Jack Quaid's Hughie Campbell is far from the most powerful character in "The Boys," but he has what it takes to be a real superhero. Hughie has maintained his humanity through every disastrous event, and it has always been his greatest strength. The former It employee was once a regular citizen, living his own life, until he was rudely awakened to the horrors caused by the superheroes of the dystopian world. He's awkward, intelligent, and inventive, and despite being surrounded by fame-obsessed, dangerous superheroes, he's pretty badass — and down to earth.
That's a personality trait both actor Jack Quaid and his character Hughie have in common. "The Boys" showrunner Eric Kripke (who also famously created "Supernatural") deeply admires Quaid's good-natured demeanor and desperately wanted to cast him in the series. Kripke first saw Quaid act alongside Glenn Close in the pilot episode of an Amazon show that the...

Black Panther's Ryan Coogler is producing activist biopic Jesus Was My Homeboy, starring Get Out’s Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield.
Fans of the groundbreaking horror of 2017’s Get Out will be delighted to hear that Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield will soon reunite for a big screen effort. While we’re not talking about a sequel, the effort in question, a biopic, will pit the two in an adversarial manner almost akin to their roles in the hit film. Moreover, said biopic will see the involvement of Black Panther director Ryan Coogler!
The duo of Get Out cast members are in talks to co-star in a fact-based drama called Jesus Was My Homeboy, reports Deadline. Kaluuya will star as famously-martyred Black Panther Party member Fred Hampton, and Stanfield will portray his proverbial Judas, William O’Neal, who betrayed Hampton to the FBI. The film is set...

Exclusive: Hiro Murai is in talks at 20th Century Fox to make his feature directorial debut on Man Alive, the thriller that was bought as a spec script by Joe Greenberg and has a rewrite by David Robert Mitchell (It Follows). Man Alive covers the events following the invasion of earth by an alien species, when a man faced with isolation and loneliness in order to survive realizes he might not be alone after all. Matt Reilly is overseeing the thriller for Fox. Noah Hawley and Good Fear are producing.
Murai is a hot emerging director after helming more than a dozen episodes of Donald Glover’s FX series Atlanta, and especially after directing Glover in his Childish Gambino persona in the provocative video for “This Is America.”

Back in 2013, Amazon decided to let viewers decide which series it produced. The streamer put all of its contending pilots online and based the decision of which series to pick on viewer feedback from the pilots. The policy has led to quite a few unpopular and critically lambasted series getting full-season orders. That's going to change as the streamer ditches the feedback model and cancels several of its current series, including Sea Oak and Love You More.

Amazon Studios continues to inch toward scrapping its viewer feedback model.
On Monday, the streaming outlet and retail giant passed on three of its five comedy pilots, with Sea Oak, The Climb and Love You More no longer moving forward. The fate of its two remaining pilots — Greg Daniels' single-camera Upload and multicam Making Friends, from How I Met Your Mother...

Amazon is batting 0-3 with its 2017 comedy pilots: The streamer has passed on its entire half-hour pilot slate, including Glenn Close’s Sea Oak, Bridget Everett’s Love You More and Diarra Kilpatrick’s The Climb.
As noted by Deadline, which first reported the news of the trio’s demise, the quasi-canecllations come just weeks after the male execs who greenlit them, Amazon Studios boss Roy Price and his No. 2, head of comedy and drama development Joe Lewis, left their posts in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

There is no renewal decision yet on comedy series One Mississippi, and Amazon has yet to weigh in on the future of I Love Dick. The decision to…...

Each year, Amazon releases a handful of their pilot episodes for Prime members to stream. This is a unique twist on determining the worth of new series -- viewer feedback factors prominently into Amazon's pickup decisions. Recent Amazon hits such as Transparent, Mozart in the Jungle, and recently The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel have all weathered Amazon pilot season to become full fledged series.
Yet while this trend is potentially on its way out the door, we were still offered a fresh batch of pilot episodes to help get us through fall of 2017: The Climb, Love You More, and Sea Oak. But which of these three (if any) have the most potential for receiving a full series pickup?...

Amazon has announced the three series that will comprise its fall Pilot Season -- whereby the streaming giant shares debut episodes of prospective series and then makes subsequent orders based on fan responses.
All three half-hour pilots -- The Climb, Love You More, and Sea Oak -- will be available for Prime subscribers globally on Nov. 10.
Sea Oak is a genre-bending comedy based on a short story by renowned author George Saunders, and starring Emmy-winner Glenn Close. It follows a working-class woman who dies tragically in a home invasion, and then comes back from the dead full of rage, determined to get the life she never had. Love You More comes care of showrunner Michael Patrick King -- of Sex And The City fame. It’s about a counselor for young adults with Down syndrome -- played by Bridget Everett -- whose need to stand up for people frequently manifests into fantasy rock music numbers.
