Iconic directors named David haven’t been having the best luck with the Netflix streaming service lately. David Lynch recently revealed that Snootworld, an animated movie he hopes to make, had been rejected by Netflix, and now David Cronenberg has said that his new film The Shrouds – which just made its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival (you can read some of the first reactions Here) – was originally intended to be a Netflix TV series, but the streamer dropped it after paying him to write the pilot episode.
During a press conference at Cannes, Cronenberg said (according to The Hollywood Reporter) that he “envisioned the story working well as a series. He flew to Los Angeles to speak with two Netflix execs who financed the writing of a first episode – which they loved. But after the second, they did not want to go any further.” Cronenberg went on to say,...

Vincent Cassel and David Cronenberg are getting the band back together for The Shrouds, a disturbing meditation about grief, making peace with death, and watching your loved ones decompose in real time. Yeah, you heard me. The Shrouds teaser trailer offers a brief glimpse at Cronenberg’s next mind-bending thriller and the filmmaker’s first project with Cassel since teaming up for Eastern Promises and A Dangerous Method. According to Cronenberg, The Shrouds is a personal project for him, with parts of the story being autobiographical.
In The Shrouds, Vincent Cassell takes on the role of Karsh, “an innovative businessman and grieving widower, who builds a novel device to connect with the dead inside a burial shroud. This burial tool installed at his own state-of-the-art though controversial cemetery allows him and his clients to watch their specific departed loved one decompose in real time. “Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent” may be the biggest original TV series premiere Canada has ever had. That means, when that famous “dun-dun” opens the series on Feb. 22 via Citytv, the pressure is on.
It’s notoriously hard to get a show greenlit in Canada. Funding challenges, market size and competition from U.S. acquisitions mean few, if any, Canadian series debut on the Big 3 commercial networks each season. Even public broadcaster CBC, which boasts the highest number of originals on a major network, still relies on acquisitions to fill out its primetime programming grid.
Figuring out how to make noise with a new series in a crowded landscape isn’t a uniquely Canadian challenge, but there are more hurdles here. That’s why from the beginning, a Canadian adaptation of “Criminal Intent” felt like a win — at least from a viewership and marketing standpoint. It’s a recognizable...

HBO Max has opted not to move forward with a Degrassi revival series, Deadline has confirmed.
The streaming service had announced a series order for a new iteration of the popular Degrassi franchise in January with an expected release date in 2023. Filming was expected to take in place in Toronto this past summer.
A reprise of the original teen drama, Degrassi was initially described as a character-driven series about the high school experience and the thrilling, often painful journey of self-discovery. Set in Toronto, the new series was to explore a group of teenagers and school faculty living in the shadow of events that both bind them together and tear them apart.
The series from WildBrain was to be helmed by showrunners/executive producers Lara Azzopardi (Backstage, The Bold Type, Mary Kills People) and Julia Cohen.

HBO Max no longer has “whatever it takes” to revive a brand new version of WildBrain Studio’s award-winning youth franchise, Degrassi, as the reboot has reportedly been canceled, according to the Wall Street Journal. At the beginning of 2022, an hour-long 10-episode series was ordered by the streaming service, with production set to begin in Toronto this past summer. Lara Azzopardi and Julia Cohen were set as showrunners of the would-be reboot. “What excites us maybe the most about reviving this beloved franchise is turning it into a truly serialized one-hour drama,” Lara Azzopardi and Julia Cohenand said in a previous statement. “We’re honored to be given the opportunity to lead this evolution and bring this iconic series back into people’s homes.” This new Degrassi was previously described as “a reprise of the original teen drama” and “a character-driven series about the high school experience and the ...

The reboot of Degrassi will not be moving forward at HBO Max.
A new report from Wall Street Journal on Thursday revealed that the highly anticipated reboot had been shelved.
Warner Bros. Discovery has been in cost-cutting mode since the merger earlier this year.
Many projects have been canceled entirely before broadcast, including the Batgirl movie.
The company has been restructuring in its attempts to save money, and youth programming has largely been shut out.
While it sounds like the decision to end Degrassi was made a while ago, this is the first we've heard of it.
The series was ordered back in January.
Lara Azzopardi and Julia Cohen are set as showrunners and executive producers of the latest offshoot.
Production was slated for the summer.
"Series after series, the Degrassi franchise continues to make an indelible impact on young viewers looking for trustworthy and authentic storytelling,” said HBO Max earlier this year.

It’s always difficult to bid farewell to a beloved television ensemble, but especially so for the cast of The CW’s The 100. Many viewers have literally grown up alongside these characters, who started as juvenile delinquents and ended as adults who had lived several lifetimes. Even for older viewers, the characters and the actors behind them have become much beloved.
In this case, we can happily say until we meet again, as many cast members have already lined up new projects. Some are jumping immediately into new TV series, while others are exploring film franchises. At least one actor who got the chance to try her hand at directing on The 100 is honing that craft in future projects.
Read on for the next steps for all of your favorites.

Happy September, dear readers! The best time of the year is upon us, where the weather is getting cooler, kids are back in school, and we have a brand new batch of movies to get excited about coming to both the big and small screens throughout the next few months.
In September, we’ve got It Chapter Two, Satanic Panic, Rob Zombie’s 3 From Hell, Bliss, Villains (one of my absolutely favorite films of 2019 thus far), Haunt, Freaks, Artik, Ad Astra, and so many more films on the docket, which should get you primed for Halloween season.
Then, October kicks off with the already polarizing Joker, followed up by the animated Addams Family movie, Along Came the Devil 2, Mary, Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite (my most anticipated movie of the fall season), Robert Egger’s The Lighthouse, Trick from Patrick Lussier, Zombieland 2, and Travis Stevens’ The Girl on the...

After the amazing success of the first installment of Warner Bros. adaptation of Stephen King’s epic “It”, we could hardly contain our excitement to see what they would have in store for us with the sequel.
The highly anticipated teaser trailer for “It Chapter Two” has finally been revealed and from the look of things, it’s definitely what we had all be hoping for and more! We also got to see some first look images as well!
Evil resurfaces in Derry as director Andy Muschietti reunites the Losers Club—young and adult—in a return to where it all began with “It Chapter Two.”
The film is Muschietti’s follow-up to 2017’s critically acclaimed and massive worldwide box office hit “It,” which grossed over $700 million globally. Both redefining and transcending the genre, “It” became part of the cultural zeitgeist as well as the highest-grossing horror film of all time.

With Avengers: Endgame already proving to be the biggest movie of the year and an absolute powerhouse at the box office, I must say there’s a somewhat similar electricity surrounding It: Chapter Two. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t see the Stephen King adaptation hitting the $3 billion mark, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it raked in $1 billion. Really, it’s not often that the horror genre births something that achieves the financial heights of 2017’s It flick, and sequels can often surpass their predecessors in that sense.
One reason that I made the comparison was that the teaser trailer which dropped this morning really got across this sense of finality. The stuff with Jessica Chastain was wonderfully creepy, sure, but the other snippets and accompanying music let us know that the sh!t’s about to hit the fan in a major way. Perhaps you...
