Before his Stranger Things fame, David Harbour did many small and significant character roles in several films and TV series. Steven Spielberg’s War of the Worlds was one project he could never forget due to a major disappointment. If you don’t remember seeing him in the sci-fi flick starring Tom Cruise, that’s because he was cut from the film. While Harbour accepted his fate, he was probably hurt by the fact that Spielberg had no memory of working with him in the film.
Black Widow star David Harbour revealed his unfortunate encounter with director Steven Spielberg
Harbour has two major projects in his current slate. He will reprise his Red Guardian role from Marvel’s Black Widow in the upcoming film Thunderbolts*. Harbour has also started filming his fan-favorite role as Jim Hopper for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things.

Exclusive: After successfully launching the Extraction film franchise at Netflix, director Sam Hargrave has his eyes set on another potential franchise with a piece of IP that is revving its engines to get out the gate. Sources tell Deadline that Skydance and Mattel Films have closed a deal with Hargrave to direct a live-action movie based on Matchbox, Mattel’s iconic real-world die-cast toy vehicle line. David Coggeshall and Jonathan Tropper are penning the script.
Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Don Granger will produce alongside Robbie Brenner for Mattel Films. The project will be shepherded by Aimee Rivera for Skydance and Elizabeth Bassin and Andrew Scannell for Mattel Films.
The iconic Matchbox brand was invented in 1953 by automotive enthusiast Jack Odell to solve a challenge for his daughter, who was allowed to take a toy to school only if it was small enough to fit in a matchbox.

When done well, found footage horror makes for one of the most immersive and unnerving viewing experiences. The inherent naturalism tends to make the horror feel more plausible and real. Found footage horror doesn’t need a huge budget or recognizable names among the cast to induce chills, either, and the lo-fi visuals only further add to the scares.
This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to found footage horror movies that excel with the format, delivering unsettling atmosphere and scares while making the most of their immersive, lo-fi aesthetics. Here’s where you can stream them this week.

British actor Joseph Gatt, 52, known for his roles in Game of Thrones and Thor, has filed a $40 million lawsuit against Los Angeles County, its district attorney, an LAPD detective and others for false accusations that he was a pedophile.
In 2022, Gatt was arrested and charged with alleged sexual communication with a minor. However, the charges were later dropped, and Gatt vehemently denied the accusations and described them as “utterly baseless.”
The lawsuit alleges that Gatt’s arrest was the result of the actions of an “obsessed” 16-year-old fan. Gatt asserts that he had no knowledge of the teenager and had never met her. In October 2020, a friend of the fan purchased a Cameo video message from Gatt, in which he wished her a happy birthday. Following this, the fan repeatedly messaged Gatt over social media, and he responded in a manner that was “wholly appropriate and consistent with typical celebrity-fan exchanges.

“Game of Thrones” actor Joseph Gatt has sued Los Angeles County, its district attorney and more for falsely claiming he was a pedophile after being arrested and charged with alleged sexual communication with a minor in 2022. The charge was later dropped, and he’s now calling the arrest “utterly baseless” in his lawsuit for $40 million.
Gatt filed the lawsuit Thursday and is suing L.A. County District Attorney George Gascón, Los Angeles County, L.A. County Deputy District Attorney Angela Brunson, LAPD Detective Denos Amarantos and the City of Los Angeles.
The lawsuit is claiming a “shocking and intentional destruction of Joseph Gatt’s acting career and personal reputation by Los Angeles County law enforcement personnel that resulted from a thoroughly botched criminal investigation, entirely lacking any probable cause, led by an obviously conflicted Deputy District Attorney who sought to destroy Gatt based on nothing more than bias and personal animosity.

Almost two years after Joseph Gatt was arrested by the LAPD on now-dismissed charges of engaging in “online sexually explicit communication with a minor across state lines,” the Game of Thrones actor is taking on the police, the city of Los Angeles and the office of District Attorney George Gascón.
In a $40 million suit filed Thursday in federal court in Los Angeles (read it here), Gatt alleges he was falsely labeled as serial pedophile. To that end, he and his attorneys have put before the court a sordid saga of a 16-year-old “obsessed fan,” a botched police probe, and a now former Deputy L.A. D.A. with a supposed “personal animosity” against the actor.

Jeff Daniels contemplates life and death in a teaser trailer and first-look images for A Man in Full
“When you die, will people notice,” Charlie Croker (Jeff Daniels) asks in Netflix‘s teaser trailer for the upcoming limited series A Man in Full. The question is as old as time and something people often ask themselves when contemplating a swift exit from this mortal coil. What would prompt a real estate mogul to have such macabre thoughts? His bankruptcy and inevitable downfall, of course.
Here’s the official synopsis for A Man in Full courtesy of Netflix:
When Atlanta real estate mogul Charlie Croker faces sudden bankruptcy, political and business interests collide as Charlie defends his empire from those attempting to capitalize on his fall from grace.
A Man in Full is based on the New York Times best-selling novel by the late Tom Wolfe, who died of an infection in Manhattan in 2018. The six-episode limited series hails from David E. Kelley Productions and Royal Ties Productions Inc.

New Zealand actor Antony Starr became a household name after starring as the deranged and overpowered Homelander in Amazon Prime Video’s The Boys. While Superman may be a sensitive subject for many following the decimation of the Dceu and a sense of excitement for others with the advent of the Dcu in the future, at the present moment, Jack Quaid is filling the gap for the absence of the Man of Steel on the big screen.

The cast of Peacock’s Teacup continues to grow.
Chaske Spencer has signed on to the horror thriller, which is inspired by Robert McCammon’s novel Stinger. The Echo star joins Yvonne Strahovski and Scott Speedman in the series from Universal Studio Group’s UCP and James Wan’s Atomic Monster.
As was the case with Strahovski’s and Speedman’s casting, most details on Spencer’s role are being kept under wraps for now. He’ll play a character named Ruben Shanley.
Teacup will follow a group of people in rural Georgia who must come together in the face of a mysterious threat in order to survive. The show’s setting departs from the novel, which took place in Texas. Peacock gave the project a series order in late 2022 after several months of development.

Exclusive: Chudor House Productions and Artist International Group are teaming on a series adaptation of Truth is a Flightless Bird, the internationally bestselling crime novel from Akbar Hussain.
Banshee‘s Adam Targum will serve as showrunner for the drama, with Odiri Iwuji at Chudor House and Aleksey Ageyev at Artist International Group producing. NneNne Iwuji (African Queens: Njinga) is set to co-write alongside Targum and will serve as an executive producer.
Set between Kenya and the U.S., Truth is a Flightless Bird is a brutal love letter to the frontier town that is present-day Nairobi: a studied observation of the failure of bare-knuckled capitalism, the inequality machines our cities have become, and — ultimately — the profoundly irrational human capacity to hope, to risk everything in order to have something in which to believe.

2023 was a year of sustained gains year-on-year across the Nordics, although moviegoing is still down 23%-30% from pre-covid times. The summer was exceptional thanks to the “Barbenheimer” mania that boosted all five Nordic countries. Iceland was the only territory where “Oppenheimer” ranked third, after the local comedy “Wild Game” one of three Icelandic titles that enabled local fare to jump 123% in box office for a 14% market share.
Norway enjoyed a solid year and a 27% market share for domestic fare, led by three blockbusters based on popular IPs, including the top seller “Christmas at Cobble Street.”
In Finland, the “Barbenheimer” phenomenon was perhaps the strongest among the Nordic nations, making July the biggest ever in Finnish cinema history. Also notable was the success of Aki Kaurismäki’s “Fallen Leaves,” the fourth biggest hit of the year, which helped local titles secure a 23.4% share.

[This story contains spoilers from the season finale of Lawmen: Bass Reeves.]
In the season finale of Lawmen: Bass Reeves, the audience witnessed a standoff between former Confederate soldier Esau Pierce (played by Barry Pepper) and the hero lawman Bass Reeves (Golden Globe-nominated David Oyelowo). While Esau seemed to see something admirable in Bass from their day-one encounter (when Reeves was still under the confines of slavery), an unfortunate turn of events toward the end of episode one would forever make Esau a mortal enemy in Bass’ eyes.
And it could not be any other way, says Chad Feehan, showrunner of the Paramount+ series. Having contributed to successful cable network shows such as Ray Donovan (Showtime) and Banshee (Cinemax), Feehan tells The Hollywood Reporter that his friend, executive producer Taylor Sheridan, introducing him to Oyelowo provided the right foundation for the trio to work together in producing what Feehan calls a long-overdue, extensive exploration of the law legend’s...

The revival of Warrior at Max turned out to be short-lived: The Warner Bros. Discovery streamer has canceled the show after its first season as a Max original and third overall.

Before getting out of the business of producing scripted content, Cinemax's lineup of shows was truly phenomenal.
The network brought great shows like Strikeback, Warrior (now on Max), and Banshee to life.
These shows were well-written, with great characters and stories. The action was top-tier, making action buffs weak on the knees with every sequence.
Banshee's narrative, storyline, direction, and enigmatic characters stood out. The show is one of the most underrated shows from the 2010s.
After seeing its lead male actor's phenomenal skills in a currently airing show, I was compelled to check up on the cast and see what they've been up to in the years since the show ended.

The role marks Hamm’s first starring role in an ongoing drama series since AMC’s Mad Men wrapped its seven-season run in 2015.
Your Friends and Neighbors, based on an original idea by Jonathan Tropper (See, Warrior, Banshee), revolves around Coop (Hamm), a recently divorced hedge fund manager who, after being fired, resorts to stealing from the wealthy residents in his tony upstate New York suburb in order to keep his family’s lifestyle afloat. The petty crimes begin to reinvigorate him until he breaks into the wrong house at the wrong time.
Tropper will serve as showrunner and exec produce via his overall deal with Apple.

It’s a full-blown holiday Hamm-aissance. Jon Hamm will next star in Apple TV+’s new drama series “Your Friends and Neighbors,” which he’ll also executive produce. The show is based on an idea from Jonathan Tropper, who is also showrunner on the project.
Americans are carving into freshly baked Hamm all over the place right now. Hamm is currently hamm-ing it up on Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show” and FX’s new season of “Fargo” — not to mention his upcoming animated Fox series “Grimsburg” (which he also EPs in addition to providing the lead voice) and Amazon Prime Video’s “Good Omens” earlier this year. Jon Hamm is what’s for TV dinner.
Hamm previously appeared in an Apple TV+ marketing spot, “Everyone But Jon Hamm.” That was clearly rectified. Now, Apple Studios is behind “Your Friend and Neighbors,” in which he’ll play the lead as Coop,...

Actor Julian Sands specific cause of death may never be officially determined, according to the San Bernardino County Coroner.
A spokesperson for the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department told multiple media outlets that the coroner’s conclusion regarding the cause of Sands’ passing is “undetermined due to the condition of the body and this is common when dealing with cases of this type.” CNN reported that the spokesperson also added, “This is the final determination.”
About a month ago, the San Bernardino County Sheriffs office confirmed that the human remains had been found in a remote wilderness area by hikers and were, indeed, those of the actor.

Midway through a sword fight in an upcoming episode of Max’s period action drama Warrior, one of the combatants loses her blade and seems on the verge of death at the hands of the man she wants revenge against. He’s so confident in his abilities, though, that he invites her to pick up her weapon and resume, smugly telling her, “You came all this way. It would be a shame to give up now.”
For a while, it seemed that the TV business had given up on Warrior.

The worst has been confirmed by THR: Julian Sands, the unforgettable star of the horror classic Warlock, is dead. The actor vanished in January when hiking in the Mount Baldy wilderness outside of L.A. Recently, hikers found a body, and, as expected, its identity was confirmed as Sands. It’s a sad but not unexpected end for one of the most high-profile missing persons cases in recent years, and hopefully, his remains being identified will give his family peace. It sounds like a tragic accident, with Sands being a renowned outdoorsman and avid hiker. It took this long to find and identify him because, until recently, the area suffered the effects of unusually severe weather.
Of course, Sands is an icon to the horror community thanks to his star role in Warlock and its sequel, Warlock: The Armageddon. He also had roles in many other movies, with him initially...

After six months of searching, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s office confirmed today that the human remains found earlier this week by hikers were, indeed, those of actor Julian Sands. He had been missing since mid-January.
The statement (read it below) says his cause of death is still pending, but Sands was an experienced hiker who loved the outdoors.
The positive identification comes less than a week after Sands’ family issued their first statement on the matter, saying they are “deeply grateful to the search teams and coordinators who have worked tirelessly to find Julian.”

The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said Monday that it continued its search efforts for Julian Sands, the veteran actor who disappeared in January while hiking around Mount Baldy, which lies in the San Gabriel Mountains less than 50 miles northeast of Los Angeles.
Officials said more than 80 search and rescue volunteers, deputies and staff participated in the search that took place Saturday in the nearby wilderness and remote areas across the mountain. The effort included two helicopters and drone crews. Sands, 65, remains missing.
The search had been suspended temporarily after the British actor, an experienced outdoorsman, was reported missing on January 13 because of the extra-severe winter conditions across Western U.S. Since Sands’ disappearance, San Bernardino sheriffs said they have conducted eight searches to find him, along with eight other operations.
“Despite the recent warmer weather, portions of the mountain remain inaccessible due to extreme alpine conditions,” the department said today.

“We believed in this potential from the start when we expanded out more globally,” executive producer James Waugh told IndieWire. “We really thought we could show the world just incredible animation that’s being done out there and incredible cultural voices out there from different countries. Each one of these creators had something they wanted to say. They are such masters of their craft. And then we got to see the fun of watching all their different animation techniques and styles brought to life in ‘Star Wars’ in ways we never quite experienced before.”

eOne and Crime Story Media have partnered with LAist 89.3, Los Angeles’ number one NPR station and podcast company Acast to present the original podcast series, Night Raid. Night Raid tells the story of a chaotic 2014 Swat raid on a home in San Gabriel that resulted in the death of Pomona Police Officer Shaun Diamond and the incarceration of David Martinez.
While the critical moments in the operation occurred in a matter of seconds, the story spans decades - from a contentious relationship between the Atf and a motorcycle club in the the 70’s to two explosive murder trials in 2019 and 2022.
Each week, the series unpacks aspects of that story using interviews, testimony reenactments, and jailhouse and police recordings.
The series is hosted by Molly Miller, who wrote the CrimeStory.com series, “Mongol – The Trial of David Martinez,” upon which the podcast is based. Crime Story Media’s Publisher and Editor,...

Exclusive: Fiona Shaw (Andor), Katherine Waterston (Inherent Vice) and Chaske Spencer (The English) have entered production in NYC on Park Avenue, a new indie drama from Sundance alum Gaby Dellal (On a Clear Day), who directs from her script written with Tina Alexis Allen.
A production of Rimsky Productions and Washington Square Films, Park Avenue follows a mother and daughter who, over a fraught six weeks, reveal secrets, unravel lies and ultimately lay bare the ties that bind. Paralyzed by her life wrangling cattle in Alberta, Canada, Charlotte (Waterston) jumps into her Ford Bronco, flees her over-controlling husband, and lands back in her childhood Park Avenue apartment where she takes refuge with her mother Kit (Shaw). Rediscovering the boy she loved, now her grown doorman Anders (Spencer), and the life she left at 18, the mother and daughter explore shared history, unshared truths and find a way to face both love and loss.

“In a Rian Johnson show, it’s all about these little breadcrumbs,” reveals editor Glenn Garland about the secret to editing a genre-bending murder mystery like Peacock’s hit new series “Poker Face.” For our recent webchat he explains that while each episode revolves around a mystery to be solved, the show still needs to be grounded by believable performances and storylines, so “that the audience knows where they are, and that they feel like they’re in safe hands every step of the way,” adding that “the key is, if something’s heightened, you still have to believe that the character believes everything that they’re saying, and there’s not a false moment. So with editing, it’s really about calibrating everything as far as, never wanting the audience to go, ‘wait, I’m watching a show.’ You want it to be like ‘I’m living this episode...

Released nearly a year ago, the third season of “The Boys” on Amazon Prime Video remains some of the best TV we’ve watched in the last 12 months. The anti-colorful comic book series follows Jack Quaid and Karl Urban as two operatives trying to take down superhero mega-company Vought International, who make up the superhero team known as the Seven. The Seven, in turn, are led by Antony Starr‘s Homelander.
Homelander is the antithesis of DC’s Superman or Marvel’s Captain America. He has all the power (and more) but none of their moral compass. He is an egomaniac who outrightly believes he is better than everyone else and he relishes the dark deeds and violence the show has become so known for. But New Zealander Starr, who previously headlined “American Gothic,” “Banshee,” and “Tricky Business,” transforms Homelander from what could have been a standard evil villain into...
