Star Wars fans who attended last April's Star Wars Celebration in London were treated to a first look at Skeleton Crew. However, more than a year later, Lucasfilm still hasn't released any of that content online (including the trailer which seemingly confirmed Jude Law is playing a Jedi).
What we do know is that the series takes place around the same time as The Mandalorian, with the expectation being that it will tie into the post-Return of the Jedi era of storytelling. How important it's going to be to the wider franchise and Dave Filoni's eventual crossover movie remains to be seen.
In the meantime, some leaked Skeleton Crew merchandise - first shared on SFFGazette.com - has offered a new look at the show's leads.

Buyers at the Cannes Market were going bananas for Stephen King adaptation The Monkey, with the bidding war eventually being won out by Neon. While no financial details were made available, Deadline reports that the studio is aiming for a 2025 release.
Filming on The Monkey – which was first published in 1980 and subsequently reprinted in the essential King short story collection Skeleton Crew – wrapped in March. Directed by Oz Perkins (son of Anthony and whose Longlegs is also being distributed by Neon), the movie is notably produced by James Wan and features a cast of Theo James, Elijah Wood, Tatiana Maslany, Sarah Levy, Rohan Campbell, Christian Convery, and Colin O’Brien.
For those unfamiliar with Stephen King’s short story, The Monkey has the following plot: “When twin brothers Hal and Bill discover their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths starts occurring all around them.

Recently, however, SFX Magazin reported that Mangold’s new movie will be titled “Star Wars: Jedi Prime.’ This wasn’t confirmed in an official sense but due to the credibility of the source it’s as good as confirmed.

Three horror powerhouses are coming together for The Monkey, an adaptation of the Stephen King story that’s being produced by James Wan and directed by Osgood Perkins.
Deadline reports this weekend that Neon has acquired the movie “following a multi-buyer tug of war,” further establishing themselves as horror powerhouses in their own right.
“Multiple U.S. distributors came in hot for the project after its newest promo [in Cannes] and we hear a deal settled in the high seven figures,” Deadline notes in their report.
You can expect Neon to release The Monkey sometime in 2025.
The Monkey is a short horror story that appeared in Skeleton Crew, a 1985 collection that also featured The Mist, The Jaunt, The Raft, Survivor Type, The Reach, and more.
Theo James (The White Lotus) stars alongside Tatiana Maslany (She–Hulk: Attorney at Law), Elijah Wood (Maniac), Christian Convery (Sweet Tooth), Colin O’Brien (Wonka), Rohan Campbell (Halloween Ends...

Later this year, a new ‘Star Wars’ show is set to debut on Disney+ called “Skeleton Crew,” which “follows the journey of four kids who make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, then get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy. Finding their way home—and meeting unlikely allies and enemies—will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined.”
Now, we have learned that Lucasfilm is taking the show back to the old techniques used in the original Star Wars films, including matte paintings from a retired Ilm (Industrial Light and Magic) painter and even stop-motion animation from Phil Tippett.
For those who don’t know, Phil Tippett helped create a special animation technique called “go motion” to animate the At-at walkers and tauntauns in “The Empire Strikes Back,” and he led the creature shop in “Return of the Jedi.”

Skeleton Crew is arguably one of the more intriguing Star Wars projects heading our way, with very little known about how the series will fit into the wider Galaxy Far, Far Away (we've heard next to nothing since Star Wars Celebration attendees were treated to a brief sneak peek last April).
What we do know is that the Disney+ series focuses on a group of kids who get lost in space, with Jude Law cast in the lead role as a mysterious Jedi. With a confirmed post-Return of the Jedi setting, we also anticipate it somehow tying into The Mandalorian and Ahsoka.
Collider (via SFFGazette.com) recently spoke with director and executive producer Jon Watts and learned that Skeleton Crew is set to launch this holiday season. That presumably means a December launch.

When Marvel Studios enlisted Jon Watts to direct Spider-Man: Homecoming, he was a relative unknown. The filmmaker had helmed the low-budget Clown and Cop Car, but neither of those necessarily suggested he was a good fit to bring the wall-crawler into the MCU.
Like Sam Raimi and Marc Webb before him, Watts proved his detractors wrong by delivering a movie which scored glowing reviews and a spectacular $880.2 million at the worldwide box office.
Spider-Man: Far From Home followed two years later and earned over $1.1 billion, and when Spider-Man: No Way Home eventually swung into theaters, it grossed a jaw-dropping $1.9 billion.
After devoting several years of his life to Spider-Man, Watts decided he needed a break from the MCU and gave up the chance to next take charge of The Fantastic Four. He's since shifted focus to upcoming Star Wars TV series, Skeleton Crew, and a new director will be brought on board for Spider-Man 4.

Kerry Condon (“The Banshees of Inisherin”), William H. Macy and Clifton Collins Jr. have joined director Clint Bentley’s “Train Dreams,” Variety has learned.
Production on the film, from Black Bear and also starring Joel Edgerton and Felicity Jones, began earlier this month in Spokane, Wash.
“Train Dreams” is the sweeping and poignant tale of Robert Grainier (Edgerton), a day laborer employed as a logger helping to expand the railways across America. Forced to spend prolonged periods of time away from his wife, Gladys (Jones), and their young daughter, Grainier struggles to make sense of his place in a rapidly changing world. As his story unfolds, he experiences great love, unspeakable loss, and unique bonds on a journey that is both distinct and universal. The picture features a script by Bentley and Greg Kwedar (“Sing Sing”), which is adapted from Denis Johnson’s iconic, Pulitzer Prize-nominated novella of the same name.

It’s so great. I don’t even have kids, but I’d pay to see this. I loved it. I loved being on it. There was something about it that was so innocent and playful and lovely. People say don’t work with kids or animals, but I don’t know about that.

‘Star Wars: Skeleton Crew’ is the name of an upcoming live-action series that will expand the Star Wars universe. The series is currently scheduled for a 2024 premiere on Disney+ (no release date has been given at this point) and was created by the duo consisting of Jon Watts and Christopher Ford.
The series will follow a group of children, most likely Force-sensitive, who will have to go on an adventure if they want to return to their home planet, from which they got lost after a strange discovery.
Kerry Condon, ‘Skeleton Crew’ actress recently commented on the show, saying how surprised she was to take work with children, and how different this production is from anything we’ve seen in Star Wars:

From venue changes and the pandemic to political backlash and the threat of litigation, Salem Horror Fest founder and director Kay Lynch has never been one to back down. The festival’s seventh annual event, which kicked off last night at Salem’s Peabody Essex Museum, was further proof of her resilience.
After its original headliner, Hocus Pocus star Kathy Najimy, canceled with less than 48 hours notice, the festival’s entire opening night ceremony was restructured. On lieu of the original $50 ticket charge, the program was made free (with the option to make a donation), costing the festival an untold amount of money.
But the show must go on — and it did so in spectacular fashion with horror icon Linnea Quigley sitting down for a live interview, while the Hocus Pocus screening was replaced by The People’s Joker, previously scheduled to be the festival’s closing film.

Having won a BAFTA (and landed an Oscar nomination) for her role as Colin Farrell’s kind-hearted but cynical — and distinctly less donkey-friendly — sister in Martin McDonagh’s darkly comic “The Banshees of Inisherin,” Kerry Condon is back in her native Ireland for her next film role.
Set in the height of the Troubles in the mid-1970s, Robert Lorenz’s Irish Western “In the Land of Saints and Sinners,” which launches on Netflix Friday, sees the actress ditch all niceties to play a hard-nosed, mean-as-hell, extremely potty-mouthed and very violent Ira gang leader trying to lie low in rural Donegal following a deadly pub bombing. But it’s not long before she’s up against Liam Neeson, whose demeanor as a quiet widow and secondhand book dealer masks a secret identity as a local hitman for Colm Meaney’s village mobster. There’s never been a better time to be a Star Wars fan in terms of quantity. There’s more Star Wars on screen and on the page now than ever before in the franchise’s history. From Disney+ series to video games to The High Republic books and Marvel comics, you can experience new adventures in the galaxy far, far away pretty much any way you want it right now. If Lucasfilm were able to get some movies off the ground, we’d be able to say that the franchise is firing on all cylinders.
Whether or not we finally do get some new Star Wars on the big screen in the years to come, the future of the franchise is still very bright, thanks to TV series like The Mandalorian, which has already expanded across multiple spinoffs full of Original Trilogy nostalgia and exciting new characters. A Stephen King horror story about a malevolent (sort of) doll almost sounds like something that could've been written specifically for James Wan to turn into a movie. But while the filmmaker behind "Saw," "Insidious," "The Conjuring," and "Malignant" is indeed involved in adapting "The Monkey" -- a short story King wrote for Gallery magazine in 1980 before later including it in his 1985 collection "Skeleton Crew" -- for the screen, he's only lending his services as a producer.
Instead, "The Monkey" is being written and directed by Osgood "Oz" Perkins, son of "Psycho" actor Anthony Perkins and the mind behind such creepily atmospheric and inventively stylized horror pictures as "The Blackcoat's Daughter," "I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House," and "Gretel & Hansel". Osgood Perkins is also currently riding high thanks to the buzz around "Longlegs," his upcoming occult serial killer horror-thriller that boasts one of the most intriguing trailers in recent memory.

Fast & Furious and Star Trek: Beyond director Justin Lin is reportedly among the names sought by Marvel and Sony to direct Spider-Man 4.
Director Justin Lin has plenty of experience when it comes to action and special effects-filled franchises, given he’s made several entries in the Fast & Furious franchise. But he also has form when it comes to taking up the reigns of a film series from a departing director; in 2016, he took took over from JJ Abrams to direct Star Trek: Beyond.
We bring this up because, according to a report from Hollywood industry gossip wizard Jeff Sneider (via The Playlist), Lin is among the directors said to be ‘in contention’ to take over the Spider-Man franchise. The rumour goes that Lin has joined Drew Goddard, who made the cult horror Cabin In The Woods, as a potential director for what we’ll call Spider-Man 4 for now.

In 2024, Disney is set for changes. Following a string of underperforming MCU releases in 2023, Bob Iger emphasized a shift towards prioritizing quality over quantity in their content production. With over 20 MCU projects in various stages of development and numerous Star Wars shows and movies in the pipeline, many announced during the 2023 Star Wars Celebration event, Disney+ has now confirmed several of these upcoming projects. Most are slated for release in 2024. Let’s take a look at what’s in store.
1. ‘X-Men ’97’ — March 20

2024 is bound to be a year of change, at least as far as Disney goes. After several big-budget MCU productions failed in 2023 and were met with a lukewarm reception, Bob Iger himself stated that they will definitely focus on quality over quantity in the future and will scale down their content production. We also know that there are over 20 MCU projects in development or rumored to be in development, and the Star Wars universe also has a full slate of upcoming shows & movies, most of them announced during the 2023 Star Wars Celebration event. Now in recent news, Disney+ confirmed several of those upcoming projects, and most of them are scheduled to be released in 2024 let’s see what they are:

Those days now seem long gone, as what started out as a smaller-scale Western set in the world of Star Wars, between the Original and Sequel Trilogies, has now become the hope for the future of the franchise on the big screen. The characters will now be the focus of the next Star Wars movie. Directed by Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian & Grogu is currently expected to release in 2026. Does this mean we won’t be seeing the beloved duo on screen at all until then? Or will a potential season 4 of the show bridge the gap on Disney+? It’s a question that has eluded Star Wars fans since the film project was first announced.

Stephen King's "The Mist" was first published in 1980 as part of his "Dark Forces" anthology and later added to 1985's "Skeleton Crew," a dynamic collection that featured 18 short stories, two poems, and two novellas. The real source of terror in "The Mist" is the tentacled Lovecraftian beasts that roam around the town of Bridgton, along with the increasingly violent divide amongst the local townsfolk (who abandon reason and give into panic). This heightened sense of paranoia that tears the small community apart is the focal point of Frank Darabont's "The Mist" film adaptation, where the creatures appear less monstrous than those gripped by religious frenzy or collective angst that manifests in unspeakably ugly ways.
In both King's novella and Darabont's movie, these events are triggered by a storm that is only a precursor to the chaotic turmoil that is about to unfold in the otherwise peaceful American town.

Despite our best predictions with our 2024 TV preview, perhaps a little on the early side, when Disney finally revealed its 2024 Disney+ slate, in spite of four Lucasfilm projects on the docket for this year, Tony Gilroy’s “Andor” starring Diego Luna wasn’t one of them.
