroading's Steam Days, so this would at least be a time killer on a rainy day.
However, it turned out to be a pretty darn good movie, with a neat story, good acting and GREAT railroading scenes.
Hedda Hopper was a better actress than you might have thought, if you even ever heard of her. She may even be better than her Son William, TV Perry Mason's Private Dick, Paul Drake. All the other actors were fine too.
I especially liked the Newlyweds on the Train, who along with the Porter supplied the Comic Relief. That and some genuine Hair Raising Train scenes really added to the movie.
I plan on watching this movie again and I think lots of other people might want to give it a look.
Tim and Eric's Billion Dollar Movie (2012)
Very Good
Not sure what some so called 'fans' where thinking or expecting, but this movie was like their best TV Skits on Steroids.
I read many reviews and think maybe they are just goofs. If you liked any of their Adult Swim TV you will love this movie.
I admit that about 1 in 10 of their skits just don't do anything for me. I don't get it or maybe it just didn't work and they aired it anyway. I think that is normal and both the guys probably would take 1 in 10 as a compliment since they are so over the top bizarre.
If you are a Tim and Eric fan or just a fan of the Alternative World, you really need to see this movie.
John C Reilly is one of the most talented actors in the world. He has done some serious acting that is better than good and his comedy characters are just Way Too F****** Funny!
CHiPs: Fun House (1983)
Embarrassing Bad
Never did I think I would write a review.
There is usually a review for each episode that tells enough of the story.
Season 6 without Larry Wilcox has enough low spots for everybody, but this one scrapes a new low.
It is a straight Rip Off of Animal House the movie, even called "Fun House", get it?
The always amusing Stephen Furst goes from playing 'Flounder' to the Bluto roll in this mish mash of stereotypes, with the typical uptight conservative Frat House enemies... can't believe one wasn't called Nedermeyer.
Some weird child abduction story even shows up with the unfortunate and tragic girl from Poltergeist. Her short legacy did NOT need this show on it.
Adventures of Superman: The Unknown People: Part II (1954)
One of my oldest memories Mole Men
Although I was born right around the time George Reeves died, I never knew that till years later. I guess my parents didn't want to have to explain to their child that The Man of Steel their son worshiped wasn't in fact Superman.
This episode(s) is probably the most memorable from when I watched the series in the 1960's. I felt so sorry for the Mole Men and to top it off they had to fight the frightened townsfolk off with a modified Vacuum Cleaner. Even as a kid I realized their weapon looked almost exactly like my Aunts Rug cleaning machine.
Like I said, I didn't not know till I was a teenager and had moved on to shows with Girls!!! that George Reeves had died. Would I have been such a devoted fan of this series....well, it is 50 years later and I am thrilled that it is back on TV where I can watch it all over again.
Adventures of Superman: The Human Bomb (1953)
No comment until the time limit is up....
I can not tell you how much I loved this show as a kid Noel Neill would always be my favorite Lois Lane, but Phyllis Coates was always the most beautiful woman to play the roll. That includes present day versions of Superman.
This is actually a pretty weak episode in the series, of course all were unbelievable, but some just didn't even make any sense.
A silly guy just trying to win a bet would not go through all this trouble, but even from nearly 50 years later the taped message from Superman "No comment until the time limit is up" rings in my ears.
Butler was a real sap. Lois Lane always wore the tightest dresses possible, even for walking around on the side of High Rise.
Emergency!: 905-Wild (1975)
Interesting to say the least
Emergency! 905-Wild. Jack Webb wanted to show and praise some other public servants. The Animal Rescue squads with a TV Show of their own.
It wasn't to be, but the pilot appears to have been chopped up and turned into an Emergency! episode. I just saw it and many of the edits show up as what reminds me the way torn film splices from old movies looked.
Getting to see a very young Mark Harmon as one of the stars was really cool. The Emergency! regulars look a bit uncomfortable at times. Probably cause they didn't understand what was going on.
Jack Webb, R.A. Cinader and guys like that who wanted TV shows that really showed how some of our First Responders worked and even their domestic issues, was something I have always thought as valuable. Many mocked his Dragnet deliveries, but he really didn't want the actors to be the stars. Just wanted to show people 'The Facts, ma'am, just the facts'
Emergency!: The Mouse (1975)
Emergency The Mouse.. 4/20
'The Mouse' Season 4 Ep. 20
This is a pretty good episode..most are good, but this one is pretty good. Pretty Darn Good even.
As usual the light comedy stuff is always good, but there is some real action and even some tender life issues covered.
A Fighter Jet crashing into apartments! Are you kidding me?
I would put this episode up against any made for TV Movie of the era.
I love watching this and other shows from these times because you can catch some youngsters before they were stars, but also some great character actors near the end of their careers.
The Twilight Zone: In Praise of Pip (1963)
Classic McGuffin
Vietnam and War have nothing to do with this story.
Hitchcock talked about "McGuffin".. a plot device that had nothing to do with the actual story. "Psycho" had the stolen money early in the movie that ended up having nothing to do with the real plot.
Here it is War and Vietnam.. Pip could just as well have been seriously injured in a mountain climbing accident or hit by a stray bullet in a Bank Robbery gone bad resulting in a shootout on the streets.
Like many TV Dramas of the time, this is about Redemption. Our desire to undo the bad things in our past and just how much we are willing to sacrifice to erase our past sins.
This episode stands out because of Klugman, you really feel his soul being torn out and his desperation.
Did he receive a 'Gift' or just an hallucination? That depends on the viewer.
The Wild Wild West: The Night of the Returning Dead (1966)
I remember
The very fact that I remember this from it's original broadcast says a lot.
When I saw it again today I realized that we only had a B&W TV back in 1966, so I was surprised to see it was actually a color episode.
I was a very young back in the mid 60's but certain TV episodes I can still remember and they stick in mind. I mostly watched McHale's Navy, Munsters, Addams Family and other comedies back then.
BUT, certain 1 hour shows the 'grownups' watched stick with me... The Spooky Ghost on the Horse must have stuck in my nightmares or something, because when I saw the start of this episode I let out a smile and knew I would sit down to watch it all.
Sammy Davis Jr was always a favorite in my house. Loved his singing, but his occasional acting gigs on TV back then was a treat.
