When showing the entire area, just after Poovey demands to know who keeps leaving the seat down, the sign "Hollywoodland" can be seen on the hill in the background. The sign would lose the last four letters in 1949.
When Dutch (Barry) is a cyborg and talking to bikers in the bar, he says, "I need your clothes, your boots, and your motorcycle." The same line is spoken by Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) when he's in a biker bar.
When Dutch leaves the bar on the stolen motorcycle, he drives through an advertising billboard. This is similar to a scene from Pee-wee's Big Adventure (1985).
When Barry walks into a bar and asks for their clothes and motorcycles, the man talking to him is inspired by Marlon Brando in The Wild One (1953). Their leather jackets also have a similar print on the back as the jackets in 'The Wild One'.
The observatory shown is Griffith Observatory; the same one is seen in Rebel Without a Cause (1955).
