The conclusion of the NFL season led to an expected decline in TV usage, especially in broadcast, for the month of February. Despite the typical seasonal dip in viewing, New Amsterdam and The Last Of Us helped streaming stay strong.
According to Nielsen’s monthly report The Gauge, average TV viewership was down 5.1% overall, led by a 9.2% decrease in broadcast viewing. Sports broadcast viewing bore the brunt of that, taking a 65% hit month-over-month.
Cable was down 5.7%, while streaming weathered the storm with only a 1% decline. The overall decline from January to February is fairly typical, and it stayed in line with last year’s 5.7% decline observed over the same time period.
While streaming usage was down overall, it actually increased its share of total TV usage, making up 34.3% of all viewing for the month. That’s a record-high for the digital format, which Nielsen says was driven by the popularity...

An eight-hour drama inspired by Carolyn Arnold’s “Madison Knight” detective novels is being developed by Muse Entertainment and Pop Fiction Entertainment.
Hélène Joy will star as Madison Knight, a daring detective who works to investigate criminals throughout the series. Orion Lee (“First Cow”) will portray Knight’s work partner, Detective Steven Hung. The action-packed crime drama is set on both the Pacific coastline of Sydney, Australia and the wilderness of British Columbia, Canada.
“As I read the books, I was immediately taken with Madison as a leading female character. She is unapologetic, unpredictable and deeply flawed. An extremely reluctant heroine if you will. What I love most is her sardonic nature and deeply sarcastic sense of humor. She doesn’t suffer fools and has little time for small talk,” said Joy, on her new role of Knight, in a statement.
Australian writer Justin Monjo and Canadian writer Lynn Coady are developing the series.

Chicago – After a successful festival run, the film “Breaking Fast” – a heartwarming gay romantic comedy – was released through Video-On-Demand on January 22nd, 2021. One of the key screenings previously was at Reeling, the international Chicago LGBTQ+ film fest, and during that time an actor from Chicago with a vital role, Rula Gardenier, talked about “Breaking Fast” and her move to Los Angeles.
“Breaking Fast” features Haaz Sleiman (”The Visitor”) as Mo, a gay Muslim doctor living in West Hollywood, and whose Mother (Gardenier) and family celebrates his orientation. He tries to resist the charm of Kal (Michael Cassidy), a charismatic non-Muslim he meets at a party and who surprises him by offering to break fast with him during the holy month of Ramadan. Through these two characters, director Mike Mosallam (who directed the 2015 short film on which the feature is based) delves into Muslim-American culture with a tenderness and wit that comes from the heart.

New York City experienced the first wide-scale coronavirus outbreak in the U.S. earlier this year. As it has worked to safely reopen, New York state has implemented various measures to ensure film and television productions could recommence.
In October, the state implemented a three-tier rating system that assigns red, orange or yellow colors to locations based on infection rates. With red being based on highest rates and yellow the lowest, different restrictions are placed on productions based on what color area the studio is located in.
Though production has opened back up, increased costs of safely filming during the pandemic have led to small projects making up a large portion of ongoing productions. Bigger projects. including “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.” are in pre-production until the beginning of next year.

The Media Access Awards, in partnership with nonprofit disability services organization Easterseals, has announced the honorees of the awards show, which include critically-acclaimed documentary “Crip Camp,” Netflix’s “Away” and Ramy Youssef.
The award show, which will be presented virtually Nov. 19 and hosted by model and actor Nyle Dimarco, aims to pay tribute to creatives, series and films that have holistically portrayed individuals with disabilities and advanced representation for the disability community both on and off-screen.
“One out of four American adults has a disability, but they rarely see their lives reflected in the stories told on film and television. The Media Access Awards is an ongoing campaign to change that reality. And it will change. People with disabilities will be seen and heard,” Deborah Calla and Allen Rucker, co-CEOs of Media Access Awards, said in a statement.
The evening will see special appearances from Selma Blair, Whoopi Goldberg, Jimmy Kimmel,...

When The 100 came to a close, it left many fans feeling shocked and dissatisfied with the show's ending.
Not only did the fan-favorite romance between Bellamy and Clarke never come to fruition, but Clarke shot and killed Bellamy long before the series finale aired.
For those who enjoyed the relationship between Bellarke and were disappointed about how it all went down, New Amsterdam's Sharpin might help fill the void.
In addition to Max and Helen's dynamic, paralleling Bellamy and Clarke's, Aaron Ginsburg, who previously wrote on The 100, is a producer of the show. It's the best of both worlds.
The plot and setting of these TV series may be drastically different, but, surprisingly, the core is the same.
NBC's medical procedural took two characters that didn't start out on the best of terms and made them each other's person.

Securing Endeavor Content to represent a second season of a cross-cultural fantasy rom-com four years after the show’s debut was good news for “Dramaworld” and its producer, Korean-American company Third Culture Content.
So, too, was the attachment of major talent, including Daniel Dae Kim, Henry Lau, and feted Korean actor Ha Ji-won.
But, arguably, the greater triumph was managing to produce the show this spring. It was a time when Covid-19 was expanding from epidemic to pandemic, and most other film and TV series were going on hiatuses of unknown duration.
“Dramaworld” originally aired on Rakuten-owned streamer Viki but Endeavor Content is now shopping both seasons around. The show is a bilingual drama about an American girl who, through a supernatural twist of fate, is transported into the middle of one of the Korean drama shows she is obsessed with. With the disease raging around it, “Dramaworld” shot...

Saddle up, cord-cutters: Peacock has selected Nov. 22 as its Season 3 premiere date for Paramount Network hit “Yellowstone.”
The third season, which already ran on cable channel Paramount Network, is joining Seasons 1 and 2 on Peacock, which will soon be the only streaming service with the entire “Yellowstone” series (to date).
Peacock, which will add “The Office” to its portfolio in January, is home to the libraries of “Parks and Recreation,” “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Kings of Queens,” “Two and A Half Men,” “Downton Abbey,” “Ray Donovan” and “New Amsterdam,” among other comedies and dramas.
“Yellowstone” stars Kevin Costner as John Dutton, who controls the largest, contiguous ranch in the United States. Amid shifting alliances, unsolved murders, open wounds, and hard-earned respect; the ranch is in constant conflict with those it borders; an expanding town, an Indian reservation, and vicious business rivalries, the show’s logline reads.
The series was co-created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linson,...

As TV shows begin to return to air this fall, showrunners have had to decide whether or not to incorporate the coronavirus pandemic into their future storylines. While some have opted for an escapist path, others have opted to tackle the virus head-on. From video chat-inspired comedies about quarantine to medical dramas facing the biggest medical story in generation, here’s how shows are incorporating Covid-19 into upcoming episodes.
Several series directly addressing the coronavirus pandemic have cropped up in recent months, beginning with Freeform’s “Love in the Time of Corona” back in August. Filmed entirely in quarantine using remote technology and actors in their homes performing opposite their real-life loved ones, the series was one of the first scripted programs to document the early days of lockdown.
Unlike “Love in the Time of Corona,” NBC’s “Connecting…” used a Zoom-inspired format, featuring its characters in small on-screen boxes talking directly to camera.
