Reflecting on his past contributions to the franchise in Ghost Protocol and Rogue Nation, Renner reminisces fondly about his experiences working alongside the star-studded cast. He attributed his departure from the series to the demanding filming schedules conflicting with his familial responsibilities as a parent. Nevertheless, Renner admired Tom Cruise’s leadership within the franchise, emphasizing his respect during the Collider conversation.

According to GiantFreakinRobot, Tom Cruise is rumoured to star in a remake of Clint Eastwood’s The Gauntlet, which Christopher McQuarrie will direct. Other scoopers, such as EmpireCity, have added that Scarlett Johansson will be starring alongside Cruise, which would mark the first time the two actors have worked together.
Nothing has been officially announced, so take all of this with a grain of salt for now, but both Tom Cruise and Scarlett Johansson have previously stated that they would love to work together. At the premiere of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, Cruise was certain that it would happen. “Look, I’ve watched her career her whole life,” Cruise said. “She’s enormously talented, very charismatic. It’d be fun. She could do everything. She could do comedy, drama, action, suspense. She’s someone that really draws you in on the screen, on camera. So absolutely, it’s gonna happen.

Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow will remain arguably her most recognized role in her career. The actress played the character for over 10 years. Her heartbreaking sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame still haunts fans, but the actress returned for one last time as the character in 2021’s Black Widow.
Scarlett Johansson and Florence Pugh in 2021’s Black Widow
The film had an intense opening sequence where Thunderbolt Ross and his forces hunt down Black Widow, who is in hiding after the events of Captain America: Civil War. One of the notable locations that was included in this sequence was Georgia’s Macon Terminal Station. Now, James Gunn’s Superman is set to film in that popular location for one of its scenes.

Tom Cruise is renowned for his work in the action genre throughout his career. What started with Top Gun (1986), began to expand with the actor gaining widespread acclaim for performing his own risky stunts in movies, including the Mission: Impossible franchise.

With the franchise surging past the $4 billion benchmark (as per the Numbers), thanks to its intriguing storylines, Cruise’s star power, and iconic action stunts among others, it will be quite interesting to witness what the next installment has to offer. Tom Cruise’s new movie, Mission: Impossible 8, is in the process of being filmed, and the sequel to last year’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One promises to deliver us yet another action-packed installment. And while the release date has been pushed back a whole year, updates are coming in quickly, and we have learned that Katy O’Brian has joined the movie cast in an unspecified role, as of the time of writing.
This piece of information is definitely welcome, as O’Brian has recently received praise for playing Jackie in the romantic thriller Love Lies Bleeding alongside Kristen Stewart, with Jena Malone, Anna Baryshnikov, Dave Franco, and Ed Harris also starring. Disney and MCU fans might know O’Brian from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, appearing as Jetorra, but also from The Mandalorian, where O’Brien played the treacherous Elia Kane. If you haven’t yet seen A24 and Saint Maud director Rose Glass’ new movie Love Lies Bleeding, you should definitely get out there and support it in theaters while you can. The critically acclaimed romantic thriller is one of this year’s best movies so far, driven by incredible lead performances from Katy O’Brian and the always compelling Kristen Stewart.
Katy O’Brian just landed a huge role in Mission Impossible 8, but what’s next for Kristen Stewart? Well, for starters, don’t expect to see her in any Marvel movies anytime soon.
Stewart tells the “Not Skinny but Not Fat” podcast, “I will likely never do a Marvel movie … it sounds like a fucking nightmare, actually.” She further explains, “You would have to put so much money and so much trust into one person … and it doesn’t happen.”

Tom Cruise Once Slammed His Mission Impossible Crew For This Reason. (Photo Credit – IMDb)
Tom Cruise is very dedicated to his work and ensures his crew members do not fool around. The Hollywood A-lister has a pretty good reputation in the industry, barring the Scientology controversy, but he once lost his temper while doing Mission Impossible 7, aka Mision: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. An audio of him criticizing the crew members was allegedly published by a leading media outlet and at a studio in the UK.
The Mi franchise led by Cruise is one of his most popular ones, and the fans eagerly wait for every part. However, Mi 7 failed to create the same magic at the box office as its predecessors because of the Barbenheimer effect. It was released in the same month as Oppenheimer and Barbie. As last year’s Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning (which has dropped the “Part One” subtitle since it hit home video) wrapped up, we saw that Tom Cruise’s Imf agent lead character Ethan Hunt would live to run another day – and pictures from the set of Mission: Impossible 8 (which won’t be called Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two after all) show him doing just that! Cruise running is a big part of these movies and his overall career, so it’s nice to see that Mission: Impossible 8 will indeed have him moving across the screen as fast as his legs can carry him. There’s even some video from the set as well, if you want to see this run in action.

Alec Baldwin has been going through the worst phase of his life as he has been entangled in the case against him in the accidental shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. The tragic incident occurred during the shoot of Baldwin’s film Rust in 2021. The actor was recently indicted on the charge of involuntary manslaughter in January for the shooting.

"Light the fuse..." Paramount+ has revealed a Super Bowl TV spot for the Mission: Impossible movies. Our guess is that this was originally meant to be a big preview for Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part Two, which was set to release in June 2024 following Part One last summer. Thanks to the strikes last year, that sequel has been delayed for another year entirely - and they aren't calling it "Dead Reckoning Part Two" anymore either. We'll have to wait for an update on this one - which is expected around May 2025 now. In the meantime, it looks like they kept this airtime and made this Mission: Impossible franchise recap video instead. Tom Cruise's account tweeted out the video with this amusing note: "It's hard to put all 7 films into 90 seconds, but we certainly had fun trying." This 90-second video features a few of the most iconic stunts: the Burj Khalifa,...

The news of Tom Cruise setting a “strategic partnership” with Warner Bros. has certain “Top Gun” fans barrel-rolling out of control. Don’t panic, put on your oxygen mask before you attempt to help others — and definitely don’t jump without a chute, because a third “Top Gun” has been in development for a while now, a source told IndieWire.
“Top Gun: Maverick” screenwriter Ehren Kruger is working on the next film in the franchise, according to Puck News. The threequel-creating installment will reunite Cruise with his “Maverick” co-stars Miles Teller and Glen Powell. Producers Jerry Bruckheimer and David Ellison will be back, and “Top Gun: Maverick” director Joseph Kosinski is also set to return — either as director (again), or at least to produce.
Paramount Pictures declined comment on this story; a spokesperson for “Top Gun” co-producer Skydance did not immediately respond to our requests for comment.

Where would the 2023 box office be without the bomb and the bombshell?
“Barbenheimer” may have started as a meme, but the two seemingly different blockbusters with twin release dates became the moviegoing phenomenon of the year. All that social media chatter translated into ticket sales (and then some), with the Warner Bros. comedy “Barbie” capping off 2023 as the highest-grossing movie ($1.44 billion) and Universal’s historical biopic “Oppenheimer” as the third-biggest hit (a staggering $951 million).
Studios were (finally!) rewarded for bucking the overly familiar and embracing the new and novel. Remarkably, the top three movies of the year — Universal’s animated “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” ranks as No. 2 with $1.35 billion — were original properties. Sure, “Barbie” is based on the world-famous doll, Mario is arguably video games’ greatest mascot and J. Robert Oppenheimer is a real person who changed the course of history. So even if they weren’t whole-cloth creations,...

Last week, Marvel Studios pulled “Deadpool 3” from its May 3, 2024 release date, leading many to speculate if more studios would soon shuffle their schedules. And as the SAG-AFTRA strike crosses the 100-day barrier, several blockbusters on next year’s release calendar for Paramount move to different spots. Is the biggest name moving? Deadline reports that “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two” will now open on May 23, 2025, instead of June 28, 2024, as that film needs to resume production.

Paramount has moved back the release of the eighth “Mission: Impossible” film from June 2024 to May 23, 2025, with insiders at the studio citing production delays due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.
The eighth “Mission” film, which is produced by Skydance, will take the Memorial Day slot previously held by an untitled “Spongebob SquarePants” film, which will now head to December 19, 2025 as a family competitor to 20th Century’s third “Avatar” film.
The June 28, 2024 release slot previously held by “Mission” will now be taken by “A Quiet Place: Day One,” which was previously slated for a March 2024 release. Paramount also moved the John Krasinski family film “If” up a week to May 17, 2024, placing it ahead of a Memorial Day weekend slate that includes Warner Bros.’ “Furiosa” and 20th Century’s “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.”

Following Disney’s delay of Marvel Studios’ Deadpool 3 due to the actors strike, Paramount has made changes to next year’s schedule and beyond.
Similar to Deadpool 3, Mission Impossible 8 ne Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two needs to restart production, and that is looking unlikely with each day that passes in the SAG-AFTRA strike. The Tom Cruise sequel moves from June 28, 2024 next year to May 23, 2025 Memorial Day. The studio will have to access to Imax screens and Memorial Day is a special place as that’s where Cruise launched his biggest movie of all-time, Top Gun: Maverick to $1.49 billion WW.
Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One grossed $172.1M domestic, $567.5M WW this past summer. That’s a lot of money to remove from the 2024 box office, but such is the nature of the business right now. Mission: Impossible 8 will get a three-week run in Imax...

July’s Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One ended on something of a cliffhanger, so when will the Mission Impossible 8 arrive in theaters?
Paramount’s venerable Mission: Impossible franchise has everything action movie fans could want: Death-defying chase scenes, high-stakes storytelling, and mind-boggling stunts personally performed by lead Tom Cruise.
At last check, the scheduled release of Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two is in flux due to the Hollywood strikes, which forced production on the film to grind to a halt. SAG-AFTRA, however, is currently in negotiations with the studios, which could spell an imminent end to the work stoppage.

"Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One," one of the best action movies of the year, hits digital this week, enabling fans to watch the latest Tom Cruise spectacular from the comfort of their own homes. In honor of this release, we have an exclusive clip from one of the best scenes in the film — the thrilling finale set aboard the Orient Express. And this isn't just an ordinary clip, oh no! It features commentary, from director Christopher McQuarrie and editor Eddie Hamilton.
In the clip, we hear McQuarrie say, "This is one of my favorite compositions in the film," adding: "This is where I really developed an addiction to extreme, punishing conditions." The filmmaker points out that adding "miserable elements" and turning them up to 11 works to enhance the drama. And of course, it's also pointed out that Tom Cruise really did climb on top of a moving train,...

When the director and top two stars of “Deadpool 3” showed up in Taylor Swift’s VIP suite at the New York Jets-Kansas City Chiefs game earlier this month, it fueled rumors that the pop star would appear in the film as the mutant rock-n-roller Dazzler. It also underscored the importance to Disney of the movie, which is expected to be the studio’s top priority when production resumes in the post-strike world.
“Deadpool” is one of several tentpole franchises that will dominate the production pipeline once SAG-AFTRA ends its strike and Hollywood fully gets back to work, insiders told TheWrap. Among studios’ other top priorities are the eighth installment of “Mission: Impossible,” “Beetlejuice 2” and “Captain America: Brave New World.” But a backlog of half-finished projects and others that are itching to get started has resulted in a traffic jam that will be complicated to free up.

Kevin Costner’s two-part Western epic “Horizon: An American Saga” is coming to theaters next summer.
“Chapter 1” will be released on June 28, 2024, and “Chapter 2” will land on Aug. 16, 2024, according to Warner Bros. and New Line. The first movie will open against Tom Cruise’s “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two,” while the sequel premieres a week after Lionsgate’s “Borderlands” adaptation, starring Cate Blanchett and Kevin Hart.
Costner has teased big plans for “Horizon,” which he originally planned as “four different movies” to be released every three months. “They’re all different films that all connect, so you’re watching a saga of these storylines that are happening,” he told Variety last year. It is not clear if Costner still plans to stretch “Horizon” into a four-part saga.

Now that the WGA and the AMPTP have finally found a similar plane of terms to agree on, the picket lines have thinned out with the writers going back to work. The big gains in the deal that the studios have made with the writers similarly apply to what the Screen Actors’ Guild has been fighting for since joining the strike. It is said that the resolved issues with the writers, which include the regulated use of AI for films and TV shows as well as residual pay for streaming projects, can also transfer to the actors’ terms. The actors’ union and the studios are scheduled to resume negotiations on Monday.
The resolution of the writers’ strike could hopefully mean a similar resolution for SAG-AFTRA as well. Once the actors’ union and the studios reach their own agreement, all the projects that have been put on pause will be back on after months of striking.

Pencils ready.
Now that the writers strike is over, Hollywood studios are gearing up to get production rolling again — once the other half of this year’s dual strike, the ongoing SAG-AFTRA walkout, is finally settled.
From “Star Trek” to “Superman: Legacy” to “Abbott Elementary” to “Wednesday,” every studio, network and streamer has priority film and TV projects that they hope to fast-track back into development or production. Audiences cannot survive on reruns alone. Had the strike lasted a few weeks longer, the 2023-24 broadcast season would have become even more dependent on unscripted shows and programs imported from streaming platforms and overseas markets.
Several big movie projects could see preproduction resume quickly. Paramount is hoping to have writers fine-tuning scripts for its planned reboot of “Star Trek” and its adaptation of Tom Clancy’s “Rainbow Six.” And Warner Bros. would dearly love to see Matt Reeves hunched over his computer,...

The Hollywood strikes may be drawing to a close; but for many 2024 films, avoiding delays may be the real mission impossible for Dead Reckoning Part 2.
As the title suggests, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two is the sequel to 2023's Dead Reckoning directed by Christopher McQuarrie and starring Tom Cruise in his perennial role as Ethan Hunt.
The film was originally set to release on June 23, 2024, and still holds that date. However, a new update suggests audiences may have to wait for Mission: Impossible 8.

Marc Webb has closed a deal to direct Skydance’s long-in-development Bermuda Triangle action-adventure titled “Bermuda,” according to an individual with knowledge of the project.
The logline is being kept under wraps.
Although Skydance has been developing “Bermuda” for a while, the current version is still in its initial stages, and no writer is currently attached to it until the WGA strike ends. Webb will consult on the script, but it is not expected to take up co-writing duties.
David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger will produce for Skydance. Aimee Rivera will oversee the project for Skydance.
Coming off the hugely successful “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One,” Skydance’s live-action film slate includes “Heart of Stone,” “Spy Kids: Armageddon” and “The Old Guard 2” for Netflix as well as “The Family Plan,” “The Gorge,” and “Mayday” for Apple TV+ and “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part Two.

"Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One" may not have been the hit that Paramount Pictures was counting on, but the sequel has been handed a major lifeline. Tom Cruise's latest, which hit theaters back in July, was one of the biggest blockbusters of the summer in every sense. Thanks largely to delays and other expenses incurred by the pandemic, the budget rose to an eye-melting $290 million. Fortunately for Paramount, they've now got a huge chunk of that back, thanks to a successful lawsuit.
As reported by The Times, Paramount has confirmed it received a £57 million payout from Swiss insurance firm Chubb. That equates to about $71 million. Paramount had a $100 million insurance policy with Federal Insurance Company, a unit within Chubb's larger corporate umbrella. Director Christopher McQuarrie and the rest of the crew were forced to shut down production several times while filming "Dead Reckoning" due to pandemic-related issues.

Much attention has been paid to "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One" and its performance at the box office. More specifically, the movie is performing relatviely well, at least compared to its gigantic $300 million budget. In short, the seventh entry in the long-running action series fell at least a little short of expectations, which were admittedly sky-high. Even so, Tom Cruise's latest adventure as Ethan Hunt still quietly pushed the franchise past an important milestone.
The "Mission: Impossible" series has now cumulatively crossed the $4 billion mark at the global box office. According to The Numbers, the seven films have collectively taken in $4.11 billion to date, including the $541.8 million earned by "Dead Reckoning, Part One" so far. That averages out to $588.3 million per entry, with an average budget of $159 million per entry. Even though the budget for this latest installment was greatly inflated, it's easy to see why Paramount...

Business-wise, "Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One" may have been a slight victim of the Barbenheimer phenomenon, but that didn't mean that Christopher McQuarrie's third entry in the franchise wasn't another stellar piece of blockbuster entertainment from what is easily the greatest Hollywood franchise going.
Paramount Pictures made the weird decision of opening "Dead Reckoning" just one week before all the premium screens were swallowed up by "Oppenheimer." However, for those of us who did see it on those screens (I actually saw it four times), it blew us away with its impeccable craft, breathless action, and fun, twisty, timely tale of artificial intelligence. In fact, it currently sits atop my list as the best film of 2023 so far, and when the lights went up in the theater after the film ended, I wanted to watch "Dead Reckoning Part Two" immediately.

The following contains major spoilers for "Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One."
In "Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation," director Christopher McQuarrie introduced Ilsa Faust, a smart, sexy, highly capable spy playing all angles. As played by Rebecca Ferguson, Ilsa became something of a revelation to the franchise — someone who could go toe to toe with Ethan Hunt. In fact, she was so effective that she returned for not one but two sequels, which isn't exactly common for this series (outside of the ever-present Ving Rhames). Ilsa quickly became a fan favorite, thanks to how complex the character was written, how much she kicked ass, and Ferguson's compelling, sleek performance. In short, Ilsa was a great character.
And then "Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One" went and killed her off.
As a big Ilsa fan, this twist left a bad taste in my mouth. First of all, it reeks of...

The recent decision for SAG-AFTRA to strike came as a result of failed negotiations with the AMPTP (Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers), resulting in – coupled with the ongoing WGA strike– a potentially industry-crippling halt. So what were the issues at hand and how did the negotiations fail? According to a recent release from SAG-AFTRA, it came down to their feeling that “those in charge of multibillion-dollar media conglomerates are rewarded for exploiting workers.”
Here are some of the issues that came up in the negotiations between SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP:
SAG-AFTRA asked for an 11% wage increase, while AMPTP pushed for 5%, although the union says there would be “a significant pay cut due to inflation and it is likely you would still be working for less than your 2020 wages in 2026.”

For the first time since 1960, both the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) are collectively on strike. WGA began its strike in May, and SAG recently joined in this labor dispute between the two guilds and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) after they failed to reach an agreement and previous respective contracts expired a day before each strike began.
While the productions with finished scripts were allowed to continue when WGA started the strike, the whole of Hollywood is now basically frozen since actors that are members of SAG aren’t allowed to film any movie and TV productions and also aren’t allowed to promote or give interviews for any of the coming movies while the strike is ongoing. The situation is trickier than ever, and it’s impossible to say how long it’s going to last.

While this may get repetitive since nearly every film production is shutting down per the actors’ strike, there are notable big-budget tentpole films that are finding themselves in the middle of the trouble. It was already reported that Gladiator 2 and Mortal Kombat 2 were halted as soon as the actors’ strike took effect. THR reports that several Hollywood tentpoles for the 2024 release calendar have stopped shooting due to the guild’s strike commencing this morning. That includes “Mission Impossible 8,” “Deadpool 3,” Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator 2,” and “Vemon 3,” among others. Other titles in production right now, like “Beetlejuice 2” and Clint Eastwood‘s “Juror #2” have also reportedly shut down, but THR doesn’t have official confirmation on those yet.
