There’s something deeply uncanny about Hulu’s “How I Met Your Father.” Billed as a “sequel” to the smash CBS sitcom “How I Met Your Mother,” but acting more like a spinoff entry in the “Himym” cinematic universe, “How I Met Your Father” plays out like a millennial MadLib rather than a show all its own. Despite the constant reminders that “How I Met Your Father” takes place in 2022 — both from Hilary Duff as the lovelorn “I” and Kim Cattrall (very game here) as the same character narrating from her 2050 future— its every “modern” reference and joke setup still feel at least five years out of date. That, plus its commitment to the original “How I Met Your Mother” combination of soft punchlines leading to a loud laugh track, makes “How I Met Your Father” one of the more downright disorienting series in recent memory.

Berlanti Productions is beefing up its senior executive ranks with the hire of Erika Kennair and Jonathan Gabay as SVPs of development.
Kennair, most recently VP comedy development at ABC, and Gabay, most recently Svp comedy development and programming at Fox, fill an Svp development vacancy at Berlanti Prods. left by the departure of Ryan Lindenberg who has joined Erik Feig’s new company Picturestart. The appointment of two executives stems from the rapid expansion Berlanti Prods.’ slate has undergone over the past few years to a record 15 live-action series currently on the air.
As for Kennair and Gabay coming off comedy jobs as they join Berlanti Prods., whose portfolio is dominated by drama series, both also have drama backgrounds and their hires was a result of principals Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter seeking rising star executives regardless of specialty.
“We are beyond excited to bring Erika and Jonathan into the Berlanti Productions family.

Legendary character actor Keith David has joined the cast of Marvel's upcoming series New Warriors! This will reunite David with showrunner Kevin Biegel. They worked together on the 2014 series Enlisted.
According to THR, David will take on the role of Ernest Vigman, "a caustic municipal employee who butts up against the hopeful energy of the new warriors." This will be a reoccurring role in the series. I'm such a huge fan of David and his work whose film career pretty much started with John Carpenter's The Thing.
David will join Milana Vayntrub (This Is Us) as Squirrel Girl; Derek Theler (Baby Daddy) as Mister Immortal; Jeremy Tardy (Dear White People) as Night Thrasher; Calum Worthy (Austin and Ally) as Speedball; Matthew Moy (Two Brok Girls) as Microbe; Kate Comer as Debrii.

Here at Et, we’re obsessed with a lot of things -- and for the week of Feb. 13 to Feb. 19, this is what we’re most excited about:
Why We’re Obsessed With ‘Imposters’
Now in its second week, Bravo’s new scripted series tells the story of a con artist named Maddie (Inbar Lavi), whose unwitting victims (Ron Heaps, Enlisted’s Parker Young, who promises to Et that he’ll be shirtless before the end of the first season, and Marianne Rendon) decide to track her down. What starts off as a game of cat and mouse quickly turns into a road trip comedy as Ezra, Richard and Jules all learn to bond, but also try their hand at some small-time cons. “But we’re not very good at it,” Heaps says of his character’s adventures, while adding that the show is full of intrigue, heartbreak and surprise, the biggest...

“One Day at a Time” executive producer Gloria Calderon Kellett can’t be boxed in. The writer, producer and even performer has written countless plays, has worked on multi-camera sitcoms (“Rules of Engagement”), single-camera comedies (“How I Met Your Mother”), hour-long dramas (“iZombie,” “Devious Maids”) and more.
Now, along with Mike Royce (“Men of a Certain Age,” “Enlisted”) and the legendary Norman Lear, Calderon Kellett is behind Netflix’s new take on Lear’s “One Day at a Time.”
Together they have come up with a new show that has won over critics, most of whom are predisposed to hate remakes and reboots.
The basic concept of the new “One Day at a Time” remains the same: A single mother raising her teenage kids. But a lot is different.

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: Which showrunner would you like to invite to Thanksgiving dinner and why?
Liz Shannon Miller (@lizlet), IndieWire
Think what you will of her shows (personally, I think Season 1 of “Scandal” is a modern classic), but Shonda Rhimes is a delight. After reading her recent book “The Year of Yes,” I’ve been semi-obsessed with Shonda’s (I feel like I can call her Shonda) wit, confidence, and positive outlook. I’d like to believe that if Shonda said yes to dinner, she’d be a lively force at the table, a help in the kitchen before and after, and damn right she’d bring some incredible wine with her to share.

20 years ago today, “Jumanji” had its theatrical release. Though the film had lukewarm reaction from critics, it was a box office success and has remained a favorite among family adventure movies. The film is based on Chris Van Allsburg’s children’s book about a game that’s “a young people's jungle adventure especially designed for the bored and restless.” It’s at once terrifying (those monkeys!) and funny (plenty of laughs supplied by the late Robin Williams) and touching (the relief and joy in Williams’ face when he realizes this nightmare of a game is finally over). A remake is in the works and set for a Christmas 2016 release. Arrow Season 4, Episode 5 “Haunted”

Airs Wednesdays at 8pm Et on The CW
It’s odd to think the star of a canceled NBC series would kick start Arrow‘s fourth season to life – it’s not really a promising sign when a one-off guest star outshines the presence of nearly everyone else on the cast, embodying the lighter, more agile personality the rest of the show’s struggled to adopt early in season four. Regardless of what it may say about the show’s long-term prospects for recovery, a little Hellblazer goes a long way: “Haunted” is a much better episode than it has any right to be, which can only be attributed to the presence of the magical, wise-cracking John Constantine.
