The debut season of “American Song Contest” on NBC ended with Oklahoma’s AleXa claiming victory thanks to her psychedelic K-pop tune “Wonderland.” (Read our minute-by-minute recap of the Grand Final.) AleXa is a singer, dancer and songwriter who grew up in Tulsa but now lives in Seoul, South Korea. The day after the finale aired, Gold Derby sat down with the viral sensation to talk about her big win and what she thought of hosts Kelly Clarkson and Snoop Dogg. Watch our exclusive video interview above.
“Overwhelmed would be the correct word,” AleXa says when asked to describe what she felt the moment she won. “It was such a moment of just pure happiness and luck and gratitude, because in that moment I had my mother on my left, my father on my right, my company CEO that flew in all the way from Korea, as well as the rest of our staff.

“American Song Contest” started with 56 participants. But in the end, there could only be one winner. Read on for the complete results of the Season 1 finale, which aired Monday, May 9 on NBC. Warning: this article contains spoilers! Did the right person win “American Song Contest” 2022? Give us your hot take by voting in our poll below.
In the week leading up to the Grand Finals, Washington’s Allen Stone was the predicted front-runner, according to Gold Derby odds. The Grammy-nominated folk singer was the recipient of the national jury vote thrice — first in the qualifiers, then in the semi-finals, lastly in the finale — thanks to his feel-good song “A Bit of Both.” However, he was upset on finale night by Oklahoma’s AleXa, our second place choice. While Stone was a favorite of the jurists, AleXa secured more viewers’ votes and thus claimed a well-deserved victory.

Former NBA star and social media personality Rex Chapman is the latest media figure to join the growing lineup of hosts at CNN Plus.
Per the WarnerMedia-owned subscription streaming platform, which is set to debut in the first quarter of the year, “Chapman is known for celebrating the highs of college basketball and NBA stardom, rebounding from the lows of opioid addiction and now for his viral social media presence where he shares humor and positivity.”
Chapman’s weekly CNN Plus show isn’t described as a talk show, but rather a program that includes “intimate conversations with athletes, entertainers and everyday heroes as Chapman looks for the silver lining beyond today’s toughest headlines.”
The currently untitled Chapman-hosted show will join the lineup of original series that CNN Plus has set to be available at launch.
Chapman was a basketball legend at the University of Kentucky and a 12-season former NBA star.

Anderson Cooper, the longtime anchor who leads off CNN’s primetime schedule each weeknight, will expand his hosting duties with a new show, “Parental Guidance” on CNN Plus, the streaming-video hub expected to debut in the first quarter of 2022. Cooper will also continue to host “Full Circle,” which will move to the streaming service in 2022.
Cooper will add to the options already announced for the new venue, which aims to lure news aficionados and CNN “superfans” to a new broadband subscription product. CNN has already announced series led by Chris Wallace, Eva Longoria, Kasie Hunt, Scott Galloway and Poppy Harlow.
CNN’s interest in streaming in the past came mainly in ancillary businesses, like Great Big Story, a site devoted to short-form documentaries, and a project with YouTube influencer Casey Neistat. CNN Plus, however, will rely on the news outlet’s full resources and brand, entering a field already crowded by rivals and upstarts.

The 10th edition of Cartoons Underground is once again online — so we at Asian Movie Pulse took the opportunity to see Southeast Asia’s rising stars. We recently interviewed the Singaporean festival’s student competitors over Zoom. Compared to last year, this year’s selection feels more somber. But perhaps that is because everyone is simply older. Our interviewees are all recent graduates with strong illustration backgrounds this time around. Two of Singapore’s three animation school powerhouses are represented here: Javon Chan Yi Da and Su Xian Yeow hail from Nanyang Technical University; Eiris Lu and Novella Lian stand in for Lasalle College of the Arts.
Their shorts display a range in medium as well. Javon Chan Yi Da’s “A Fish for a Friend” stands out as a Pixar-esque, stylized 3D animated short. Su Xian Yeow’s “Full Circle” leans heavily into print illustration, the film frames awash with blocks of color.

Anticipated titles include Alex van Warmerdam’s latest feature “No. 10,” which tells the story of an actor who cannot recall his past but who is strong-armed into his future by a group of strangers.
“Goldie” director Sam de Jong also looks set to return with his third film, “Met Mes,” a satire about the media focusing on a TV personality who exaggerates the theft of a new camera, which leads to unforeseen consequences.
Other films creating buzz include “My Father Is an Aeroplane,” directed by Antoinette Beumer (“Jackie”), which is set to open the Netherlands Film Festival.

Per WarnerMedia, “Full Circle” will center on an investigation into a botched kidnapping that uncovers long-held secrets connecting multiple characters and cultures in present day New York City. A release date and casting details for the limited series were not provided.

Steven Soderbergh can't stop, won't stop, so he's got yet another new project on the way. The prolific filmmaker — so prolific that he kept directing stuff even when he "retired" once — is reuniting with "No Sudden Move" writer Ed Solomon for the HBO Max series "Full Circle." The show involves a "botched kidnapping" and "long-held secrets connecting multiple characters" in New York. Soderbergh will direct all six episodes of the series and serve as executive producer with Solomon serving as writer and executive producer.
The news about "Full Circle" comes directly from HBO, with Joey Chavez, executive vice president of original drama, HBO Max, saying:

Game of Thrones vet Jacob Anderson is sinking his teeth into a bloody new role: The actor will star in AMC’s Interview With the Vampire series as the titular vamp Louis, our sister site Variety reports.
In the Anne Rice novels, Louis de Pointe du Lac relates the story of his life to a reporter, in particular how he was turned into a vampire and then mentored by Lestat de Lioncourt (played by Sam Reid in the series). Louis was portrayed by Brad Pitt in the 1994 feature film.

BBC America is taking one last trip to A Wild Year on Earth on Saturday, February 27th at 8pm/7c.
The season finale, titled “Full Circle,” is set in the month of November.
It finds millions of migrating Monarch butterflies converging in the forests of Mexico for the winter, coinciding with the annual ritual of the ‘Day of the Dead’.
In dry Southern Africa, the rains finally returned and are welcomed by nesting birds. Meanwhile, in Australia, the warming waters trigger the annual coral spawning on the Great Barrier Reef.
The series has served as some much-needed respite from the world, especially in Covid-19 times.
With traveling still largely shutdown across the world, A Wild Year on Earth is probably the closest thing people will get to a vacation in the foreseeable future.
As such, there will be a hole on TV screens when the series wraps up, so we...

Fireball XL5
It’s always a gratifying feeling when Silva screen produces another title in their successful Gerry Anderson collection. This time around, they have focused on the 1962-63 series, Fireball XL5 (SILLP1595).
The black & white puppet television series followed the missions of Fireball XL5, a vessel of the World Space Patrol in the year 2062. Commanded by Colonel Steve Zodiac, XL5 travels the universe encountering alien civilisations and defending planet Earth from interstellar threats. It was produced, like most other Anderson productions, in Supermarionation, using puppetry techniques that captured the imagination of a generation.
The Fireball XL5 soundtrack has been newly compiled, mastered and designed by the creative and committed team at Fanderson – The Official Gerry And Sylvia Anderson Appreciation Society.
The album features 24 tracks from 16 episodes, including the Fireball XL5 main theme and single version. In the opening theme,...

Anderson Cooper's 7 month old son Wyatt Morgan is already a foodie. The CNN journalist told the Food Network's Ida Garten on the show Full Circle that Wyatt, who was born via surrogate earlier this year, is more open to new foods than his dad is. Anderson joked, "I have a palate of a 5 year old, but apparently a 7 month old has a much better palate." Wyatt's favorite cuisine includes lots of vegetables. "He's eating squash and broccoli and mashed cauliflower and mashed peas, none of which I would ever eat as a kid," Anderson shared. "And I'm so thankful that he is." Anderson isn't just a...

The first season of Lovecraft Country has concluded, and there’s no telling how long the wait will be for season two.
The finale, “Full Circle” directed by Nelson McCormick and written by showrunner Misha Green has left us with no shortage of questions about the future of the series, especially when it comes to the finale’s three major deaths. Is Tic (Jonathan Majors) really gone? How about Christina (Abbey Lee) and Ruby (Wunmi Mosaku), also killed in the finale? What about ...

How interesting that two of my favorite pieces of pop culture made by Black women about literal Black girl magic both star Jurnee Smollett: the underappreciated 1997 independent film “Eve’s Bayou” and the 2020 HBO drama series “Lovecraft Country.” The two projects are markedly different, but have in common their fiercely committed lead performances by Smollett.
SEEAwards spotlight: Jessie Buckley stuns as a disarmingly maniacal nurse in ‘Fargo’ season 4
Smollett was only 11 when “Eve’s Bayou” opened, and she won a Critics’ Choice Award for Best Child Performance for playing the title character, who puts a curse on her father (Samuel L. Jackson) after hearing that he tried to molest her sister (Meagan Good). Directed by Kasi Lemmons, that film was a powerful exploration of a child struggling to understand adult betrayals, and it all rests on the actress’s young shoulders.

This article contains spoilers for Lovecraft Country episode 10.
In the end, Lovecraft Country was all about legacy. The show follows Atticus “Tic” Freeman from estranged son and war vet to literal Magic Negro, and heir to a magical birthright. Tic, his father Montrose, friend-then-lover Letitia “Leti” Lewis, and her sister Ruby Baptiste become entangled with magic and the racist white folks who wield it. Tic seeks to understand and utilize the power inherent in his blood, and in doing so, is forced to face horror after horror in pursuit of his goal.
The Lovecraft Country finale, “Full Circle” packs a lot of information into its runtime. And while a lot of that doesn’t ultimately serve the central narrative, there is still plenty to explore. Here is how Lovecraft Country ends.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains details of tonight’s Lovecraft Country Season 1 finale

Based on Matt Ruff’s 2016 novel of the same name, the Green, Jordan Peele and J.J. Spoiler Alert: This article contains details about Sunday night’s season finale of Lovecraft Country.
Ever since Misha Green unleashed the wonder that is Lovecraft Country to the world in August, she, along with an all-star roster of writers and directors has immersed us in the Lccu: The Lovecraft Country Cinematic Universe. The series played out like an anthology of sorts that connect to create a 10-hour movie. Pinpointing the bloodiest, most batshit moment of any “Lovecraft Country” episode, let alone the finale’s, is an exercise only for those with stomachs of steel — likely literal steel, given the frank show we’re talking about. But with hands over our eyes, let’s look back at the finale’s final death for just a second: Diana (Jada Harris), wielding the furious power of her cousin’s Black shoggoth, walks up to the half-crushed body of Christina Braithwhite (Abbey Lee) and stares down at trapped villainess. Christina pleads with the teenage girl to save her; hoping, even expecting the young Black woman to help this once invulnerably privileged white lady — even though Christina just murdered Diana’s dear friend and family member, Tic (Jonathan Majors).

Lovecraft Country Episode 10
Tic recites the spell to open the Book of Names, then he and Leti fall unconscious. Their subconscious/spirits are brought to an ancestral plane and it’s there they learn the truth about magic from the ancestors. They are tasked with casting Hannah’s spell, which will use Christina’s spell against her to take magic from the Braithwhites. The ancestors help Tic and Leti heal Dee, then send them back to their bodies to enact their plan.
The season finale of Lovecraft Country is entertaining but emotionally hollow. Maybe it’s the fact that the nine preceding episodes have thrown us into the fire —literally— and put us and the characters through some of the worst racial violence in the history of this country. Or perhaps, it’s that our heroes have already proven their capacity to persist, so...
