HBO’s Succession made its first appearance in Nielsen’s streaming rankings on the heels of its final season premiere.
The Emmy-winning show had 480 million minutes of watch time on HBO Max for the week of March 27-April 2 (it premiered on March 26). The premiere set what was then a first-night ratings record for Succession (since surpassed by other episodes this season), and a sizable portion of the viewing on HBO Max in the following was likely for that episode. Nielsen counts all available episodes of a show in calculating its streaming totals.
Netflix’s The Night Agent spent its second straight week as the No. 1 overall title in the rankings. The espionage thriller grew by about 18 percent over its premiere week to 3.06 billion minutes of viewing, lapping the field. Two other Netflix titles, Love Is Blind (1.24 billion minutes) and the movie Murder Mystery 2 (1.12 billion), also crossed the billion-minute mark.

The much-anticipated end to Netflix’s fan favorite “The Last Kingdom” debuted this week, one year after the believed-to-be final chapter of the original series aired in March of 2022. In a sign of ongoing interest to experiment with both release and format models, Netflix’s decision to bring Uhtred, played by Alexander Dreymon, and team back for a feature-length film has delivered another hit for the streamer with more than one million homes tuning into the premiere, driving the film to the No. 2 spot on the streaming charts, according to the latest Wrap Report for the week of April 12-18.
The report tracks the most-watched programs across linear TV and streaming, according to viewership trends collected from Samba TV’s panel of more than 3 million households drawn from over 25 million connected TVs, balanced to the U.S. Census.

Nielsen figures for The Night Agent confirm what Netflix’s internal data already said: The thriller had a very good opening week. Daisy Jones & The Six also made its chart debut for the week of its finale on Prime Video.
The Night Agent racked up 2.6 billion minutes of viewing time in the United States for the week of March 20-26 (it premiered on March 23). That’s equal to 43.4 million hours, or just over a quarter of the 168.71 hours of worldwide viewing Netflix reported for that week. It had more than double the viewing time of any other title Nielsen measures for the week; Shadow and Bone finished second overall with 1.03 billion minutes.

“The Night Agent” debuted in the top position of Nielsen’s streaming rankings for the week of March 20-26. The Netflix political thriller was watched for 2.6 billion minutes in its first four days of availability, which according to Nielsen, makes it the 38th most watched streaming title in a measurement since 2020.
While impressive, the news is unsurprising — the series has soared on the Netflix Top 10, which publishes immediately following each viewing window, rather than with Nielsen’s four-week delay. By Netflix’s own measurement, “The Night Agent” has already become the streamer’s sixth most popular English-language series of all time.
Interestingly, Nielsen says that “The Night Agent” is the oldest-skewing title on the list this week, with 60% of viewers over age 50.
At No. 2 was the Netflix fantasy series “Shadow and Bone,” which returned for its second season on March 16. The series was watched for 1 billion minutes in its first full week of availability.

On April 15, 2013, two homemade pressure cooker bombs detonated near the finish line of the Boston Marathon route, killing three people and injuring hundreds of others. The brazen act of terrorism would lead to an intense four-day manhunt throughout eastern Massachusetts that would ultimately lead to the capture of one of the perpetrators and the death of the other.
The story of the Boston Marathon Bombing, as it would come to be known, is characterized by both the gritty resilience of the city that endured it and the unprecedented tactics that law enforcement would undertake to bring those involved to justice. At first, the tragedy that is explored in the Netflix documentary Waco: America Apocalypse might seem far removed from the Oklahoma City bombing. Nobody came out of the 1993 Waco tragedy looking good. Not David Koresh, the messianic religious/cult leader who stockpiled illegal weapons and married underage girls in order to spread his seed for a coming apocalypse. Not the Atf, which went ahead with its raid on Koresh’s Branch Davidian compound despite knowing that they were expected, eliminating any element of surprise. And not the FBI, whose hostage rescue and negotiation teams were constantly at odds over both means and ends. In the end, 86 people – 82 Davidians and four Atf agents – were killed.

From Feb. 28 through April 19 of that year, agents of the state including the FBI, Atf, Texas law enforcement, and the U.S. military occupied the premises of a Waco, Texas-area property belonging to the Branch Davidians, a heavily-armed religious cult. The 51-day siege began with an exchange of gunfire that led to the death of four federal agents and six Davidians and ultimately it would end in violence as well – as a conflagration of unclear origin eventually engulfed the group’s Mount Carmel compound, killing 76 people including their leader David Koresh.
As one might expect from a story that combines the American pastimes of religious extremism, overzealous law enforcement, gunfights, and explosions, the Waco Siege looms large in the American consciousness. Over the years,...

Jim Cavanaugh and Gary Noesner were two key special agents involved in the infamous 51-day standoff documented in Waco: American Apocalypse. The three-part Netflix series premieres Wednesday, March 22, and in the TV Insider exclusive clip above, the former Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (Atf) and FBI agents detail their change in command that nearly curtailed all negotiations with cult leader David Koresh. You can’t look away from Waco: American Apocalypse, an immersive three-part revisiting of the tragedy that took place outside Waco, Texas, in 1993. After a 51-day siege at the compound of the cultlike Branch Davidian religious group, 82 congregants, including 25 children, perished in flames, seemingly at the behest of their leader, David Koresh. (Credit: Courtesy of Netflix) A warrant had been issued for Koresh, whose group had been stockpiling illegal weapons. Word came of his hold on fellow Davidians, of his having sex with women and girls. An attempt to seize him led to four agents being killed in a shoot-out. Asked if he put his trust in the Lord, Koresh answered, “I am the Lord.” But this astonishing series also points to bungling by FBI agents in charge that turned a powder-keg situation into something explosive. One agent was “brutally honest about the [bureau’s] failings” in interviews, recalls director Tiller Russell.

The official trailer for “Waco: American Apocalypse,” a new documentary series about one of the bloodiest shootouts in American history, was released by Netflix on Wednesday.
The three-part docuseries tells the story of David Koresh, a cult leader who took control of the Branch Davidians religious sect in the late ’80s, claiming to be its final prophet. Allegations about polygamy and child sexual abuse on Koresh’s part surfaced in the years that followed, prompting the federal government to raid Koresh’s Mount Carmel Center compound near Waco, Texas on February 28, 1993, in a bloody siege that lasted for 51 days. The standoff was breathlessly captured on live television and ended in the deaths of 86 people — 4 FBI agents and 82 members of the cult including Koresh — and the destruction of the compound in a fire.
Released to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the siege, “American Apocalypse” is described by Netflix as “immersive” and featuring “cutting-edge visual technology.

March is a time for madness, whether it comes from basketball, Mercury retrograde, or a person’s home streaming habits. Netflix joins in on the chaos by updating its library with all three “Hangover” movies, a whole lot of workout content, “Magic Mike Xxl,” and much, much more.
On March 9, the streamer will premiere Part 2 of “You” Season 2, starring Penn Badgley, Charlotte Ritchie, and Ed Speleers. The five remaining episodes find Joe (Badgley) trapped in a volatile dance with London mayoral candidate and serial killer Rhys (Speleers), trying to prevent more murders but also not go down for the many he’s committed in the process. The trailer shows Joe and Kate (Ritchie) growing closer, more brushes with Kate’s wealthy socialite friends, and the return of Victoria Pedretti as Joe’s wife Love — or maybe the ghost of his wife, and of sins past.
