A portrait of an all too familiar problem

It's the all-too-familiar gay story of falling into unrequited love with one's best friend. It becomes especially obvious when that friend has chosen a sexual encounter with an older stranger than one's own company. What I found most remarkable is the restraint shown by the main character. Frankly it sets a good example for young LGBT people, that sometimes it is better to maintain a valuable friendship than ruin it with an ill-fated attempt at sex.

beautiful scenes, decent performances, slices of sensuality. and a sketch of script. refuge in well known tricks - alone on beach, the spoon of the friend, the looks and the small gestures and the open last scene.but each new element gives nothing to the coherence of story. sure, it could be perceived as a kind of essay. but something essential missing. and this change. everything. Jesuita Barbosa is isolated in his role. Victor Sousa gives an ordinary sketch of macho man. the scene of chocolate is almost a mistake because its potential is ignored. and this is it.

Very suggestive, very empty

"The Best Friend" or "O melhor amigo" is an 18-minute live action short film from Brazil. It is in Portuguese language, the cast are all Brazilians and the director, despite the English-sounding name, was also born in Brazil. That's why I have no clue why this film is listed with an English title here on IMDb. Anyway, the writer and director is Allan Deberton and he made this film in 2013, 3 years ago. Unfortunately, the fact that this is still his most known work says nothing good about him. This was a really bad films. They made sure to get as much male nudity (topless scenes) in here as possible, they used suggestive scenes like young men licking repeatedly and lasciviously on spoons, but while doing all this, they forgot to come up with a good script or intelligently written characters. Also, the actors are not good at all. This film can be described as a failure for many reasons and you should not watch it.
