Clarissa Kiste, actress of the director's following short, is mentioned in the hospital speakers being called to the nursery. In The White Sheet (2004), she plays a mother who kills her baby by accident.
Mayra Gomes was the director's Ethics teacher in University. She was invited to play the main role in this short, but, not being an actress, she declined.
This movie was edited into a short called "Cruzamentos", a funny reedit that shapes it like an anti-drinking commercial. This version ended up winning the director and the producer an award in money in a "drive safe" video competition.
"Espera" was planned in one continuous shot, but cut into five shots under orientation of teacher Suzana Amaral. The director still managed to stage most of the action in the final two minutes long shot.
The film is a direction exercise for the fifth semester of film school (University of São Paulo). It was shot in 2001.
