The trio will each direct two episodes of the series, which was picked up at Netflix in March. Semanoff also directed episodes of “Ozark.” Jude Law will also star in “Black Rabbit.” Law, Kurzel, and “Black Rabbit” co-creator Zach Baylin have also collaborated on the upcoming true crime film “The Order.”
The official logline for the series states that it follows “the owner of a New York City hotspot (Law) who allows his turbulent brother (Bateman) back in his life, only to realize he’s opened the door to escalating dangers that threaten to bring down everything he’s built.

If there’s one thing apes are afraid of besides drowning, it’s George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road prequel Furiosa. To avoid conflict at the box office during Memorial Day weekend, 20th Century Studios‘ Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is moving to May 10 to avoid Furiosa’s wrath. The new date pushes Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes up by two weeks, giving the Wes Ball-directed action film time to earn more bananas at the box office before Furiosa inevitably leaves other releases in the dust.
The new date finds Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes competing with Focus Features’ Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black, Sony’s horror comedy Horrorscope, and an untitled release from Angel Pictures. It’s also worth mentioning that Mark Lindal’s The Garfield Movie, starring Chris Pratt as the voice of the Monday-hating, lasagna-eating orange Persian tabby...

This article contains spoilers for Our Flag Means Death season 1.
The sitcom Our Flag Means Death has behaved in a very piratey way, quite frankly. When it burst onto the scene last year, it unexpectedly plundered fans’ hearts, leaving their new favorite ship – between Rhys Darby as Stede Bonnet and Taika Waititi as Blackbeard – wrecked, and left us stranded on a cliffhanger of a finale desperate for a second series.
Thankfully, the treasure that is season two of Our Flag Means Death is released on Max on Oct. 5, and it’s as adorable as ever, with a whole crew of new characters to fall in love with:
Let’s meet the new characters, and discover which returning cast members are back:

After nearly a year and a half of waiting, Max’s pirate rom-com “Our Flag Means Death” will return on Oct. 5.
The first teaser for this new installment picks up right where Season 1 left off. Though the newly-in-love Stede (Rhys Darby) and Blackbeard (Taika Waititi) planned to run away together, a hostile encounter kept Stede away from the man he loves. Stede’s holdup caused Blackbeard to believe he had been abandoned.
The teaser starts with Stede tossing a bottled message into the ocean as his voiceover reads, “Dear Ed, I love everything about you. I love being near you, breathing the same air.”
As Stede waxes poetic about his new love, Blackbeard angrily growls “F–k you, Stede Bonnet.” The rest of the teaser bounces between Stede reading his love letter and defending Blackbeard and his heartbroken lover generally causing havoc in any way he can.
Watch the full teaser in the video above.

“The Umbrella Academy” writer Molly Nussbaum said that the streaming financial structure “doesn’t make any sense” while picketing outside Paramount on Wednesday, telling TheWrap that even after executive producing a streaming series, she was forced back into driving for Lyft.
“The money that you make on a job has to now last you six, 10, 12, 14 months — and when you don’t have residuals coming to help you get through that… I mean, I was an executive producer in April on a hit show for a streaming platform, and I was driving for Lyft in December. That doesn’t make any sense. It’s not good,” Nussbaum, who was acting as a WGA strike captain, told TheWrap.
The WGA member, who was most recently working on the “Daredevil” reboot for Disney and was previously executive producing on the Peacock series “One of Us Is Lying,” added, “I believe that what we’re asking for is fair.

Peacock is following in the footsteps of its fellow streaming services by announcing a price hike.
The NBCUniversal-owned service will increase the monthly cost of its two subscription plans, subscribers have been told.
The Premium plan (which includes ads) will rise from $4.99 to $5.99. while the Premium Plus plan is getting a $2 per month increase to $11.99 per month.
Peacock, which has been in business since 2020, had not increased its price... until now.
The service did have a free-to-watch option with ads that featured much fewer content offerings than the other two plans.
The free tier was shut off for new users in January as Peacock focused on paid plans.
The streaming service has changed considerably since its 2020 bow, with more content than ever.
The network recently pulled shows like Chicago Fire and Law & Order: Svu from Hulu to become the next-day home after new episodes have aired linearly on NBC.

As TV academy voters fill out their 2023 Emmy Awards nominations ballots, they will have to consider 163 shows for Best Drama Series. This is only down by eight compared to last year. After six years of not having to limit their choices in any categories, members can now not let their selections exceed the number of eventual nominations for a given award, which will be eight in this case.
2020 and 2022 champ “Succession” is in the hunt for its third win in this category and will potentially only have to fend off two of its seven rivals from last year. “Better Call Saul” and “Yellowjackets” returned in time to meet the eligibility window of June 1, 2022 to May 31, 2023, while “Euphoria,” “Severance,” “Squid Game,” and “Stranger Things” did not. The last remaining 2022 contender, “Ozark,” officially finished its four-season run last April. Also back in the running are former winners “The Handmaid’s Tale” (2017) and “The Crown” (2021).

Chelsea, hosted by Chelsea Handler, and Patriot Act with Hasan Minhaj opened the door for late-night shows on Netflix, followed by a second wave of streaming originals such as Apple TV+’s The Problem with Jon Stewart and Peacock’s The Amber Ruffin Show.
The latter two shows did not exist the last time there was a negotiation between the WGA and the AMPTP.
But in 2020, the writers guild did attempt to help scribes working for streaming comedy-variety shows by lobbying for WGA minimums to apply.
At the time, the WGA’s negotiating committee said, that “comedy-variety is perhaps the oldest television genre and it’s still going strong with more new shows being produced now than in any time in recent memory. And for the past few years this genre has been quite popular on subscriber streaming platforms.

What do we mean when we talk about Young Adult fiction? Utter the term YA, and you will most likely picture something resembling Lockwood & Co. Netflix’s newest No 1 series has all the hallmarks of a YA smash. A mixed-gender group of teenage protagonists. A healthy dollop of the supernatural. A shelf-load of lore. Adapted from novels by Jonathan Stroud and created by Attack the Block’s Joe Cornish, the series follows a trio of juvenile ghost-hunters, played by Ruby Stokes, Cameron Chapman and Ali Hadji-Heshmati. It’s a CGI-laden fantasy melodrama, big on quips, and even bigger on action. And yet, Lockwood & Co also follows another of Netflix’s time-tested YA rules: it’s not actually very good.
Look back through the past five years of original programming, and you’ll see that the YA market is a well that Netflix has returned to many times. But the results have been mixed,...

The world of "Planet of the Apes" continues to grow, and the latest film has just cast Dichen Lachman in an undisclosed role, per The Hollywood Reporter. These days Lachman is most recognizable for her turn as the mysterious corporate counselor Ms. Casey on the excellent Apple TV+ series "Severance," but she's been a stand-out in sci-fi projects in particular for years now, with memorable turns in "The 100," "Dollhouse," "Altered Carbon," and more. She also appeared in last year's blockbuster "Jurassic World Dominion."
While Lachman's part in the story is still under wraps, THR's report also includes some plot details for "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes," and the story frankly sounds pretty wild. The follow-up to 2017's "War For The Planet of the Apes" will take place years after the third film in the new franchise and bring viewers to a version of the world that sounds...

Fans of Vampire Academy and One of Us Is Lying were left reeling last month when Peacock canceled the two YA dramas.
While details were scarce about their performances on the streaming service, we now have some insight into the cancellations.
Susan Rovner, who oversees entertainment content at NBCUniversal TV and streaming, opened up about the controversial decisions during an appearance on The Hollywood Reporter's TV's Top 5 podcast.
"Both One of Us Is Lying and Vampire Academy I hold up as excellent, quality shows," Rovner shared.
"I think [Vampire Academy co-creator] Julie Plec is really, truly one of the best showrunners, and she did a phenomenal, phenomenal job on that show."
"I'm really, really proud of it."
Rovner said it might have been "too soon" for Peacock to focus on YA content.
"I think what we realized is we have to get the parents [watching Peacock] before we get the teens," she said.

Two weeks after Peacock canceled One of Us Is Lying after its second season and fellow YA series Vampire Academy after its first, Susan Rovner has some explaining to do. Rovner, the chair of entertainment content at NBCUniversal TV and streaming, sounded off on those cancelations and Peacock’s young-adult challenges in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter’s TV’s Top 5 podcast. “Both One of Us Is Lying and Vampire Academy I hold up as excellent, quality shows,” Rovner said on the podcast. “I think [Vampire Academy co-creator] Julie Plec is really, truly one of the best showrunners, and she did a phenomenal, phenomenal job on that show. I’m really, really proud of it.” But Rovner speculated it was “too soon” for Peacock to release those two shows. “I think what we realized is we have to get the parents [watching Peacock] before we get the teens,” she said.
