Written and directed by Swedish filmmaker Jon Blåhed, the film is inspired by true events captured in the novel Dagning; röd! by award-winning minority Meänkieli language author Bengt Pohjanen.
The drama, which is currently in the second half of its shoot in northern Finland and Sweden, will be the first feature shot in Meänkieli, which is spoken by some 70,000 people in the Torne Valley but was suppressed by the Swedish state for decades.

The film is set in the small fishing town of Hirtshals, Denmark, where life is intricately intertwined with the sea, as it both takes and gives. Has there ever been a more perfect title for a film during awards season than “Everything Everywhere All at Once”? It vividly describes how the movie has dominated since 2023 dawned, earning accolades everywhere and seemingly all at once – well, except for the Golden Globes and the BAFTAs, anyway. I feel like the Daniels could melt down their trophies and start their own precious metals concern. It wouldn’t shock me to learn that “Daniel” has shot to the top of the list as favorite new name for a male baby, and that Elton John’s tune “Daniel” is suddenly number one again 50 years after its original release.
This is indeed a very good time to be Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, the two-headed beast who wrote and directed “Everything Everywhere.” They’re on track to personally win three Academy Awards on Sunday, coming off a weekend when their film cleaned...

On The Young and the Restless, 2023 did not start well for Lily and Billy. Billy met up with Lily in a field on New Year’s Eve to watch the fireworks together. But Lily was upset by Billy’s lack of planning.
While it seemed like Billy spending a lot of time with Chelsea was the problem, Lily claimed it was more than that. She didn’t end their relationship entirely but asked for some time apart.
But some fans speculate that Chelsea won’t come between Lily and Billy. Now that Michael Graziadei has resumed his role as Daniel, his return could very well inspire Lily to end her relationship with Billy once and for all.

While the pandemic failed to vanquish awards season in 2020, one key prize was left out of the picture. For many filmmakers, the Palme d’Or is the most revered accolade on the planet, and in 2019, it set the bar high. After Bong Joon Ho’s “Parasite” won the Competition and went on to commercial and critical success — not to mention that historic Oscar for Best Picture — many expected that it would place renewed focus on Cannes as a major launchpad for international cinema. That didn’t happen in 2020, as the festival canceled its physical edition, but it’s back to business as usual in 2021.
With Spike Lee as its president, the return of the Cannes Competition looks to be one of the most unpredictable in years. He’s joined by an international group of filmmakers and actors, mostly women, whose work suggest a wide array of sensibilities in play: The other directors are Mati Diop,...

Lucifer Season 5 Episode 13
“That’s what you get for bringing a beanbag to a demon fight.”
Love is in the air, and as long as the principals don’t overthink things too much, everything should work out that way God intends it. We just don’t know who’ll be taking over should Lucifer’s father make good on his intent to retire. Since a peaceful transfer of power doesn’t appear imminent, “A Little Harmless Stalking” takes the opportunity to deliver some of the series’ most poignant and heartfelt moments, and Lucifer appears on track to continue breaking new ground in its quest to dig deeper into the human psyche.
First things first. Talk about burying the lede. “I’ve just decided. I’m going to be God.” As delicious as it is to consider a replacement for The Man Above, after the last episode,...

The one development in the genre over the last decade has been to see it merge, on occasion, with the haunted-house film — a comfortable enough mashup, though it’s kind of like pairing two pop stars to create a hit single out of their combined demos. If the head-spinning success of “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” (2005), and the resurgence of the exorcist film that it inspired, proved anything, it’s that the tropes of demonic possession — the young victims tied to their beds, their faces gray-blue and mottled with sores; the tauntingly blasphemous devil voice that sounds like Darth Vader as the announcer at a strip club; the priests brandishing their tiny crosses and spewing their “Cast thee out!” liturgical spells — have become the horror equivalent of classic rock. They’re the golden oldies that never change,...

Patinkin will play Hal Wackner, a layman with no legal training who spontaneously decides to open a court in the back of a copy shop. Against all odds, the court catches on, and the team at Reddick, Boseman & Lockhart find themselves contending with judgements that mean nothing legally, but are honored by much of the entertained public.
This marks Patinkin’s return to television following his eight-season run as CIA vet Saul Berenson on Showtime’s Homeland, which landed him a Golden Globe nomination and four out of his seven Emmy nominations. I am a sucker for a true story and I am even bigger sucker for true stories I know of – ones I can remember seeing on the news or talking about with my friends. The Bin Laden compound raid was something you couldn’t miss, so when Zero Dark Thirty came out it was an absolute must. There has been no shortage of movies about the numerous conflicts across the years and while not all of them stick the landing, they tend to be compelling viewing if only to satisfy our morbid curiosity for an hour or two.
Daniel is a movie that definitely got my interest for a number of reasons. Firstly we have Toby Kebbell, an actor I’m fascinated by; next was the mention he was playing James Foley and...

69: The Saga of Daniel Hernandez, the latest documentary from Vikram Gandhi, is a cute title but it hardly fits the bill. What felt like a promising premise and a deserved look into the life of a music superstar turns into an unnecessary story of how Daniel Hernandez successfully marketed his fake personas as a vessel for fame, and trolled the hip-hop world.
To a fault, the film at times moves like a Vice TV special––even giving each section a chapter name like “Soundcloud Rap” and “The Villain.” It’s an easy device to highlight what the director is taking us through. It also glorifies his early-day marketing techniques like he’s some kind of genius for featuring sex in his music videos when he started his crew “Scum Gang,” which then later on escalated to gang violence. There is intrigue when 6ix9ine gets caught up with the FBI,...

Odds are that the spread of coronavirus — and the forced family time that social distancing necessitates — are stirring up some “big feelings” in little ones. (And, let’s be honest: in their parents, too.)
Luckily, there’s a red-sweater-clad cat who’s very familiar with kids’ emotions, as well as with teaching grown-ups how to engage with them. PBS’ Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood — an animated offshoot of the classic Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood — is a go-to for the preschool set when it comes to unpacking situations that are overwhelming (the first day at a new school), exciting (a new sibling is on the way!

One of the consequences of the BBC’s decision to start up their own streaming service (how dare they) is that a lot of their shows will soon be departing from their competitors.
Britbox, in partnership with ITV, launched in the UK last November, and now the content available elsewhere has started to catch up. Today we’re going to run through the wealth of titles that’ll exit Netflix UK at the end of March. There’s a lot to run down, too. And yes, this is redundant for American readers. You’re more than welcome to stay for tea, though (which is more than just a cultural stereotype).
First up – and probably of most interest – are the BBC comedies leaving on March 30th:
A Bit of Fry and Laurie (4 Seasons) Absolutely Fabulous (6 Seasons) Almost Royal (2 Seasons) Daniel Deronda (1 Season) Extras (2 Seasons) Fawlty Towers (2 Seasons) French and Saunders (6 Seasons...

GÖTEBORG, Sweden — Home to the most dynamic streaming markets in Western Europe, the Nordic region still posted solid box office returns in 2019, especially from Hollywood tentpoles “The Lion King,” “Avengers: Endgame” and “Joker,” which ruled on all top ten charts, except in Denmark. Local fare, however, lost ground in all five territories.
Denmark
Denmark enjoyed another strong cinemagoing year in 2019, with overall revenues up 4% to Nok 1.18 billion ($175.1 million). After a record 2018, when Danish films punched a 30% market share, home-grown titles still retained 26% of the market – above the 25% average of the last decade, according to the Danish Distributors’ Assn., Fafid.
Boosted by the local animated sensation “Checkered Ninja,” total admissions for local fare reached 3.5 million. Created by comedian-turned director Anders Matthesen, a late 2018 kid’s movie release, sailed to the top of the 2019 Danish box office, earning $8.2 million and accounting for 17.7% of all tickets sold for Danish pics. Humanistic, life-affirming stories don’t sound like a Hollywood business plan, but for the last 15 years it’s worked for financier Big Beach. It’s New Year’s Eve and we’re counting down to the most venerable of holiday traditions — the Times Square ball drop to usher in 2020.
Security is high for the iconic ball drop, with drones monitoring Times Square for the first time in its history, and thousands of police both in plainclothes and in uniform keeping an eye on the festivities. The weather forecast, unlike some years, is mild, with temperatures forecast in the low to mid-40s.

Jordan’s Royal Film Commission has raised the upper limit of the cash rebate on eligible productions filming in the Kingdom to 25%, from the current 20%. The agency made the announcement on Sunday at the Busan International Film Festival’s Asian Film Market on Sunday.
Legendary Entertainment’s ‘Dune’ is one of the first Hollywood productions taking advantage of the revised incentive. The incentive also extends to the streaming companies.
The rebate scheme now ranges from 10-25% on all qualified expenses incurred within Jordan on film, television, web series and radio production, commercials, photography, electronic games and animation. The expenses should not exceed 75% of the production’s overall value.
The scheme requires a minimum spend of $1 million. The maximum rebate granted to a foreign production has now been lifted to $2 million, and is provided to a production services company registered in Jordan. To qualify, the production must employ at least 50 Jordanian crew members and train 20 interns.
