- In the Season Two premiere, Midge takes the stage for a foreign audience, while Abe and Rose find themselves in a new world. Susie experiences the repercussions of having a bad reputation in the business, as Joel regroups after quitting his job.
- Abe and Midge attempt to bring Rose back into their lives. Midge performs overseas with a translator, recounting what happened after Joel saw her act in the Season One finale. Joel searches for an apartment and a new employment, after quitting his office job. Some bad blood comes back to haunt Susie, but she uses her powers of persuasion to avert a crisis.—Allison Kauffmann
- Midge is still working at B. Altman, now banished to the basement as a phone operator (due to the Penny Pan incident). She is thriving in her new position.
Susie is booking new gigs for Midge and gives a newspaper interview. Midge's routine is gaining momentum, and Susie is attempting to make her into a household name.
Abe realizes (after missing many...many signs) that Rose has moved to Paris because she doesn't feel she has her own life in New York. Abe and Midge go to Paris to bring Rose back home. Abe tries to be "sweet" but fails. Rose is reluctant to leave her new lifestyle.
After quitting his job, Joel and his friend Archie day-drink and commiserate. Joel is currently living with his parents, but searches for an apartment.
Susie gets kidnapped by Harry Drake's hired thugs, who intended to rough her up; however, she ends up befriending the goons and their families, eating dinner and reminiscing about her upbringing in the Rockaways. They warn her that other thugs may not be as nice in the future, and may not be afraid to rough up a woman.
While Midge visits a French nightclub, she gets pulled on stage for trying to zip the performer's dress up. She performs a stand-up routine and has an American audience member translate jokes for her. During her act, Midge recounts how her performance from the Season 1 finale was the final nail in the coffin for her marriage. After that performance, Joel gave her his wedding ring and walked away.
After seeing couples enjoying a romantic night on the Seine river, Midge calls Joel to work things out and confesses she's still in love with him. He explains that he can't be with someone doing stand-up routines about him or his failures, and that for them to be together she'd have to give comedy up. They both don't want her to quit, so they realize they're at an impasse.
