Here's our tribute to one of the best action movies ever made: a story of Nicolas Cage, a plane and a toy bunny...
"Break out the fine china, chill the lemonade, tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree. Cos this boy's coming home to his ladies. Coming home forever."
Action cinema changed in 1999. The release of The Matrix unleashed a torrent of imitators, but also altered fundamentally the editing of movies in the genre. This came with a price. Action sequences became harder to follow. Character was relegated. The old style idea of pitting a movie star against some peril in extraordinary circumstances was seemingly less tempting. The Matrix had started something.
Well, that, or everyone just watched Con Air, and figured they couldn't top it. Because in truth, how could they? One of the most quotable, enjoyable and wildly entertaining blockbusters of the 1990s, I can't think...

There's nothing like the smell of freshly baked homemade bread. Action star Danny Trejo certainly agrees, and he has taken his love for all things dough just one step further in the weirdest video we've seen in a long while.
We introduce to you... Danny Trejo's Breadanimals.
Okay, it may all be a stunt for the release of Trejo's latest movie Bullet on DVD and Blu-ray, but that doesn't stop the video being totally baffling and brilliantly funny at the same time.
"I know what you're thinking. Danny Trejo, what are breadanimals?" he says at the start of the clip. That's just one thing we're thinking Danny.
It may be incredibly strange, but the brioche alligator and sourdough turtle do look pretty tasty.
Move over Paul Hollywood.

Interview Duncan Bowles 13 Mar 2014 - 06:29
Duncan catches up with the star of Bullet and Machete to talk about stunts, dancing, and Miss Piggy...
The last but one answer in this interview has a slight spoiler for Muppets Most Wanted.
If there’s one thing I discovered from our chat with Danny Trejo, it’s that he laughs a lot. For an actor who’s made a career out of playing bad asses whose actions speak louder than words, it was a strange thing to hear him so openly chuckling – when our call was connected I asked how he was doing and he replied “Great, we were just talking about Mel Brooks and Blazing Saddles – probably before your time, but it’s really funny!” and what followed was one of the most entertaining interviews I’ve ever done.
We were lucky enough to get a good amount of Mr Trejo’s time,...

To mark the release of Bullet (out now) on DVD and Blu-ray, we’ve been given 5 copies to give away on Blu-ray.
Danny Trejo (Machete) is Frank ‘Bullet’ Marasco, the toughest undercover cop in La. Whether busting bad guys on the streets or in the underground Mma, nothing’s off limits to get the job done. This no-holds-barred action thriller, packed with typical Trejo humour, sees the body count just keep rising as the hard-as-nails cop takes on a ruthless cartel in a race against time to save his family.
Years earlier Bullet put notorious drug baron Carlito Kane’s son behind bars. Now the ruthless Kane (Jonathan Banks, Breaking Bad) hatches a twisted plan to save him by kidnapping Bullet’s grandson – but he’s messed with the wrong guy! Kane and his men are about to learn that, when the stakes are high, all it takes is one Bullet.

Easily amongst the coolest and toughest actors in film, Danny Trejo is undoubtedly one of the most recognisable faces in the action genre today. With a variety of credits to his name including Desperado and Heat it comes as no surprise the veteran of the industry is still enjoying success today with the Machete franchise as well as other films. He even inspired us to look at ten of his compadres in the arena of cinematic badassery yesterday.
We chat with the man himself, a one-time resident of California’s infamous San Quentin prison, about his new film Bullet.
HeyUGuys: How does it feel to be a cult icon?
Well, you know they say I’ve gone from ex-con to icon. I’ve got to keep myself in check, I am just a worker. Everybody knows me from my job and it’s a blessing.

Danny Trejo, who is one of those actors who seems to exude an air of badassery, hits our screens again today with Bullet, a tale of a tough-as-nails cop hunting down the villains who kidnapped his grandson.
In everything from Desperado, through Con Air and Machete, Trejo’s characters seem to very much be those one would be ill-advised to mess with and Bullet’s tagline “this time they messed with the wrong guy” promises more of the same. Which segues quite nicely into this Top Ten of cinemas Badasses – those characters you just need to steer clear of, lest they decide to turn on you.
Most are notional protagonists, with a smattering of anti-heroes and the odd “bad guy” to round off the set – but none are to be trifled with. Here we go…………. (Spoilers Abound)
10. Snake Plissken – Escape from New York
An eye patch, a surly attitude and a general disregard for authority.

The Grand Budapest Hotel | 300: Rise Of An Empire | Wake In Fright | Paranoia | The Stag | Escape From Planet Earth
The Grand Budapest Hotel (15)
(Wes Anderson, 2014, UK/Ger) Ralph Fiennes, Tony Revolori, F Murray Abraham, Willem Dafoe, Saoirse Ronan. 100 mins
You wonder how long Anderson can keep accumulating star actors and creating ever more elaborate microcosms but, judging by this, he's a long way from running out of steam. It's a witty caper-within-a-reminiscence-within-a-flashback set in interwar Europe, through which Fiennes's debonair concierge must flee, protege lobby boy in tow, after an heiress's murder. It's breathlessly paced and breathtakingly designed, but with a solid core – like a fancy cake with an iron file concealed inside.
300: Rise Of An Empire (15)
(Noam Murro, 2014, Us) Sullivan Stapleton, Eva Green, Rodrigo Santoro. 102 mins
With the bar for violent historical silliness raised by Game Of Thrones, this sequel pitches recklessly into another orgy of fetishised classical warfare with comic-book effects.

Seasoned actor Danny Trejo has reinvented himself as the titular role in the Machete franchise, a series of films that ridicule B-movie, action flicks. However, despite evidently aware of the flaws and limitations of the genre, he’s now turned up in Nick Lyon’s Bullet, a film that is identical to those of which are being mocked in the aforementioned parody series.
When a dangerous criminal is on the verge of being executed by the death penalty, his father Carlito Kane (Jonathan Banks) is determined to put a stop to it – and so sets his sights on the law enforcer who arrested his son in the first place, which happens to be Frank Marasco (Trejo), a tough, uncompromising cop affectionately known as Bullet. With his trusty henchman Kruger (Torsten Voges) by his side, Kane kidnaps Bullet’s grandson, in the attempt to blackmail the cop – who has other plans up his sleeve.

There's nothing to be vain about in this Danny Trejo vanity project with no laughs, no interest and no surprises
Granite-faced tough-guy actor Danny Trejo got a new lease of life with the tongue-in-cheek grindhouse movies Machete and Machete Kills. Those at least had a bit of inventive bad taste. This is probably closer to the truth about grindhouse, without the patina of hipness and irony – it's just a terrible, lazy, cheapo-looking film with no laughs and no interest. Trejo plays a guy nicknamed "Bullet", an undercover La cop who gets things done by bending the rules and ignoring the red tape and the bullshit. He doesn't get violent unless it's warranted. But a bad guy kidnapping his grandson? That's warranted, my friend.
And so the rickety nonsense continues, with some desert scenes that have been vaguely borrowed from Breaking Bad – Jonathan Banks, playing the criminal kingpin, is from that show's cast.

Nick Lyon, the director of the forthcoming film, Bullet, isn't happy that Robert Rodriguez' American United Media (Aum) and FUNimation Entertainment have taken the film away from him. But a judge has ordered an injunction against his interference in the completion of the film, and now Lyon is taking the dispute to an appeals court. Bullet is a film that stars Danny Trejo (Machete, Breaking Bad) as a cop who takes the law into his own hands when his grandson is kidnapped. Rodriguez is a producer. Lyon (Punk Love) signed on to write and develop the project in September 2012.

Yep, Danny Trejo plays one hell of an angry cop in Nick Lyon‘s upcoming action thriller Bullet. But we forgive him, ’cause in case you’re not so familiar with the plot – his grandson is kidnapped by some sick bastards, so (quite logically) – he decides to take the law into his own hands. Head inside to check him out, and don’t forget: don’t mess with the wrong guy! Nick Lyon directs the movie (currently in post-production) from a script he co-wrote with Ron Peer, and the whole thing revolves around Trejo’s character – an undercover cop named Frank Bullet who takes on a ruthless...
