Written by Michael Nilon and directed by Benjamin Brewer, this terrifying post-apocalyptic horror thriller premiered at South by Southwest this past March. It stars Nicolas Cage, Jaeden Martell, Maxwell Jenkins and Sadie Soverall.
In a near future where earth has been decimated by an undisclosed catastrophe, Paul (Cage) barely escapes alive from the city alongside his infant twin boys. Years later, Paul and his teenage sons Joseph (Martell) and Thomas (Jenkins) are living in a remote farmhouse miles away from their nearest neighbours at Rose Farm. During the day, the boys and their father work the land and gather provisions, but at night the threesome are under siege from killer creatures that roam the land.
The trio’s quotidian life of humdrum chores and trying to survive each night at a time, is thrown into chaos when Thomas, the more rebellious of the two brothers, fails to return before nightfall one evening.

Known for making the most sensational horror flicks of the last decade, A24 is on all genre veterans' lips. There is no doubt that if you enjoy chilling stories you’ve seen at least one of their horrors, which include The Witch (2015), It Comes at Night (2017), Hereditary (2018), Midsommar (2019) and the recently hyped Talk to Me (2023).
Every fan of the studio knows it has just released another must-see horror, that combines not only scary parts and suspense, but also science fiction and drama elements. It was theatrically released on May 17 and has already gained lots of praise.
The plot revolves around Owen, a teenage outcast, who tries to make it through the struggles of coming of age and not belonging to the society. One day his classmate Maddy introduces him to a mysterious late-night TV show titled The Pink Opaque that focuses on two teenagers who are fighting monster creatures using their supernatural abilities.

Joel Edgerton is playing a physicist who cannot control (or fathom) the constraints of the scientific world once he wakes up in a parallel reality.
Edgerton executives produces and stars in Apple TV+ sci-fi series “Dark Matter,” based on Blake Crouch’s novel of the same name. Author Crouch adapts his own book for the screen, penning the pilot of the nine-episode series and serving as showrunner.
The official logline reads: “There are infinite realities. This is the one where Jason Dessen (Edgerton) kidnaps himself.”
“Dark Matter” centers on Edgerton’s Jason Dessen, who is a physicist, professor, and family man. Michel Gondry is about to make a lot of people happy, teaming with Pharrell Williams, Kelvin Harrison Jr. and recent Oscar winner Da’Vine Joy Randolph for Atlantis, a new film that is partly inspired by Williams’ upbringing.
While no plot details have been unveiled, according to Deadline, Atlantis is “a coming-of-age musical, set in 1977 Virginia Beach, which draws inspiration from Williams’ childhood growing up in the city’s Atlantis Apartments.” In addition to Gondry signed on as director, screenwriters on board are Toy Story 4’s Martin Hynes and Tick, Tick…Boom’s Steven Levenson.
Atlantis was revealed back in 2017. While Hynes was attached even as far back as then, originally Michael Mayer – who won the Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical for Spring Awakening – was set to direct.

Here's my pitch to sell you on director Benjamin Brewer's Arcadian: it's A Quiet Place but with Nicolas Cage and better creature elements. The last part came as a huge shocker. Writer Michael Nilon sets the stage for an eerily familiar doomsday scenario that feels like Gareth Edwards' Monsters at first but quickly finds its roots as a sibling to John Krasinski's alien invasion franchise. Arcadian does take a bit to reach its full momentum, not as dynamically engaging as a survivalist drama, but once the monsters reveal themselves? Brewer executes what could be a knockout audition to direct the next A Quiet Place sequel, should there be more on the horizon.
We first meet Cage's protagonist, Paul, fleeing a metropolitan city under state-of-emergency sirens. Military rockets are fired towards an invisible foe as Paul escapes the crumbling architecture, eventually retreating to a homestead in farmland...

In 1972, “Deliverance” was unleashed upon a worldwide audience, taking hold of the box office and becoming a true cultural milestone packed with cinematic tropes still referenced today. In many ways, this disturbing thriller about four men on a canoeing trip through a remote section of wilderness as sadistic mountain men stalk them is regarded as one of the first takes on the concept of an evil waiting in the background, with notable entries following in the decades to come ranging from the likes of “The Last House on the Left” (released the same year) to landmarks “Friday the 13th” and “Predator” alongside more recent efforts “Eden Lake” and “It Comes at Night.“ Has the genre now reached a peak, or did this already occur long ago?

One year after the release of the Robert Eggers-directed The Witch, A24 returned to movie theaters with It Comes at Night, which made its way into theaters on June 9, 2017.
Directed by Trey Edward Schults, who had previously directed the A24-distributed film Krisha, It Comes at Night doesn’t often come up when horror fans are discussing A24’s best horror efforts, but the low-budget horror film did manage to scare up $19.7 million at the worldwide box office along with an 88% Fresh score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
Many horror fans weren’t so kind about the movie, however, with the general consensus at the time being that the film’s trailers set poor expectations for what the movie would be like. The audience score for It Comes at Night on Rotten Tomatoes sits at 44%, and though that’s not uncommon for arthouse horror films, there’s no denying...

An untitled film led by Jenna Ortega, Barry Keoghan and The Weeknd is said to be a loose remake of the 1990 thriller, Misery.
We’ve known for a little while that filmmaker Trey Edward Shults is cooking up something interesting for his next film, but according to reports, he may actually be tackling a ‘loose remake’ of Stephen King’s Misery. King’s 1987 novel got a classic adaptation from director Rob Reiner in 1990 – it’s the one where a crazed fan keeps her favourite writer hostage, forcing him to rewrite his stories to suit her tastes.
The cast that the It Comes At Night and Krisha filmmaker has assembled for the project already made a few waves when it was first announced: both Barry Keoghan and Jenna Ortega are very much in demand at the moment. Music star The Weeknd (aka Abel Tesfaye) is also set to appear. And while...

The Boys in the Boat, directed by George Clooney and based on Daniel James Brown’s best-selling book, takes us on an emotionally charged journey through the inspiring true story of the University of Washington crew at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin. With compelling performances from Callum Turner and Joel Edgerton, this biographical sports drama captures the essence of resilience, camaraderie, and the pursuit of the American dream.
Set against the backdrop of the Great Depression, the film introduces us to Joe Rantz who is portrayed with depth and authenticity by Turner. Abandoned by his family during his formative years, Rantz embodies the spirit of the working-class student athletes who come together to form the University of Washington rowing team. As Joe’s personal and financial struggles threaten to derail his sporting ambitions, he soon finds solace in his coach’s fatherly approach as as his team qualifies for the 1936 Olympic Games in Nazi Germany.

Christopher Abbott is the new “Wolf Man,” taking over the starring role in the upcoming monster movie from Blumhouse and Universal Pictures from Ryan Gosling.
Details on the project are being kept under wraps, but Abbott plays a man whose family is being terrorized by a lethal predator.
“Wolf Man” will be directed by Leigh Whannell — who was behind the 2020 hit “The Invisible Man,” which relaunched the Universal monsterverse and grossed $144 million at the global box office — and is dated for release on Oct. 25. The film is written by Whannell and Corbett Tuck and Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo (“Dumb Money”).
The project was originally announced in 2020 with Gosling set to star; in 2021, Derek Cianfrance signed on to direct, reuniting after their acclaimed collaborations on 2010’s “Blue Valentine” and 2012’s “The Place Beyond the Pines.” The pair departed the picture together, though Gosling will remain involved with the project as an executive producer.

A24 has confirmed that they’re re-teaming with Halina Reijn, the director of their slasher satire Bodies Bodies Bodies, on a erotic thriller called Babygirl – and an impressive cast has already been assembled for the film. Here’s the line-up: Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos), Antonio Banderas (Desperado), Harris Dickinson (The Iron Claw), Sophie Wilde (Talk to Me), and Jean Reno (Léon: The Professional).
According to Deadline, Reijn will be working from a screenplay she wrote herself. The story she crafted for this one centers on a successful CEO who begins an illicit affair with her much younger intern. Given the “thriller” part of the “erotic thriller” description, we have to assume that this affair goes terribly wrong in some way… probably in a way that involves more than just hurt feelings.

After Krisha (2015), It Comes at Night (2017) and Waves (2019), American indie filmmaker Trey Edward Shults might actually be shooting from both sides of the hip in 2024. The first project to see the light could very well be a film he developed with Abel Tesfaye aka “The Weeknd”. They co-wrote the currently untitled project together, and The Weeknd stars alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan. Cinematographer Chayse Irvin is onboard and for the composers we find Opn + The Weeknd. Production would have taken place in February so this is more than ready acquisitions.

It's the Circle of Life: Disney keeps returning to the same well over and over until it runs dry, at which point the studio is forced to innovate again. After a decade of raking in billions of dollars by remaking its beloved animated features as either live-action/CGI hybrid films or animated films with photorealistic CGI, the House of Mouse has finally started to see a slowdown on that front, with the 2023 version of "The Little Mermaid" falling well short of the box office heights scaled by the previous re-imaginings of Disney Renaissance classics. Of course, this particular money-printing machine isn't about to break down overnight, as several more re-tellings are making their way down the assembly line as we speak.
Along with live-action takes on "Snow White," "Lilo & Stitch, and "Moana," Disney is also working on "Mufasa: The Lion King," an extension of its 2019 computer-animated (I said what I...

Australian YouTuber twins Danny and Michael Philippou’s feature debut is an entertaining chiller that mixes shrieking horror and psychological nuance
The crepuscular palette of It Comes at Night meets the teen-friendly curses of Ringu and the cackling demonic infestations of The Evil Dead in this sprightly debut feature from Australian twins Danny and Michael Philippou. A sharp blend of psychological reality, potent topicality and phantasmagorial invention (a gateway to the beyond) create an intelligently entertaining chiller that packs a crowd-pleasing wallop without succumbing to quiet, quiet, Loud jump-scare cliches.
An unexpectedly pointed party opening (as startling as Scream) and a distressing roadkill encounter with a kangaroo neatly set the scene for what is to come. Two years after the untimely death of her mother, 17-year-old Mia (Sophie Wilde) has retreated from her father, preferring to hang out at the home of best friend Jade (Alexandra Jensen), who lives with her mum,...

American director Daniel McCabe and his team have opened up to Variety about the making of “Grasshopper Republic” at Swiss international documentary film fest Visions du Réel, where the pic is nominated in the main competition.
Based on a book of photographs by Michele Sibiloni, a photographer and long-time friend of McCabe, who co-shot the film with him and his brother Michael, “Grasshopper Republic” takes viewers on an immersive vérité style journey alongside Uganda’s grasshopper trappers as they set out to make the catch they hope will make them rich: prices and demand for grasshoppers are high in Uganda, where they are considered a delicacy.
The director was keen to emphasize the collaborative nature of the film, which was shot over three seasons in Uganda. Access to the trappers was made possible thanks to Sibiloni’s well established contacts with them.

Kelvin Harrison Jr. is currently making music magic as the talented violinist Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges in the film "Chevalier." The 28-year-old actor has been steadily building his résumé for a while now, appearing in hit titles like "Elvis" and "The Trial of the Chicago 7," but "Chevalier" - which released in theaters on April 21 - is poised to be his biggest star turn yet.
Bologne was a French violinist and composer who worked to take leadership of the Paris Opera during the onset of the French Revolution. Harrison Jr. himself is a talented musician and plays violin, jazz and gospel piano, and trumpet, in addition to being a vocalist. Each year, the Film Independent Spirit Awards gives the John Cassavetes Award to the year’s best feature made for under $1,000,000. In this column, film critic David Bax compares and contrasts past Cassavetes winners with their most recent work.

Trey Edward Shults has made three feature films so far and, technically, only one of them (2017’s It Comes at Night) is a horror movie. But from the opening shot of 2015’s Krisha (which won him the John Cassavetes Award at the 31st Film Independent Spirit Awards in February of 2016)—a close-up of a woman’s face, stricken with an emotion we can’t quite place yet and accompanied by rumbling, ominous music—it’s clear that Shults will be exercising a talent for unnerving us, no matter what genre he may be working in.

An intriguing list of artists there, to be sure. But now IndieWire reports that’s not the only project Shults has lined. Trey Shults is riding the wave of Hollywood stardom.
After the “Waves” director recently confirmed an upcoming film starring Jenna Ortega, Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan, and The Weeknd, aka Abel Tesfaye, sources told IndieWire that Shults is additionally helming a secret A24 film. Casting has not yet been announced for the still-untitled feature.
A24 recently took home nine Oscars and made history as the first studio to dominate all major categories at the Academy Awards, with Best Picture winner “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “The Whale” sweeping acting categories.
The previously announced Shults film, which he co-wrote with Tesfaye, also has tangential ties to A24. Reza Fahim, who collaborated with Tesfaye on HBO series “The Idol,” also co-wrote the new project; A24 produces “The Idol,” as well as “Euphoria,” with “The Idol” showrunner Sam Levinson.

The star of the 2023 Oscar season was “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” but you could be forgiven for thinking it was A24. The company picked up nine Oscars at the ceremony and there wasn’t a safe commercial bet among them.
On top of launching the zany ambition of “Everything Everywhere” into a $107 million worldwide gross, A24 also scored two Oscars for Darren Aronofsky’s divisive “The Whale,” which sneaked its way past $35 million accumulated over a gradual release plan. Its nominees also included two Cannes acquisitions, Best International Feature Film nominee “Close” and “Aftersun,” which secured a Best Actor nomination for Paul Mescal and solidified his stardom. Despite the blockbuster successes of “Top Gun: Maverick” and “Avatar: The Way of Water” in 2022, the year’s big winner was a company that didn’t exist when these franchises were born.

Talk to Me went over so well with festival audiences (it has been said that even the likes of Steven Spielberg and Jordan Peele have watched and loved the film), a bidding war was launched over the distribution rights. The scariest thing for newly-minted scream queen Jenna Ortega? Conflicting production schedules.
The “Wednesday” star revealed that she was “devastated” to not return to serial killer drama “You” for Season 4 after making her series debut in the second season as Joe Goldberg’s (Penn Badgley) confidante Ellie.
“I was devastated,” Ortega told Entertainment Tonight of not being able to return to the series. “Easily one of my favorite sets that I’ve ever, ever been on. I was so devastated. I miss Ellie, and I’ve been wanting to go back to Ellie for a long time, but I was in Romania shooting ‘Wednesday.’ I couldn’t travel back and forth with the pandemic and everything like that, and when you’re committed to a show there’s just no way that it could’ve worked out.”
Ortega added, “But that one, that bummed me out. I tried.”

Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye will have his first starring role in a feature film that he wrote and is also producing. The picture, which is currently untitled and has been kept shrouded in mystery regarding its plot, genre and the like is being directed by Trey Edward Shults, the filmmaker behind “Waves” and “It Comes at Night.” Shults also co-wrote the movie and is executive producing it. We do know that it is shooting in Los Angeles, but aside from that the “logline is being kept under wraps.”
Whether comedy or tragedy, action adventure or musical extravaganza, this impressively vague feature has lined up a top shelf cast. Beyond The Weeknd, a Grammy-winning recording juggernaut, the film also stars Jenna Ortega, the star of “Wednesday” and “Scream VI,” as well as Barry Keoghan, the Oscar-nominated actor from “The Banshees of Inisherin” and “The Killing of a Sacred Deer.”

Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye has signed on to Trey Edward Shults’ untitled new picture. The film will team the musician with rising star Jenna Ortega and Oscar nominee Barry Keoghan. Riley Keough turned up in Hollywood on Thursday night to attend the world premiere of her new Prime Video TV series, Daisy Jones & the Six, marking her first red carpet appearance since the sudden death of her mother, Lisa Marie Presley, on Jan. 12. It was quite the scene, too, as the Tcl Chinese Theatre was packed with guests dressed to match the ’70s glam dress code while Keough and her co-stars were supported by a producing team that included Oscar-winner Reese Witherspoon.
Keough, wearing Schiaparelli Couture and accompanied by husband Ben Smith-Petersen, toplines the series as Daisy Jones, the co-lead singer of a ’70s rock band. Based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid, Daisy Jones & the Six details the rise and precipitous fall of that band, from early days toiling away at small gigs through a meteoric rise that culminates in a sold-out show at Chicago’s Soldier Field.

Fresh off playing a pivotal role in the horror film Smile (watch it Here), which earned over 200 million at the global box office, Caitlin Stasey has signed on to play the lead in the horror thriller Devil Inside. Stasey is joined in the cast by Lou Taylor Pucci (Evil Dead 2013) and Ryan Kwanten (Glorious). Devil Inside is currently in pre-production, and is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2023.
Directed by Jonathan auf Der Heide (Van Diemen’s Land), who also wrote the screenplay with Tom Holloway, Devil Inside is described as being in the vein of 28 Days Later and It Comes at Night – and Variety even used the dreaded “elevated” label when covering the movie, saying it’s “pitched as an elevated genre film”.

Odin’s Eye Entertainment announced today that Smile‘s Caitlin Stasey and Evil Dead‘s Lou Taylor Pucci have joined the cast of Jonathan auf Der Heide’s horror Devil Inside, Bloody Disgusting learned.
In the vein of 28 Days Later and It Comes at Night, the film explores the ‘what if’ question of a cross-species contagion, in this case from a Tasmanian Devil, the last of the marsupial carnivores.
The duo star alongside “True Blood” and Precious actor Ryan Kwanten.
In the film, “Stasey plays the role of Eva, a young virologist, who helps the local park ranger (Kwanten) research the Tasmanian Devil Facial Tumour Disease – a contagious cancer that has wiped out nearly 90 of the population.
“But when her husband, Alex (Pucci), is bitten by a sickly stray dog, Eva suspects the virus has mutated across species and is causing violent outbursts in the hosts.

“Smile” star Caitlin Stasey and Lou Taylor Pucci have joined the cast of Jonathan auf Der Heide’s upcoming horror-thriller film “Devil Inside.” They join the previously announced Ryan Kwanten.
Pitched as an elevated genre film in the vein of “28 Days Later” and “It Comes at Night,” the picture explores the ‘what if’ question of a cross-species contagion, in this case from a Tasmanian Devil, the last of the marsupial carnivores.
Stasey is fresh from Paramount’s 200 million-grossing hit “Smile” and is also known for her genre work on “I, Frankenstein” and “Tomorrow When the War Began.” Pucci won the Sundance Jury Prize and the Berlin Silver Bear for “Thumbsucker” and was star of the Sam Raimi-produced “Evile Dead” in 2013.

A highlight at Toronto International Film Festival earlier this fall, Stephen Williams’ Chevalier gives the stage to rising star Kelvin Harrison Jr.. Focusing on the life composer Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, the story follows the illegitimate son of an African slave and a French plantation owner, who rises to improbable heights in French society as a celebrated violinist-composer and fencer, complete with an ill-fated love affair and a falling out with Marie Antoinette (Lucy Boynton) herself and her court. Ahead of an April release from Searchlight, the first trailer has now arrived.
Jared Mobarak said in his review, “TIFF wasn’t kidding when they said they were welcoming director Stephen Williams back after pivoting into prestige television. It’s been 27 years since his theatrical debut Soul Survivor, with a laundry list of all your favorite shows in the meantime. Which just goes to prove that sometimes it’s all...

Florence Pugh has established herself as one of our most compelling actresses in a relatively short period of time, with awards-worthy performances in movies like "Little Women" and "Midsommar." But it's not just "Don't Worry Darling" that will give Pugh the spotlight this year as she is also headlining "The Wonder" for Netflix, which looks to be an atmospheric, mystery-filled thriller set in the 1800s just to add to the whole thing.
What happens when a nurse is brought in to investigate a young girl who won't eat during a time when people are generally hyper-religious and not far removed from famine? Things get creepy. Let's have a look.
The Wonder Trailer Brings The Mysterious, Creepy Vibes
Having not seen the film, the vibes I'm getting ring closer to "The Witch" or perhaps something like "It Comes at Night." Atmospheric horror/thriller vibes, rather than something packed with jump scares.

When I coined the term for scary films that broke the rules, gore fans showered me with abuse. Now it has been adopted by a festival – and I feel vindicated
Five years ago, in this paper, I coined a term to describe what I saw as a new trend in horror movies: “post-horror”. Bad idea. To me, the term had a nice ring to it – a bit like “postmodern”. And in the same way postmodern architecture played with established language and traditions without necessarily sticking to the rules, I suggested a number of recent horror movies were doing the same: movies such as It Comes at Night, A Ghost Story and The Witch. The “horror community” wasted no time in telling me how wrong I was. Responses to my article varied from “It’s all just horror, duh” to “This is elitist snobbery” to “You can’t possibly weigh on...
