If you haven’t heard the news about Fear Effect: Reinvented or Sedna, I urge you to go and complete the original game right now, I can wait, go on, it’s not long. Done? Good. Now you can finally feel the same chills as the rest of us when that haunting, taunting little tune plays.
With Fear Effect finally getting it’s turn on the HD-Remake bandwagon there’s never been a better time to re-familiarize or introduce someone to one of the most underrated Playstation 1 games ever made.
Fear Effect had the shortest, strangest legacy of the PS1-era Survival Horrors. Unlike it’s more successful cousins Resident Evil and Silent Hill it came out only a matter of months before the PlayStation 2 release and you could even be fooled into thinking it’s not a Survival Horror at all for the first stretch of the game, until...

Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency won't be back for a third season, it's been decided...
Fans probably knew that a third season of Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency was far from a sure thing, and sadly BBC America has announced its cancellation.
The sometimes crazy, always fun, undefinable show has often been critically favoured. Its manic dialogue and at times nonsensical-seeming storylines weren't for everyone, but for those who enjoyed a good puzzle, tight writing, and unbelievably lovable characters, hopes were high for a renewal. But it wasn't meant to be.
In the end, ratings for Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency were just too low. Averaging 248,000 viewers each week with a .07 share, the series is down only slightly from its season 1 average of 287,000 weekly viewers and a .09 share of the key demographic. Although these numbers were comparable to fellow BBC America series Orphan Black in its fifth season,...

As fires rage in California and a hurricane tore apart Puerto Rico, one man has made it his mission to ensure people get fed as quickly as humanly possible – José Andrés.
The world-renowned chef (who was famously involved in a lawsuit with President Donald Trump earlier this year) and his organization World Central Kitchen spent ten weeks leading the charge after Hurricane Maria, and they’re jumping into action again with the wild fires in California. In the last few days, Andrés’ has team worked with local organization L.A. Kitchen feed local firefighters and evacuees.

While we’ve been waiting for Star Wars: The Last Jedi to land in cinemas for a while now, there is a bittersweet edge to its arrival, as it’s the final time we’ll ever get to see Carrie Fisher as General/Princess Leia, following her tragic death last December.
The production team faced a difficult challenge in the wake of Fisher’s passing, as they had to decide whether to edit the film to wrap up Leia’s story in some way or to preserve her final performance as it was intended. In the end, director Rian Johnson took the latter path and didn’t make any edits at all to Leia’s scenes in the film.
While talking to The Hollywood Reporter, Johnson made clear that this was the only decision he entertained as any alternative would have just been a “horror.”

It gave us new powers, abundant alien creatures and a triumphant last hurrah for Luke Skywalker, but did Rian Johnson’s Episode VIII live up to the hype?

Fan theorists were certain that Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi would be to The Empire Strikes Back what Jj Abrams’ The Force Awakens was to the original Star Wars, a movie full of Jedi training sessions on remote planets, rebel backs against the wall and darkling, curveball plot twists. In the end that was only part of the story, for this was a movie that gave us, in the words of Luke Skywalker in one of its earliest trailers, “so much more”. New Force powers, abundant alien creatures like nothing we’ve seen before, and a complex, yet satisfying return for the galaxy’s greatest hero.

Eminem‘s daughter Hailie Jade Scott has served as the rapper’s muse throughout much of his career, lighting the inner fire that elevated him from a dishwasher on the outskirts of Detroit to one of the biggest musical forces of a generation. More than just motivation, his daughter has provided lyrical inspiration, and even a guest verse or two over the years. Though relations have occasionally been strained between Eminem and Hailie’s mother, Kim Scott—as evidenced in a number of his songs—his bond with Hailie has never wavered.

Don’t mess with his sister!
Two-year-old Jash had never seen his big sister Ruby, 4, at a wrestling match before her battle against 5-year-old Ryan at Indiana Springs Middle School on Dec. 10 in Indiana. So, when it appeared little Ruby might suffer a defeat, Jash ran onto the mat and lunged at Ryan.
“I could not believe that that happened,” Ruby and Jash’s mother, Crystal Lewis, tells People. “I was a little embarrassed for a second, but the whole room was laughing.”
In the footage, onlookers burst into laughter as Jash began sprinting onto the mat and pounced on Ryan.

The FCC just voted 3-2 along party lines to dismantle the set of protections that go by the shorthand “net neutrality,” and it’s bad news for consumers, media-lovers, and small internet businesses alike.
Completely reversing all of net neutrality is a huge departure from what consumers are used to, and in the long run the consequences could be absolutely disastrous. But there’s a lot of confusion and a lack of clarity about how the demise of net neutrality will happen and hurt individuals.
Although the Commission just voted to kill the rules, the internet won’t immediately be split into tiered bundles today or even this year. If it net neutrality does end up doomed, the reality of “how” is slower, more complicated, and more insidious than that. But the good news is, it still may not be doomed at all. As of this month, Nintendo has sold 10 million Switch consoles to players worldwide, the company announced via a tweet. This achievement is of great importance to Nintendo as it is a reflection of the success of the innovative hybrid console. The Switch, which has only been in the market for almost a year now, is already catching up to the sales of Nintendo’s Wii U, which has sold 13.5 million units to date, after being released for five years now.
So what made the Switch such a success that surprised the gaming community? Well first off, it delivered its promises. Prior to the launch of the Switch, I was a bit skeptical of the hybrid concept. I guess part of my hesitation was my disappointment with Nintendo’s last console the Wii U, that effectively ruined Nintendo’s reputation in terms of innovative hardware during those dark times. Having lifted its water-tight embargo earlier this afternoon, Lucasfilm has officially opened the floodgates to a wave of reviews for The Last Jedi, and they range from good to positively spectacular. Across the board, Rian Johnson has been praised for his deft filmmaking, which has seemingly resulted in the “most intelligent Star Wars movie by several light years.”
It also tackles those burning questions head-on, with many critics declaring that Johnson and his team are about to deliver answers, heart and spectacle to the wanting masses. Because while most reviews stay far clear of spoilers, thank the heavens, critics agree that The Last Jedi will “shock and awe in equal measure.” Is it December 15th yet?

In the age of peak TV, there’s a lot of bad television out there. Like dipping your hand into a bag of liquorice allsorts, every episode of Black Mirror is a different shape, a different texture, a different flavor, but each installment reflects a central anxiety: how might technology trap us rather than set us free? To answer this, Black Mirror cleverly favors subtlety over bombast, almost always preferring to explore this question via small-scale drama as opposed to overblown sci-fi space opera. Even with Netflix money flowing through the kitty, writer and producer Charlie Brooker arrows in on individual people and their particular anxieties rather than getting carried away with techno-melodrama.
By virtue of being an anthology, half the fun is debating your favorite episode. For instance, the Emmy-award-winning “San Junipero” is the critical darling of season 3 but I much prefer “Shut up and Dance” from that series, a savage game of cat and mouse between a wide-eyed teen and a hacking cartel.

In a statement from Steam's blog, the company announced that they are no longer supporting Bitcoin as a method of payment in their store. This is due to the unpredictability of the currency and the high fees that come from using them.
In terms of Bitcoin's high fees, Valve revealed that when they started accepting the currency, the transaction fee that was charged to the customer is only 20 cents. However, that fee rose rapidly and now charges $20 per transaction today. Valve is not happy with the situation the Bitcoin puts its users in and the fact that they cannot control this fee is what eventually led them to decide to shut down the payment method.

They say more money more problems, but that hasn’t been the case for Tiffany Haddish and her love life.
After leaving audiences starstruck with her breakout performance in Girls Trip and recently hosting Saturday Night Live, the comedian is more in demand than ever. Especially when it comes to dating!
“I don’t really have time for dating,” Haddish told People during an exclusive interview for her new memoir The Last Black Unicorn. “I would like to eventually, definitely by summer time I would like to be dating somebody. I want somebody to give me butterflies. I’ll adjust my schedule for butterflies.

Daniel Day-Lewis already has five Oscar nominations for Best Actor under his belt, and he seems destined to land a sixth for his work in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Phantom Thread.” The actor stars as Reynolds Woodcock, a renowned London fashion designer in the 1950s, and the role has become highly publicized since it marks Day-Lewis’ final performance before retiring from the screen. Fortunately, it appears Day-Lewis is going out on a glorious high note.

In his A review of the drama, IndieWire’s Eric Kohn raves, “Anderson has crafted a memorable finale for his ‘There Will Be Blood’ collaborator in British dressmaker Reynolds Woodcock,” noting just how successfully Day-Lewis “rises to the challenge” of digging into his character’s “emotional immaturity.” Kohn is hardly alone in his praise for Day-Lewis.

“Our father would have hated you.”
Shared leadership rarely wins the war, and tonight’s episode of Vikings drives home that theme as the first of many battles finally gets underway. Though the clash between Ivar’s forces and the Christian army led by King Aethelwulf and Bishop Heahmund occupies the majority of the episode, the struggles others face offer no less compelling accounts. In the end though, it’s the fractured Lothbrok clan that continues to drive the narrative in Homeland.
In spite of the fact that their appearances are brief, Bjorn and Floki’s stories nonetheless receive vital attention.

There’s a thrilling scene early on in “Dunkirk” when Fionn Whitehead’s Tommy carries a wounded soldier on a stretcher through a long line of comrades on the beach. What made it work so viscerally is the fact that cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema picked up the 54-pound IMAX 65mm camera on the spur of the moment and feverishly followed the action.
It was part of the “You Are There” ethos of Christopher Nolan’s immersive World War II survival drama about the legendary evacuation of more than 300,000 British and Allied troops under German bombardment. which could only be captured through the IMAX film experience.
“It’s quality and there’s nothing like it,” said van Hoytema. And when it came to “Dunkirk” they upped their game. “We always tried to be as much as possible in some sort of a point of view situation,” van Hoytema said. “To experience...

As many of you know, a remake of The Crow has been in and out of development for years. The movie is actually moving into production now with director Corin Hardy (The Hallow, The Nun) at the helm and Aquaman star Jason Momoa in the lead role.
The remake is said to be more of a closer adaptation to the comic from James O'Barr. We've been told time and time again that it's not going to be a remake of director Alex Proyas' film. It's going to be a film made directly from the source material. But everyone has their own opinion of what that all means.
Well, Alex Proyas is 100% against the new Crow movie and he took to his Facebook page to speak out against it in a heartfelt message explaining why the film shouldn't happen. The reasoning behind his opinion is the legacy of Brandon Lee,...

All cinematic lightsaber battles are not equal. This is a ranking of the Star Wars films based on the Lightsaber battles that they portray.
The Lightsaber is an iconic and unique part of the Star Wars universe much in the same way we associate the Proton Pack with Ghostbusters, or the phaser to Star Trek. The inclusion of this futuristic light sword into Star Wars came from George Lucas’ love of fantasy serials, which frequently featured characters with swords. Much in the same way that medieval Knights represented a regal and noble order of combatants, the Jedi represents an individual devoted towards upholding peace and justice. It was only fitting then that they received a weapon that would represent the dignity of their status and charge. Of course, those good guys need someone to fight, and so the major enemies of the Jedi also tend to have Lightsabers.

Chrissie Fit, who plays thickly accented Flo in the third installment of Pitch Perfect, realized her passion for theater at five-years-old, performing impromptu song-and-dance routines at family gatherings. It wouldn’t be until she got older that she would face discrimination as a young Latina trying to make it in Hollywood. Before landing any roles, an acting coach recommended she change “Fit” to her mother’s maiden name, Gutierrez, to accentuate her Latin roots. But she dropped her coach instead and hasn’t looked back.

Summer 1993 — Catalonia, Spain
So cathartic was Summer 1993 that my personal psyche will be marked by it forever. Why this story, about a six year old girl who quietly and slowly comes to terms with the death of her mother and how the process, invisible to anyone watching, culminates in a sudden crescendo of emotion moved me to tears, is what you must find out on your own.
No one knows the emotions of another person unless communication, self-knowledge and compassion work in favor of knowing. Yes tears and laughter mean a lot but without tears and laughter, there are thousands of feelings not communicated which result in actions whose meaning is unknown. And for children who have no words for their feelings or why they act as they do, adults can only surmise and intuit if they are able.
A child of six has no way of knowing death; children are fearless,...

Whether it’s David Ayer for Suicide Squad or Zack Snyder for any movie except Man of Steel, Warner Brothers has all-too-often altered the finished product significantly in the name of making the film more marketable. It’s not in the name of creative differences or anything constructive, but for the purpose of having the movie be more audience-friendly and popular. And now, they’ve done the same with Justice League.
WB has made the claim that they’re “creator-friendly” when it comes to these pics, but they’ve yet to choose what the director envisions over what critics would complain about. Zack Snyder may have seen Batman V Superman as a well thought-out deconstruction of Batman and Superman as characters, but WB saw it as a movie that was 30 minutes too long and a less-marketable film than what their competitors were offering.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. was launched in 2013 with much fanfare as a new and vital link in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We were told that the events within would impact upon the films (and vice versa), and most fans anticipated at minimum a couple of cameos from some of the Avengers.
What we actually got, though, were several narrative arcs with little to no connection with the McU. In the end, the connections were limited to the character of Agent Coulson, very brief appearances from Samuel L. Jackson, Jamie Alexander and Cobie Smulders, the consequences of the plots of the Captain America movies and the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. locating Loki’s staff in time for the opening of Age of Ultron.
Despite that, the show has been muddling along in its own McU cul-de-sac, having picked up a devoted fanbase that’s seen it recently hit its 100th episode. This is a pretty big milestone,...

If Force Majeure, Swedish director Ruben Östlund’s seismic 2015 feature, darkly satirized today’s work-obsessed culture through the prism of one family man’s existential identity crisis, his new Palme d’Or winner, The Square, weaves an assured, singular and thematically ambitious tapestry of human behavior and coexistence in the modern world. Where the former film used a ski resort’s avalanche as its protagonist’s eponymous patriarchal Litmus test, The Square expands its lens beyond the family unit; drawing upon the smug intellectualism, vapid self-seriousness and occasionally pompous decadence of the contemporary art world and its donor class, to effectively probe the moral hypocrisies, vanity and bourgeoisie sensibilities of urbane liberalism. In doing so, Östlund transforms his film into—among other things—a caustic commentary on a global capitalist society that continues to reward self-interest over social harmony. In skewering the commercialization of art, The Square effectively draws attention to the well-meaning,...

To help convey the “visceral realism” of “Dunkirk,” Christopher Nolan oversaw an intense soundscape covering land, sea, and air timelines for the legendary evacuation of more than 300,000 British and Allied troops under German bombardment. And for “Blade Runner 2049,” Denis Villeneuve spearheaded a musical blurring of sound and score that carried both emotional and atmospheric weight in driving the “more human than human” narrative.
Thus, in each case, sound works both overtly and subliminally to immerse us in war and dystopia, sharing equal importance with the stunning visuals provided by Hoyte van Hoytema and Roger Deakins, respectively. In the end, it makes no difference if we can’t distinguish sound from music, as they merge into a singular experience.
