Lewis Capaldi brought Heavenly and humor to NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert as the Scottish singer-songwriter showcased tracks from his upcoming new LP Broken by Desire to Be Heavenly Sent.
Capaldi — accompanied by a crammed full band plus horn section at the Tiny Desk — joked before his set, “I just wanted to take a moment before we start to say — lower your expectations.” He opened his four-song set with “Before You Go,” a bonus track from his acclaimed 2019 LP Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent.
“Thank fuck for that, that went okay!

Jimmy McGovern’s British prison drama “Time” is returning for a second season featuring a new cast.
“The Last of Us” star Bella Ramsey, “Doctor Who’s” Jodie Whittaker and “The Silent Twins” star Tamara Lawrance are all joining the show.
The original show featured Sean Bean and Stephen Graham as a prisoner and prison officer respectively. It averaged 11.6 million viewers across a three-part run and won a 2022 BAFTA Television award for best mini-series.
The new season, which is comprised of three parts, will be set in a women’s prison. Siobhan Finneran (“Happy Valley”), who also featured in Season 1, reprises her role as prison chaplain Marie-Louise.
Ramsey plays Kelsey, who arrives at Carlingford Prison on the same day as Orla (Whittaker) and Abi (Lawrance). The trio must quickly adapt to the environs of their new world, which they will soon discover holds ever-present danger as well as an unexpected sense of community.

Netflix is on the cusp of taking down a wide selection of movies and TV series.
The streaming service removes numerous titles each month, but without fanfare; unless you happen to select the thing that’s about to leave, you will have no idea there’s a limited amount of time left to watch.
Fortunately, we’ve compiled a list of every movie and TV show being removed from Netflix in April 2023.
We’ve aggregated all the impending removals from Netflix in the UK and US, which we’ve signalled below. If there isn’t a territory listed next to the title, then it will be leaving both.

Explicitly vulnerable and unapologetically authentic, ‘Broken’ is Avaion’s latest emotive chapter out now on Sony Music.
In alignment with his mantra ‘music for dancing or dreaming depending on how you’re feeling,’ Avaion’s new single ‘Broken’ is a clean-cut juxtaposition of the internal onslaught in the aftermath of heartbreak, paired with an irresistible danceability and weightless sensation of unburdening emotion through sonic means.
Adorned with dainty acoustic guitar picks, Avaion carves a tender soundscape lead by his self-sung somber lyrics over ambient electronic tones and a steady laid-back groove. Avaion’s heart-on-sleeve line ‘cause I’m the one who always cried, I’m the one who’s broken now’ could tempt the listener into a sense of self-pity. Yet, instinctively, the German producer evokes a sudden surge of rapture. Relieving the pent-up frustration, angst, and pain of heartache for just a fleeting moment amidst the deep pulsating bass line,...

Book adaptations became a regular part of the Hollywood narrative in the 2000s, and the craze doesn’t appear to be fading anytime soon. ABC has even jumped on board with their latest television drama, Will Trent, based on a book series by Karin Slaughter. But adaptations always come with loyal fanbases who just want to see their favorite books translated well onscreen. And sometimes, they are very unhappy with the finished product.
Ramón Rodríguez as Will Trent | ABC/Danny Delgado ABC adapted the ‘Will Trent’ book series into a television show
Will Trent, the ABC show, premiered in January 2023 and revolves around Will Trent, played by Ramón Rodríguez. Will is a Georgia Bureau of Investigation agent with the highest clearance rate, but he also has a troubled past.
The network adapted Karin Slaughter’s Will Trent book series for television, and they have a lot of source material to work with.

Director David Gordon Green, who recently made a trilogy of Halloween sequels, is now working on a sequel to the 1973 classic The Exorcist (watch it Here) – with the hope being that this movie will be the first in a trilogy of Exorcist sequels. Green is planning to direct all three of them. We know that original Exorcist star Ellen Burstyn is reprising the role of Chris MacNeil in the film. We know that Leslie Odom Jr. (Hamilton) is playing a character who tracks down Chris MacNeil after his child becomes possessed. But we don’t know who their co-stars Lidya Jewett (Nightbooks), Ann Dowd (The Handmaid’s Tale), and newcomer Olivia Marcum are playing. So the latest bit of The Exorcist casting news comes with a bit of a surprise: it comes with minor character details! Deadline reports that Raphael Sbarge is in the cast, and he’s playing a pastor.

She will star in the continuation of the original horror pic alongside previously announced Academy-Award nominee Leslie Odom Jr., Ann Dowd, Lidya Jewett and Ellen Burstyn, who is reprising her role as Chris MacNeil, in the fresh new take of the beloved property – a continuation of the quintessential possession horror film. The studios behind the latest redo scooped up the franchise rights for 400M.
The pic, the first in a new trilogy, is currently in production for an Oct. 13 release this year on the big screen. David Gordon Green of the recent Blumhouse/Miramax Halloween trilogy directs. Scott Teems, Danny McBride and Green teamed up for the story being penned by Peter Sattler (Broken Diamonds) and Green.
Jason Blum will produce on behalf of Blumhouse.

When you look at his body of work, it’s hard to believe Rory Kinnear is only 44: the man’s covered a hell of a lot of ground. He’s earned his place as a household name with roles like Tanner – M’s efficient Chief of Staff in several Bond films including Skyfall – and Detective Nock in Alan Turing biopic The Imitation Game, but while many actors would be rightly chuffed to bag these roles, they’re merely the tip of Kinnear’s acting iceberg.
Few actors, for instance, can claim to be responsible for a scene that has been burned onto our retinas, never to be forgotten, no matter how hard we try. For Rory Kinnear, that scene is in Black Mirror episode ‘The National Anthem’, the very first instalment of this disturbing dystopian anthology series, where he plays a Prime Minister forced into doing the dirty...

“Dancing with the Stars” started its “Stories Week” two-night event with “Most Memorable Year,” and it was even more memorable than we expected going in. So how did the celebrities all pick themselves up and carry on with night two? Follow along with our “Dancing with the Stars” “Prom Night” live blog below.
For “Most Memorable Year,” we were anticipating an elimination at the end of the night, but what we got instead was a surprising withdrawal. Actress Selma Blair, who has multiple sclerosis, decided to leave the competition on the advice of her doctors, who noticed worrying signs of injury from her MRIs. It was a tearful end to an evening that already included many tears from stars celebrating their parents, children, spouses, and other life milestones.

At the center of Freddie Gibbs’ oul old eparately is “Rabbit Vision,” which finds him regretting moments in his life. “Me and Jeezy haven’t spoken in years, but I got love for him/Coulda talked it out, but I spoke out, I let it get to me,” he raps, offering an olive branch to the man who signed him in 2011 before the two had a very public falling-out. I am utterly obsessed with one little detail in "House of the Dragon."
The show's first episode, "The Heirs of the Dragon," features a plethora of scenes centered on the Small Council in King's Landing. Viewers of "Game of Thrones" are very familiar with the Small Council, which is essentially Westeros' equivalent to a Cabinet meeting. The king sits around with his appointed group of leaders of various branches of the kingdom, and they discuss and debate the various matters concerning the realm, from taxes to celebrations.
The series premiere of "House of the Dragon" institutes something we never saw on the show's predecessor. When the various members of the Small Council arrive at the meeting, they grab what looks to be a large marble off of a little platform in the center of the table and then place it in the middle of a circular dish located at their seat.

Ahead of the release of Sleater-Kinney’s The Center Won’t Hold this Friday, Corin Tucker and Carrie Brownstein have provided one last preview from their new LP: The now-duo filmed an acoustic, low-key version of the song “Broken” – with Tucker on vocals and Brownstein on piano – and uploaded the performance to YouTube on Wednesday.
“We wanted to share this live and stripped down version of our song ‘Broken,'” the band wrote of the song on YouTube. “It’s a song about trying to stay strong in the face of trespass and trauma.

Sleater-Kinney deliver the goods almost immediately on their new LP, on a title track that begins with industrial clangs, then explodes into rock fury rivaling anything in their catalog, a barrage of Nevermind-grade guitar blasts pacing Corin Tucker’s cathartic, paint-peeling howls. She paraphrases the famous “Things fall apart, the center cannot hold” line from Yeats’ “The Second Coming.” Tucker might be describing a psyche, a relationship, or planetary climate change: Pick your nearly lost cause.

Kim Petras veers into moody trap-pop with her new song “All I Do Is Cry.” The singer-songwriter vents about heartbreak throughout the track, which — in contrast to her other, more club-friendly singles — recalls the emo-rap vibe of Juice Wrld.
“I need you more than air/I see you everywhere,” Petras sings on the cut over a booming beat and tranquil guitar pattern. “Nobody else compares/I don’t go anywhere.” On the chorus, she admits, “All I do is cry about you/I don’t wanna die without you.” The...

German pop star Kim Petras released her latest disco-infused single, “Sweet Spot,” on Monday, accompanied by a retro lyric video. The four-on-the-floor dance track is club-ready and just in time to be a potential Song of the Summer contender.

On Sunday’s “American Idol,” two of the Top 5 contestants were eliminated: Laci Kaye Booth and Wade Cota. Although they performed at the top of their game, in the end their three rival finalists got more of America’s votes. That leading trio of vote-getters as revealed by Ryan Seacrest are: Alejandro Aranda, Laine Hardy and Madison VanDenburg. (Vote in our ‘American Idol’ winner poll.)
This result meant that Laci and Wade fell just short of making the Top 3. We asked you which of these two talents to be sent home was robbed of a place in the finale next Sunday (May 19). By a margin of 56% to 44% “(as of this writing), “American Idol” viewers favor Wade over Laci.
Wade, a 27-year-old musician from Phoenix, had never been in the bottom 2 before. Conversely, Laci — a 23-year-old college student from Livingston TX — only made it to the semi-final after she inspired Luke Bryan,...

The May 12 episode of “American Idol” showcased the Top 5. Each of the finalists sang three songs: one in honor of Mother’s Day, another chosen by mentor Bobby Bones, and a third from the Elton John back catalog. As with the last three Sunday shows, this episode aired live nationwide. America got to vote for their favorites in real-time, with the results revealed by host Ryan Seacrest at the end of the episode.
The top three vote-getters — Alejandro Aranda, Laine Hardy and Madison VanDenburg — will contend in the final next week. And the bottom two — Laci Kaye Booth and Wade Cota — were bounced from the competition.

Wade Cota has gotten to the top 5 on the ABC revival of “American Idol” based on his nine performances to date beginning with his rendition of “Work Song” by Hozier back on March 31. That cover did well when we asked viewers to pick his best song, earning a solid 16%. However, leading the way with 28% was Wade’s rendition on the Top 6 show of the Shawn James hit “Through the Valley.” And “Idol” fans liked his other song that night too as “With A Little Help From My Friends” by The Beatles merited 17% of the total tally.
At the other end of the scale are some of Wade’s more recent efforts with his Top 8 cover of the Queen classic “We Are the Champions” registering just 2%. Also figuring in the bottom three are his Top 10 performance of “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” from “Toy Story” and his Top 20 duet...

In advance of the final five taking to stage on Sunday’s live “American Idol,” we wanted to know who viewers were backing to win season 17. Alejandro Aranda garnered a whopping 40% support in our poll. Laine Hardy, his closest rival more ways than one, is next with 31%. They lead out power rankings from best to worst and are all but certain to number among the Top 3 revealed by Ryan Seacrest at the end of the show on May 12.
Of the other three contestants, Wade Cota looks the likeliest to round out the roster of finalists. He has 15% of the total tally. The two women still standing — Laci Kaye Booth and Madison Vandenburg — did not break into double digits with 6% and 8% of the vote by “American Idol” fans respectively.

Laci Kaye Booth is almost certain to face elimination on “American Idol” this Sunday according to the results of our poll of viewers. She only made the final five on last Sunday’s episode when Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie decided to use their one judges save of the season to keep her in the competition. But she has earned only a measly 6% in our survey of “American Idol” fans heading into the Top 5 show on May 12.
The other contestant joining her in the bottom two is likely to be Madison VanDenburg who merited a mere 8% in our poll results. All five singers still in the competition will take to the stage on Sunday to perform a trio of tunes. Each will sing a song from the Elton John catalog, another picked out by mentor Bobby Bones and a third in honor of Mother’s Day.

On the May 5 episode of “American Idol,” the Top 6 sang two songs each: one that was inspirational and the other from the summer of 1969 in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Woodstock music festival. Four of the half dozen contestants made it through based on their votes from the public: Alejandro Aranda, Wade Cota, Laine Hardy and Madison VanDenburg. A fifth, Laci Kaye Booth, got the judges save while the other artist in the bottom two, Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon, was eliminated.
We asked for your predictions as to which of these remaining five finalists will go all the way to win season 17. “Idol” fans are divided between two of the artists: Alejandro Aranda has 41% of the viewers vote as of this writing and Laine Hardy is at 30%. While Alejandro is about where he was last week (40%), Laine has added five points to his total. Much of that support comes from fans of Jeremiah.

On May 5, the “American Idol” Top 6 will sing two songs apiece: one will be inspirational (as chosen by Grammy-winning Christian singer Lauren Daigle) while the other will date back to the summer of 1969 in honor of the 5oth anniversary of the Woodstock music festival. Sunday’s “American Idol” episode showcases the Top 6 who will sing two songs each: one that is inspirational and the other from 50 years ago. Compare that to the 22% of the vote racked up by Laine Hardy. The clear frontrunner remains Alejandro Aranda, who has a whopping 39% of the total. The other two contestants — Wade Cota and Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon — are each at 10%.
