We’re back with another edition of the Indie Spotlight, highlighting recent independent horror news sent our way. Today’s feature includes DVD release details for Shiver, information on the Mile High Horror Film Festival, an exclusive excerpt from Dead is Only Skin Deep, a Q&A with 13-year-old Emily Diprimio for Carver, and more:
Q&A Interview with Up-and-Coming 13-Year-Old Filmmaker Emily Diprimio
by Heather Wixson
It’s not often that you run across aspiring genre directors who are still in their teens so when we discovered a brand new Kickstarter campaign for Carver, an upcoming indie slasher from the filmmaking team of Ron Diprimio and his 13-year-old daughter Emily Diprimio, we immediately took notice.
In the campaign, the Diprimios’ describe Carver as, “a throwback 80’s style slasher that follows a group of teenagers who are haunted by a despicable act they committed on Halloween when they were younger.

Even though Halloween fever is currently on everyone's minds (and rightly so), after it passes, the holidays will be right around the corner. Might as well start your planning so that they're as full of mayhem as they are mirth, and Bloody Christmas looks to be a great starting point!
From the Press Release
In the grand tradition of holiday horrors (Halloween, April Fool's Day, Happy Birthday to Me) comes Bloody Christmas, a new film from Long Island filmmaker Michael Shershenovich, available via Planetworks and Mvd on October 23rd. The film offers a unique experience by shying away from a typical slasher and drifting into stylish cinematography, all while not taking the subject matter too seriously.
Paul Awful of Movies From Mars writes:
"One scene that stands out visually is a dream sequence (or should I say nightmare) which was shot on 16mm that gets the audience inside a demented and damaged Santa Clause mind.

Sometimes you just need some sleazy horror in your diet. I crave this sort of cinema in the way that pregnant women crave pickles and peanut butter. I’m really not even sure what that means. Writer/director James Balsamo’s upcoming over-the-top horror offering “I Spill Your Guts” seems to fit the proverbial bill quite nicely. In addition to a cameo by Lloyd Kaufman — the indie genre’s filmmaker’s best friend — the flick also sports an appearance from Debbie Rochon. Don’t pretend you’re not salivating right now. Don’t even. A synopsis is head your way: Two friends Dennis and Joe join the military together. While on a routine mission, the two are quickly surrounded by enemy fire. When Joe stands up in the line of fire to run, Dennis pushes him out of the way and takes a bullet in the throat. Dennis wakes up...
