Writer/director David Ferino’s feature directorial debut, “Wardcliffe,” starring Joel McKinnon Miller and Shane Coffey.
Inspired by real events, Ferino’s script takes place over the course of a single day as Dennis (Miller) and his son Ronnie (Coffey) quarantine together during the 2020 pandemic lockdown. Decades of tension escalate to a boiling point when the two find themselves confined inside. And as the outside world is seized by confusion and terror, the gulf between the men becomes ever more pronounced, and ever more destructive.
“Wardcliffe” is produced and independently financed by Roger M. Mayer through his production company, Brooklyn Reptyle.
“When I first heard of this news event in 2020, I knew it had the right criteria for a first feature. The film could be made on a small production scale, but with big emotional weight. It’s a tragedy that encapsulates the heightened anxiety we collectively shared throughout the pandemic,...

We are living in the age of extraordinary horror films. The cinematic offerings to satisfy our cravings for a good scare or a story so terrifying it gives us nightmares have taken on many new forms, all exciting — and sometimes challenging. With the 2021 Sundance Film Festival wrapping up, let’s acknowledge that the Park City event has consistently been a great launching pad for new genre voices from around the world (Check out the AMC+ collection of past Sundance winners and festival favorites). Movies that begin their journey there go on to haunt audiences and often reshape our perception of the genre.
In the robust library of AMC+, you can see quite clearly how horror is no longer limited to studio-made films. In indie auteurs’ hands, horror has become the vehicle for stories with distinct points of view. And there are even non-fiction efforts that dig deeper into the significance and craft of revered classics.

After dropping out for close to a decade, Natasha Lyonne is finally at peace with her past. Now the Orange is the New Black star teams up with best friend Chloë Sevigny in the new horror shocker
If you’re going to watch anyone stumbling around a dump of a trailer while in the throes of a pus-oozing freak alien pregnancy, let it be Natasha Lyonne. In body-horror movie Antibirth, Lyonne is Lou, a wisecracking wastoid in ripped-up fishnets and shorts, living in her dead dad’s trailer, with Chloë Sevigny as her hard-partying sidekick. What’s wrong with her is unclear. Is she the subject of a government conspiracy, the victim of a blackmarket opioid gone wrong or simply the uterine host for a full-blown alien takeover? Who knows, in this big, trippy mess of a movie. But Lyonne, belly grossly distended with alien progeny ... well, she carries it.

Antibirth is written and directed by Danny Perez. The film stars Natasha Lyonne, Chloe Sevigny, and Meg Tilly.
Antibirth is billed as a psychedelic horror film, which is what interested me in seeing it. While the film does have one striking psychedelic scene right in the middle, for the most part Antibirth is more drunk than high.
Antibirth is about a heavy-drinking, whip-it huffing, drugged-out woman, Lou, who mysteriously becomes pregnant, even though she doesn't remember having had sex in the last six months. Of course we know right away that the fact that she doesn't remember having had sex doesn't actually mean that she actually hasn't, but she doesn't seem to know this, and neither do the other characters. As her pregnancy progresses she shows unusual symptoms, but instead of taking any meaningful action she just mopes around.

2016 has been an exceptional all-around year for horror and sci-fi films—from the indie realm, we’ve been gifted with an enormous amount of brilliant cinematic stories throughout the past 12 months, and we even saw studios step up their game with an almost unprecedented amount of quality releases.
And along with this wealth of top-notch entertainment, we also saw an incredible number of fantastic female characters over the course of 2016—some heroic, some villainous, but all endlessly engaging in their own right. With that in mind, I thought it would be fun to celebrate some of my favorite female performers from this year who gave us complex, interesting, and wholly compelling reasons to keep falling in love with genre cinema all over again (and again).

Lou (Natasha Lyonne) is a chainsmoking, hard partying — and I mean Hard — lady. The last thing you would expect or want to see for her is a pregnancy, but after a night of black out she soon discovers that’s maybe the case. Her denial is strong, but she keeps getting bigger and it’s the obvious answer. But then strange things begin happening to her body: bizarre dreams involving mascot characters, infected skin, rotting teeth, extremely blistered feet, and an absurdly distended belly that pulsates. Aided by her friend Sadie (Chloe Sevigny) and a mysterious woman named Lorna (Meg Tilly) who wants to help her, they set...

Ending with an enjoyably gonzo gross-out sequence that’s the love child of David Cronenberg and Takashi Miike, it spends the prior 90 minutes meandering through a series of vignettes and confused half-justifications for the eventual destination, none of which cohere in any satisfying, or even sensible, way. It strives for arthouse abstraction but lands on choppy patchwork storytelling. Thankfully, what it does have is Natasha Lyonne, who almost singlehandedly keeps this misconceived endeavor afloat, or at least not actively unwatchable.
The actor has experienced a remarkable resurgence in the past few years, thanks in part to her profile-boosting turn on Orange Is The New Black and an addiction-to-sobriety path to rival Robert Downey Jr. Here, she channels her storied past to play Lou, the kind of drug-addled but charming fuckup that plays to Lyonne’s strengths—a bluntly outsized ...

Burnouts, pregnancy and aliens – Antibirth is a twisted concoction of “Wtf” puzzle-piecing drenched in prenatal paranoia. Filmmaker Danny Perez keeps us guessing through second-hand-haziness, as his stoner prophecy plays like a bad trip caught on film. The entire rabbit hole is built on munchie runs and bong hits, but as Perez’s characters stay sufficiently buzzed, a larger story turns into sci-fi weirdness supplied in tablet form. Drugs act as a foreshadowing mechanism in themselves, hinting at far-out conclusions that no rational mind would calmly predict – even with all the flashy lights, neon costumes and experimental narcotics.
All well and good, except for the fact that I was entirely too sober for whatever the hell Antibirth is laying down.
Natasha Lyonne stars as Lou, a strung-out party girl who wakes up with pains and aches after a particularly blurry night. As Lou attempts to recall what nastiness she got herself involved in,...

Both unflinchingly realistic and strangely surreal, the new film Antibirth boldly blazes a path into a genre all its own. With IFC Midnight releasing Antibirth in select theaters and on VOD this Friday, September 2nd, I had the opportunity to catch up with writer/director Danny Perez for our latest Q&A feature to discuss working with Natasha Lyonne and Mark Webber, mixing contrasting elements in settings and tone, and much more.
Thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us, Danny, and congratulations on Antibirth. It’s definitely a film that will stick with me for a long time to come. Had this story been brewing within you for a while? How long did it take you to write the screenplay?
Danny Perez: Thanks for your support. The script had gone through about twenty drafts over about four years. I had been interested in various elements...

Approaching psychedelic levels of strangeness, our exclusive clip from Antibirth makes the case ... well, I don't know what case it makes, but it sure is weird. It's also Nsfw (Not Safe For Work), and Pnsfpwotp (Probably Not Safe For Pregnant Women Or Their Partners). Synopsis: Hard-drinking, pill-popping, bong-ripping Lou (Natasha Lyonne) and her best friend Sadie (Chloë Sevigny) spend their days adrift in a druggy haze. But one wild night out becomes a bad trip that never ends when Lou wakes up with symptoms of an unexplained, highly abnormal pregnancy. Who -- or what -- is growing inside her? Greenlight Essentials has combined science and art to revolutionize how movies are made. The studio, created by Jack Zhang, started a Kickstarter campaign to fund his horror film, “Impossible Things.” But this isn’t a thriller like any other, the movie is co-written by artificial intelligence (A.I.).

Here's a bit of wackiness to kick off your weekend: the batshit crazy trailer for Danny Perez's Antibirth.
The movie which debuted at Sundance and recently played at Fantasia, stars Natasha Lyonne (of "Orange is the New Black" fame) as Lou, a hard living party animal who wakes from a particularly great night of partying not feeling too good.
She soon discovers she's pregnant – by her account it's immaculate conception – and believes that the baby is making her crazy.
Along with Lyonne, the movie also stars the great Chloë Sevigny as Lous best friend and roommate Sadie and Meg Tilly.
To call this trailer weird is an understatement. It's downright bonkers. I can't tell if Lou is just high all the time and hallucinating or if she's actu [Continued ...]...

The general advice for pregnant women is to stay clear of cigarettes, recreational drugs, and copious amounts of alcohol. But it’s a little unclear if those guidelines still apply when one is giving birth to an immaculately conceived demon baby. That’s what first time feature director Danny Perez set out to investigate with Antibirth, his trippy pregnancy-themed horror movie that aims to make Rosemary’s Baby look like a walk in the park.
Orange Is The New Black’s Natasha Lyonne plays a grungy party girl who wakes up from a bad trip to discover she’s pregnant. She and her best friend (Chloë Sevigny) try to figure out what’s going on while body horror, “surreal shocks,” and black comedy unfold around them. Antibirth was easily one of the most batshit crazy films that I saw at Sundance this year. The movie stars Natasha Lyonne (American Pie, Orange is the New Black) as a crazy, hard-partying woman who finds herself pregnant. What’s strange about this pregnancy is that she hasn’t had sex in months and her weird condition escalates into complete whacked-out madness! The ending of the film is definitely something you’ll never forget. Here’s the synopsis:

As a man who is no way resembles Arnold Schwarzenegger in Junior, I cannot become pregnant (as far as I know), yet a new trailer for Antibirth suggests that it is still a horrifying possibility for any person. Natasha Lyonne stars in the movie, and the cast includes Chloë Sevigny and Meg Tilly (*sigh of unrequited love*), and their talents guarantee, I would hope, a great basis for enjoyment. "Yeah I don't think anyone's seen something like this before..." IFC Midnight has released a trailer for the weird Sundance Midnight film Antibirth, a wacky drug-trip-gone-wrong horror-comedy starring Natasha Lyonne and Chloë Sevigny. The twisted pregnancy plot involves a "wild-eyed stoner" waking up after a seriously "wild night of partying with symptoms of a strange illness and recurring visions as she struggles to get a grip on reality." The full cast includes Meg Tilly, Emmanuel Kabongo, Corey Pascall and Mark Webber. There's some totally frickin' wacky, disgusting and completely insane stuff in this trailer, I don't even know what to make of it. But if you're into trippy, crazy, unlike-anything-else horror - give this a shot. Here's the first official trailer for Danny Perez's Antibirth, direct from IFC Midnight's YouTube: Hard-drinking, pill-popping, bong-ripping Lou (Lyonne) and her best friend Sadie (Sevigny) spend their days adrift in a druggy haze.

You may have had some rough nights of partying a little too hard, but they surely don’t compare to what Natasha Lyonne goes through in her latest film. Premiering as part of the Midnight section at Sundance Film Festival this past year, Danny Perez‘s Antibirth finds the actress experiencing immaculate conception that turns quite evil. Ahead of a release next month from IFC Midnight, the first trailer has now arrived.

Pregnancy can be challenging and scary for any young woman, but it’s even more frightening when you don’t know how you got pregnant. In the new body-horror comedy “Antibirth,” hard-partying stoner Lou (Natasha Lyonne) wakes up one morning to discover that she’s pregnant despite not having sex in over a year. Living in a small Michigan town, Lou and her best friend Sadie (Chloë Sevigny) try to discover how this could happen in a drug-addled haze, but when a mysterious stranger (Meg Tilly) raises the possibility of something otherworldly, it throws everyone for a loop. Suddenly, Lou starts to lose a grip on reality as the person (or thing) growing inside her begins to distort her mind. Watch the trailer below, courtesy of EW.

“I always loved posters just like I love scores and soundtracks,” Nicolas Winding Refn once told IndieWire. “It’s just something around cinema that is more about your imagination, more about what you’re going to be seeing rather than what it is you’re actually seeing. I find that very intoxicating.” Unfortunately, the art of the movie poster has become something of a dying breed in the age of blockbusters and studio tentpoles. For every couple ingenious one-sheets, there seems to be about a hundred carbon copies.

Ugly and occasionally entertaining, the female-led Antibirth is a punk rock horror thriller set in a decaying suburb somewhere in Michigan. Opening in the middle of a hardcore rager, we’re introduced to pals Lou (Natasha Lyonne) and Sadie (Chloe Sevigny), two aging party girls pushing 40 who are living fast in a landscape that offers little else. The film takes this element seriously, even if its surely an ugly one. Lou, a military vet, lives rent free in her dead father’s trailer. To make ends meet she cleans rooms part time at a local budget motel, snorting a few lines of whatever to make it through the day.

Last week at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival, writer/director Danny Perez celebrated the world premiere of his wildly surreal horror movie, Antibirth, which co-stars Natasha Lyonne and Chloë Sevigny. Daily Dead had the opportunity to speak with Perez about what inspired the story of Antibirth, his approach to the material, his experiences collaborating with his cast and more.
What inspired the story for Antibirth? We’ve seen pregnancy horror movies before, but this felt wholly different than anything I’ve ever seen before.
Danny Perez: Thanks, it comes from a couple different sources, but ultimately I was friends with Natasha. I knew I wanted to work with her, so I knew I wanted to write something for her. I wanted to do something with a female lead because narratively and visually I'm more interested in that. I knew that I wanted to subvert a lot of female archetypes, so...

Despite being real-life, decades-long best friends, Natasha Lyonne and Chloë Sevigny had never appeared onscreen together before making director Danny Perez's subversive, pregnancy- and experimental-drug-themed body-horror trip of a feature-film debut, Antibirth, which Lyonne also produced. The movie is a perfect addition to Sundance's "Midnight" section, and features Lyonne and Sevigny as hard-partying best friends in a desolate middle-of-nowhere Michigan town overrun with drug addiction. Lyonne's character Lou blacks out at a warehouse rager, and the next morning, as she's taking her usual five bong hits, she starts feeling a little weird. Like, her titties and her uterus are hurting, but she hasn't got laid in forever, so she can't be pregnant — right? What follows is a trippy mystery filled with body horror and supernatural elements, as Lou's face starts peeling off and her belly starts growing. We eventually learn that the men of the town have taken it...

Written and directed by Danny Perez, the film is a wildly surreal examination of the horrors of pregnancy, and the duo discussed what attracted them to the project, how their real-life friendship spilled over into the project and more.
Thanks for speaking with me today, ladies. What I really dug about Antibirth is the fact that it starts out going one way and then in the third act it goes somewhere totally different than I was expecting. It’s very much the type of movie you'd expect to see at Sundance.

Antibirth is a good old body horror movie. First time director Danny Perez has come up with an entertaining grossout riff on Cronenberg-style body horror, featuring a great performance from Lyonne
What if the Dude from The Big Lebowski somehow ended up in David Cronenberg’s The Brood? Well, that’s not exactly what the oddball Sundance midnight film Antibirth is like, but that’s what my summary would be if I was ripping epic bong hits on my scuzzy couch and describing this “epically fucked-up thing” I just saw.
Believe me, this is hardly my usual state of affairs. However, Danny Perez’ first feature goes out of its way to be atypical. Natasha Lyonne, bringing richness to an extremely difficult role, is Lou; a grouchy, swearing, pill-gobbling boozer who still manages, somehow, to be adorable. Antibirth is not set in the La party scene, but in nowheresville Michigan, cold and ugly, where you need to bum a...
