Filmed in a rough neighborhood in Toronto, and shooting nights to avoid daytime construction noise outside the location, people in the neighborhood welcomed the film crew because all the activity and lights kept criminals away.
The Director's Cut is 4 minutes shorter than the Festival Cut of the film, with the removal of various painting effects and the reworking of several scenes.
The masters of the film were lost, presumed destroyed, and the Technicolor Canada vault became inaccessible when Technicolor sold its Toronto operations. Fortunately, the director had kept a backup copy of the original Festival Cut of the film on a D5 tape, which was successfully transferred to a digital file by Fotokem, in Burbank, at which point the job of restoring and re-cutting the film commenced.
