During the Spanish Civil War flashback sequences, Archer is flying Soviet-built Polikarpov I-15 biplane fighters while his nemesis Ziegler flies the faster and more maneuverable German Messerschmitt ME-109.
Rojo Tres, aka Red Three, was the call sign used by Biggs Darklighter in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977).
Archer extracts some ammunition from a box labeled "50 cartridges, caliber .45, ball M1911". M1911 is the US Department of Defense (formerly the Department of War) designation for the .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol which was the standard US military sidearm from 1911 until 1985, when it was superseded by the 9-mm M9. "Ball" is the term of art for ammunition which is just plain jacketed lead, not armor-piercing, incendiary, tracer, or other special purpose. Of course ammunition hasn't been ball-shaped since the mid-19th century, but the term lives on.
