Surrogate begins with Rose (Taysha Farrugia) celebrating her ninth birthday before going to bed. She asks her mother Natalie if they can check for monsters. Natalie tells her there are no such things, which of course means the girl has more to worry about than a jump scare from her Uncle Will.
As she’s leaving the now-closed clinic she has an encounter with a woman who seems to be mentally ill. She encounters the woman again when she stops for gas, this time having to try and save her after she drinks bleach. After this she suddenly develops symptoms that resemble a pregnancy, even waking up bloody from the waist down as though she had given birth, but there’s no baby to be found.

"Everyone wants freedom." A trailer has debuted for an indie sci-fi film titled Virtual Revolution, which first premiered in 2016 but is just now trying to get a release. The film also goes by the title 2047 - Virtual Reality in the UK, but I suppose the "virtual reality" in the title is a bit confusing, so they're using Virtual Revolution instead. Virtual Revolution is set in Paris in 2047, where most of the population spends their time online, connected into virtual worlds, and don't care anymore about reality. One "hybrid" (meaning he spends half in the real world, half in the virtual world) agent, who works for the companies that run these virtual worlds, tracks down terrorists who threaten the system. The basically seems like a nice indie mashup between Blade Runner and Ready Player One. This stars Mike Dopud, Jane Badler, Jochen Hägele, Maximilien Poullein, and Kaya Blocksage. Worth a look,...

The year is 2047 and the world has gone virtual. Most of the world’s population are plugged in and gaming online, lost in virtual worlds where your wildest dreams can become a reality. As to be expected, terrorism is rife with people known as Necromancer’s killing off gamers and extorting corporations. In Paris, it has reached critical level and a private investigator by the name of Nash (Mike Dopud) has been contracted to seek out those behind some of the attacks by high flyer Dina (Jand Badler) on behalf of the Synternis, one of the many corporations involved in the business. Will this hardened private eye be able to get the job done or will he...

Apparently the 2047 version of Paris will preserve much of the city’s distinct urban design, but with the addition of gigantic skyscrapers looming over the skyline, like birthday candles on an ornate cake — or at least that’s the vision of composer-turned-filmmaker Guy-Roger Duvert. Based on the template of massive multiplayer online role-playing games, sci-fi thriller Virtual Revolution is fairly ambitious for a first feature, so perhaps it’s telling that the most convincing scenes transpire within the movie’s virtual worlds, rather than throughout the principal narrative.
Although the intent is clearly to create a somewhat disorienting visual experience, it’s the...

"The Revolution did happen. Just not the way they thought it would." A trailer has arrived online for a French cyberpunk sci-fi film titled Virtual Revolution, an indie project from Guy-Roger Duvert - who also composed the score for this. Set in Paris in 2047, the story is about a "shadow agent" named Nash, played by Mike Dopud, who spends half his time in the Vr world and half in the real world as a private investigator. He's hired by one of the multinational companies behind these virtual worlds to track down terrorists who threaten the system. This definitely has a very low budget feel, but it looks impressive and there seems to be some cool ideas in it. Not sure if it's any good, but they got my attention with this trailer. Here's the trailer (+ poster) for Guy-Roger Duvert's Virtual Revolution, from YouTube (via Quiet Earth): In a...

From Dante 01 to Chrysalis, and beyond, French sci-fi is always welcome around these parts and this flick looks as ambitious as you might expect.

As video games become more cinematic in their audio-visual aesthetic, so films are looking to video games for inspiration. But though there can be some crossover, these are still two different mediums that require different approaches to storytelling. Guy-Roger Duvert's film Virtual Revolution explores both Vr gaming at its extreme, and the world it creates. At the same time, it attempts to recreate the video game aesthetic in cinema. Unfortunately, while at times the film is entertaining, this attempt to bring video game style and narrative to film doesn't work. In 2047, most of the world's populace is permanently connected to a gaming network, with multiple universes and role playing games in which to exist. Nash (Mike Dopud) works for one of the larger gaming...

I’ve got an awesome trailer for an independent sci-fi film you’ve gotta check out called Virtual Revolution. The film was directed by Guy-Roger Duvert and the story is set in Neo Paris, France in the year 2047. It’s a time of technological revolution in which 75% of the population spends all their time online in virtual worlds, leaving reality to a small minority of individuals. Here’s the story description for you to read:
The revolution did happen. Just not the way people thought it would. The population is now divided between a big majority, the Connected, always online, and a minority still attached to reality, called the Living. Some never really made a clear choice. They are the Hybrids.Nash is a Hybrid. He is also a killer, working for one of the world corporations behind several of the most important virtual worlds. His mission is to track,...
