Was Fred Wolf drunk when he wrote this screenplay? The story's concept was good, but the writing was horrible. The written comedy was so stale and stupid, it flopped any potential this film had. A 5th grader could've written a better script - and made it funnier. And I'm sorry... I am a fan of Salma Hayek, but she was utterly annoying in this film. The rest of the all-star comedic cast were great, but clearly their potential was underwhelming from the lousy script. The directing was ok, although certain scenes jumped all over the place, were convoluted, or cut to soon before needed information was given. It's a shame, as this film had potential. It certainly isn't deserving of any 1 or 2's, but is nothing above a 7 either. It's an honest 5/10 from me.

HATED IT

First of all I am a fan of both Alec Baldwin and Selma Hayek.I was expecting something hilarious because I watched them both on 30 Rock and was hoping that this would be something just as funny.
It wasn't.
The movie starts off and goes off the hinges in a very haphazard and convoluted way. The humor is so physical. There are no jokes. I still don't know why or how Frank is broke. You get no backstory or explanation, just two old people frothing and writhing on the ground.
I am super disappointed.

Baldwin and Hayek should sack their agents
cheekysausage26 April 2019
As a screenwriter myself I know how difficult it is to get anything produced let alone a movie. It is all the more mystifying then that something as awful as this ever saw the light of day. What is even more of a mystery is how two actors of Alec Baldwin and Salma Hayek's stature were persuaded to sign up for it in the first place. I can only guess at their motives but I suspect they were doing it as a favour to the director or one of the producers. If not, both should sack their agents immediately.
The leads do their best to navigate their way through what is a painfully unfunny script but, ultimately, this will probably go down as the low point of their careers. It's a real shame as Baldwin in particular has turned in some great performances over the years - his cameo in Glengarry Glen Ross being one of my personal favourites. He and Hayek will no doubt bounce back from this but the director and co-writer, Fred Wolf - a former stand-up, unbelievably - may struggle to put this stinker behind him.

Worst movie of the year already

I never write reviews, however I couldn't resist reviewing this one. Its supposed to be a dark comedy, but I recon I missed it all. Didnt laugh once. If i could give a minus stars i would. The only good thing about the movie is Selma Hayek. Even she couldnt save it though. Half way through i was still searching for the plot and any entertaining scenes. Cannot believe someone actually funded this at all. No clue why its in the cinemas also. Do not buy a ticket. This is literally the only movie i've fallen asleep.
Absolute garbage

I would have rated it -10 if possible. This movie is so horribly bad that I can't even find words to describe how utterly rubbish it is. Don't waste a second of your life on this nonsense, do something more productive with your time, like staring at a wall. I guarantee that's going to be more entertaining than this movie.
Worst movie ever ever ever ever

Bad film like this make Reality TV appear as high art.

I'm always puzzled when I see something like this struggle through itself and wonder how anyone or in this case 100's of people committed their time and talents to this and it appears to missing both. Worst movie I've seen in years.
Something endearing about it...cute

Relax everyone, it isn't bad as stated by folks. The writing is a bit rusty sure but the actors strength held it together. Baldwins funny phone answers differ each time and are really funny and Selma's character uses patchy english pronounciations in her character which are hilarious at times! I thought they were both funny. Back to the writing though, poor flow but they kept reinforcing how much the 2 loved each other and they showed that sticking together and taking the days one at a time is the best way to champion adversity.
Cameos by Wil Ferrell and Colin Quinn are unexpected and corny funny in a way that fits their reputations. The movie is a heartwarmer. I frankly am a bit tired of perfect movies and this one was good enough to keep me watching and yeah, I groaned a bit, scratched my head on some weird and odd scripts but, one day, I will watch this again.
I wasted 2 hours of my life

Don't Pay Attention to My Review

I L-O-V-E-D it so much.
Yes, it is a stinker of a movie.
Terrible. Just awful. But sometimes that's the mood you're in and that's the mood I was in when I watched it. I needed something goofy and terrible and this was it.
Love the redux of Hayak and Baldwin. I don't know.
Like I said....pay me no mind...

Alec & Selma I'm big fans of. But this film was just way off point. No substance, no comedy nothing. I didn't laugh once. This is a picture one will forget real fast. The only good thing is I'll never watch it again.
Worse than garbage

Like someone else said, I cant believe someone funded this.
Comedies don't have any substance anymore. This movie has cheap "humor" throughout. Just because you swear doesnt make what you are saying funny.
This movie must have been an embarrassment to all the well known actors involved. The best part of this movie is that I had the option to turn it off. Which I did halfway through. Dont bother with this one
Couldnt give 0 stars

This film was one of the options on an airline flight I took last week. I wasn't expecting much, but the airline's other choices were not appealing either, so I gave "Drunken Parents" a try.
Parts of this film turned out to be very funny. I was laughing out loud quite a lot. The plot was stupid, but the actors made the most of things, often successfully. I am very glad I didn't look at the IMDB rating first (currently 3.7), or I would never have given this film a chance.

Just rent "The House" instead
jim-118531 May 2019
This has made it to Red Box in record time. Two stars for Salma Hayek's contributions and minus nine stars for whoever greenlit this steaming pile. The same premise was done a couple of years ago with Amy Poehler and Will Ferrell playing the parents and they decided to open a casino instead of having a yard sale. Better idea and much better movie. Just rent that one instead. Thank me later.
Bad just bad

Warning: Spoilers
When Rachel (Michelle Veintimilla) goes off to college, parents Frank (Alec Baldwin ) and Nancy (Salma Hayek) lives go off the rails. They are in deep financial trouble and live in an upper-class neighborhood. They drink and accidentally rent out their neighbor's home while he is away...twice and one is a registered pedophile.
Yes, the parents drink, but the film was not about "Drunk Parents." That was a lame unimaginative title. Salma Hayek played a great potty-mouthed drunk and I wish they had scripted more of it. The tangents the film goes on didn't work. They tried to do too much in a short period of time, never establishing character. Jim Gaffigan was good as the perv. They could have done better than Alec Baldwin.
Will Ferrell catches fire and the mess up and put it out rather than let him burn to a crip. Yes, I loathe Will Ferrell. Fred Wolf has been on a decline since Grown-Ups 2.
Guide: F-word. No sex or nudity.
