The film's story comes from director Andrew Fleming's life: he was in a 23-year relationship with a man who had a son from a previous marriage and they all lived together.
Javier Gonzales was the actual Mayor of Santa Fe at the time of filming.
Many of the straight characters are played by openly gay actors, whereas the two leads playing a gay couple are not.
The film was actually shot in two different houses for Erasmus and Paul's home; since they didn't have all the rooms they needed, they edited the footage to look like one home.
From inception to final release, the film took 10 years to make.
