Exclusive: Renée Zellweger has come attached to star in The Back Nine, a comedy that Sex and the City’s Michael Patrick King will direct from a script he wrote with Jhoni Marchinko and Krista Smith. The film is set at Landline Pictures, the new label of MRC Film formed by Amy Baer, the former senior executive at Sony Pictures and CBS Films.
Baer will make this her first film, and she will produce with King. Zellweger and Carmella Casinelli will be executive producers for Big Picture Co., along with Marchinko and Smith.
Zellweger, who is coming off the Best Actress Oscar win for Judy, plays Casey Jones, who gave up a golf career so that her husband could have one. When she wakes up one morning to find her 25-year old marriage in free fall and her son off to college, she dusts off the clubs she tossed aside...

MRC Film has launched Landline Pictures, a new label targeting audiences over 50. Veteran producer Amy Baer has been tapped to lead the new venture.
According to a release announcing the news, Landline Pictures “will focus on uplifting and entertaining stories that are about and targeting the over 50 demographic, yet commercial and conceptual enough to cross over to a broader audience.”
Baer, who will report to MRC Film Co-Presidents Brye Adler and Jonathan Golfman, will oversee Landline Pictures’ creative and strategic agenda and serve in a producer capacity on all the label’s projects, with the goal to generate multiple films per year for both theatrical and streaming distribution.
“Amy is a total pro’s pro and we are proud to be partnered with her on this venture. There is a huge opportunity to make humorous and thoughtful movies for this underserved audience,” Adler and Golfman said, announcing the new venture and Baer’s appointment.

Suits Season 9 Episode 7 found Samantha and Harvey on the road, and the journey to find the Samantha's father helped Harvey to see things a bit more clearly.
If you watch Suits online, you know that Samantha and Harvey are more alike than they would care to admit.
Samantha's mission to find her father proved to be a daunting experience. Fleshing out her backstory through flashbacks was very effective.
In many cases, flashbacks weren't needed on Suits -- despite the show using them more than necessary.
But Samantha is a bit of a blank canvas because she only arrived on the scene during Suits Season 7.
Until now, she's been saddled with deeply-rooted anger issues, and for some reason, she thought meeting her father would help her come to terms with them.

We're one step closer to seeing Shadyside on the big screen, as 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment have hired a writer to pen their film based on Fear Street, the popular book series that R.L. Stine created before Goosebumps.
The Tracking Board reports that Kyle Killen has been hired to write the screenplay for the Fear Street film. The movie is expected to be an adaptation of the book series, although Stine himself recently revealed on Twitter that "the Fear Street movie will be an original story" and to "watch for it next year." He also mentioned that "there may be more than one Fear Street movie."
Killen has worked steadily as a writer since the early 2010s, working on the TV series Lone Star, Awake, and Mind Games, as well as writing the screenplays for the Jodie Foster-directed The Beaver, the thriller Scenic Route, and the upcoming Sinbad.

A brilliant reimagining of the French revenge shocker, this all-new version puts its own bloody stamp on the story – but is just as harrowing, visceral and gutsy. Directed by the “ones to watch” sibling duo of Kevin and Michael Goetz (Scenic Route), Martyrs is one of the most exciting horror remakes yet.
It also boasts some great performances from its young cast, with Troian Bellisario and Bailey Noble proving themselves as two scream queens for the ultra-violent generation – plus cult star Toby Huss makes the most chilling appearance of his career.
To win a copy of Martyrs on DVD, just answer the following question:
Who directed the original version of Martyrs? Was it:

From Synthia.Ca, take a look @ footage from the Anchor Bay Entertainment horror release "Martyrs", now available on DVD, Blu-ray and On Demand, directed by Kevin Goetz and Michael Goetz ("Scenic Route') and written by Mark L. Smith ("The Revenant"), starring Troian Bellisario ("Pretty Little Liars") and Bailey Noble ("True Blood"):
"...'Lucie' flees from the isolated warehouse where she has been held prisoner. Deeply traumatized, she is plagued by awful night terrors at the orphanage that takes her in. Her only comfort comes from 'Anna', a girl her own age.
"Nearly a decade later and still haunted by demons, Lucie finally tracks down the family that kidnapped her. As she and Anna move closer to the agonizing truth, they find themselves trapped in a nightmare – if they cannot escape, a martyr's fate awaits them..."

Editor's Note: The modern concept of a film director is being the one person who guides a film with his or her vision, yet the current film landscape is filled with sibling directing pairs who we think of as a singular auteur: Lana and Andy Wachowski, Jen Soska and Sylvia Soska, Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, Joe and Anthony Russo, Bobby and Peter Farrelly, Paolo and Vittorio Taviani, David and Jerry Zucker, Mark and Jay Duplass, Paul and Chris Weitz, Albert and Allen Hughes and, of course, Joel and Ethan Coen. So what is it about the sibling bond that has resulted in so many successful directing teams? We asked the The Goetz Brothers — award-winning directors of hundreds of commercials, two feature films ("Scenic Route" and "Martyrs") and who are managed by the sharp talent eyes at Anonymous Content — to tell us about their working relationship and how it started. It is difficult to review Martyrs without comparing it to Pascal Laugier’s phenomenal 2008 film of the same name. So let’s just get this out of the way: Kevin and Michael Goetz’s (Scenic Route) remake is a watered-down version of the original that is nowhere near as visceral, affecting or memorable. Martyrs 2016 is 10-15 minutes shorter than Martyrs 2008. At a […]...

In 2008, writer-director Pascal Laugier contributed to the realm of New French Extremity — a movement defined by such unrelenting bloodbaths as Claire Denis’s Trouble Every Day and Alexandre Aja’s High Tension — with Martyrs. While lesser films of its ilk received the dreaded “torture porn” label, Laugier’s shocking revenge picture gained cult admiration by padding its wrenching depictions of child abuse, hardcore gore, and ghastly (if not inventive) body horror with a provocative reflection on the meaning of suffering. Like many popular overseas horror selections, the film has received an American remake that may not resonate quite as much.
Directed by Kevin and Michael Goetz (Scenic Route), and based on a script by Mark L. Smith (who, as the co-writer of The Revenant, knows a thing or two about grueling violence), the new Martyrs begins much like its predecessor: with a little girl named Lucie (Ever Prishkulnik) escaping an...

I have not been a champion of the Martyrs remake. I just didn't see the point of remaking a great movie for the simple sake of making it more palpable for American audiences and the trailer didn't change my mind but when the opportunity arose to chat with the directors of the re-make, I jumped at the chance.
I would likely have skipped the entire affair if I didn't already know and like the work of Kevin and Michael Goetz. Their first feature film Scenic Route (trailer) was a really well made indie thriller that showcased the directors' ability to tell a great sto [Continued ...]...

We recently saw a new batch of stills for the upcoming Martyrs remake and with the movie due for release early next year, it was only a matter of time before a trailer was finaly released.

Back in 2008, I heard of a French horror film called Martyrs. I don’t think I saw it until 2009 and I ended up not really caring for the movie. It definitely made me feel uncomfortable and, at the time, I said I wouldn’t watch it again. I applauded the film for unsettling me but I also remember being kind of bored towards the latter half. I will fully admit that it is possible that the reason I didn’t like Martyrs was because it started off like a normal horror film using tropes that I was used to and would later do a 180 and turn into something that I didn’t really sign up for. For the past 4 to 5 years, I have been telling myself that the film deserved another rewatch. Now, I come across another conundrum. Do I watch the 2015/2016 remake of the film before I rewatch the...

Chris Peckover’s Sydney-set home invasion thriller to shoot early 2016.

Miller will play a 12-year-old boy with a devious side, with DeJonge as a babysitter battling to protect her young charge in a home invasion with a surprising twist.
The film, which Peckover co-wrote with Zack Kahn, is due to shoot in Australia in January 2016. “Safe Neighborhood is Home Alone meets Scream,” said producer Brett Thornquest of Australian Storm Vision Entertainment, which is producing the film alongside Los Angeles-based Best Medicine Productions.

In a visual flourish courtesy of pilot director Bryan Singer, Special Agent Milton Chamberlain is introduced in the world of "Battle Creek" from a low angle. Above his head, a circle of lights forms a halo. Milt Chamberlain is an angel. Milt Chamberlain is a boy scout. Milt Chamberlain is a golden boy. But Milt Chamberlain isn't exactly what he seems to be. Or at least Battle Creek Pd Detective Russ Agnew (Dean Winters) is convinced that Chamberlain isn't what he seems to be. But every time Russ thinks he's uncover the dark secret that his new partner is hiding, we discover that the secret isn't really the truth. It's a reluctant partnership that forms the spine of "Battle Creek," a quirky, surprisingly funny procedural that was created by "Breaking Bad" maestro Vince Gilligan and then developed as a series by "House" maestro David Shore. We haven't heard anything about the once-mooted Martyrs remake for about five years, but it's just raised its head again at Austin's Fantastic Fest. A tweet from the festival organisers reveals not only that the torture basement is back in operation, but also that it's now situated in Jason Blum's Blumhouse with new directors in-situ. The Goetz brothers (Kevin and Michael), who made 2013's The Scenic Route with Josh Duhamel, are the latest incumbents replacing Daniel Stamm.Coming soon to a screen near you... pic.twitter.com/yhXee2ZzCp— Fantastic Fest (@fantasticfest) February 6, 2015Pascal Laugier's extraordinarily brutal original 2008 French horror is, on the surface, about two young women who've grown up together in an orphanage facing down a disturbing past. But, as Stamm pointed out when we spoke to him previously, "Every time you think you know where it's going, it goes somewhere else." Beginning as a home invasion revenge/thriller,...

The Goetz Brothers ("Scenic Route") are reportedly attached to direct the remake of Pascal Laugier's acclaimed 2009 horror film "Martyrs". The original film's story follows a young woman who sets out to get revenge on the people who attacked and permanently scarred her when she was ten.
The pair's attachment was spotted on artwork currently on display at the European Film Market this week according to Dread Central. Said artwork also indicates Blumhouse and The Safran Company are set to produce.
In other news, Rome's mayor Ignazio Marino has reportedly confirmed to Bad Taste that the sequel to the 2001 comedy "Zoolander" will film for a whopping twelve weeks at Rome's famed Cinecitta Studios.
Ben Stiller will direct the film and reprise his role as male model Derek Zoolander on what appears to be a European tour. Shooting is slated to begin at the studio sometime this spring.

We've been hearing about a remake of the French horror film "Martyrs" since it was first released in 2009. At one point Kristen Stewart (Twilight) was rumored to star in an English-language version, but that has never been confirmed. Now comes word that Blumhouse, the company behind "Paranormal Activity," "Insidious" and "The Conjuring," is moving forward with the remake and has signed Kevin and Michael Goetz (Scenic Route) to direct. Check out the photo below to see the poster Blumhouse is using to pre-sell the "Martyrs" remake at the Berlin Film Festival. Dan Fogler is best known to big screen audiences for his work in a string of comedies like “School of Scoundrels,” “Good Luck Chuck,” “Balls of Fury,” “Fanboys” and “Take Me Home Tonight,” most often as the voluble best friend or a disrupter of normalcy. Of course, he’s also won a Tony Award for his performance as William Barfee in “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” and last year he helped anchor, alongside Josh Duhamel, the indie film “Scenic Route,” a spare, streamlined psychological thriller that doubled as a study in masculine relationship drift. Now, with the psychedelic comedy “Don Peyote,” Fogler has added another feather to his cap. A rollicking, ramshackle [ Read More ]

Josh Duhamel has made a career playing studly leading men. From Win a Date with Tad Hamilton! to Las Vegas to the Transformers films, the man certainly knows how to own the screen and make women and sometimes men swoon. His latest film Scenic Route is actually a major detour from his standard beefy hero roles. It is a psychological thriller which tests the actor’s abilities in a truly powerful way.
Though a direct-to-dvd film, Scenic Route has all the trappings of a gripping theatrically-released thriller. The film focuses on two old friends, Mitchell (Duhamel) and Carter (Dan Fogler) who, while driving in the California desert, their truck breaks down. Once they are stranded and eventually struggle to survive, their friendship is tested as they each slowly begin to lose their grip on reality and resort to truly nasty behavior.

David M. Rosenthal’s A Single Shot joins the ranks of some superior 2013 thrillers, the uniting factor being their complete grasp of a sense of place and time and their ability to unconditionally exploit their setting for the benefit of the story and characters. Mud, The Frozen Ground, Scenic Route and now this poetic backwoods chiller all place a compelling central character in a potentially life threatening ordeal, surrounds them with superior supporting players and executes their motives and actions with fluidity and respect. This year has so far seen a resurgence in this type of yarn – a stripped down, character based story that extracts its involving tenseness through simple actions, not bombast and explosions.
For A Single Shot, Matthew F. Jones adapts his own novel which can often be the kiss of death for any film in such a situation. Though I have not personally read his book, it...
