A “Jacob’s Ladder”-ish paranoid thriller arriving just in time to find conspiracy theories plunked right in the middle of post-election American politics, “Wander” only muddies the water further. This latest collaboration between director April Mullen and writer Tim Doiron offers yet another unpredictable shift, but pushes its idiosyncrasies off a cliff before establishing any narrative terra firma.
There is some pleasure to be had in watching an atypically frenetic Aaron Eckhart as a Ptsd-afflicted loner wading deep into possibly-imagined evildoings in the Southwest, with Tommy Lee Jones and Heather Graham also welcome as two allies. Still, the film’s hyperbolic style and convoluted storytelling tend to exhaust patience rather than build intrigue, making for a muddle whose too-many twists and turns ultimately seem meaningless as well as implausible. Saban Films is releasing the Canadian co-production to American audiences via digital, on demand and available theaters Dec. 4.

When are horror movie characters going to learn that taunting evil spirits only causes trouble? For the sake of horror movies, probably never, as Dead Before Dawn 3D continues the tradition of gathering a group of non-believing high schoolers and thrusting them into a cursed scenario. At least writer Tim Doiron and director April Mullen attempted to have fun with the genre, literally making their own horror curse off the top of their head. Know what a “Zemon” is? Ever hear of a horror monster that attacks by giving you hickies? Want to see a hot cheerleader make out with the undead? No? Too bad.

Next Wave begins its run today through Sunday at the gorgeous Tiff headquarters, the Bell Lightbox at John and King in Toronto. It’s a notable fest for younger Fangorians in that a few genre friendly titles are getting the deluxe treatment, including the splatterific Dead Before Dawn 3D, a gory horror comedy shot in digital 3D; the first exclusively Canadian film shot in this kind of 3D process, in fact.
Matilda Davidson is a senior member of the Next Wave committee (and she’s 17…feel old yet?). She’s an enthusiastic youth, mad about movies, articulate and serious about providing great content for her peers and demographic:
“Dead Before Dawn 3D is hilarious. It was the best choice for a closing night film because it’s just covered in blood and a real crowd pleaser. It has a bit of Evil Dead in there but goes off in all kinds of unexpected directions.

It looks like Antoine Fuqua may be delivering a hard-nosed takeover of the White House with Olympus Has Fallen which received an R rating from the MPAA today for strong violence and language throughout. I have to believe Roland Emmerich's White House Down will go the PG-13 route so at least this is one thing that will help differentiate the two. The rest of today's ratings are rather tame with a PG-13 for The Last Exorcism Part II and ratings for Susanne Bier's Love is All You Need and Thanks for Sharing. Here is the complete batch of latest MPAA ratings from Bulletin #2259. Closed Circuit Rated R For language and brief violence. Dead Before Dawn 3D Rated R For violence and some sexual references. From The Rough Rated PG For language and thematic elements. Hating Breitbart PG-13 Rated PG-13 For thematic material and brief strong language. Note: Edited Version.

Toronto - Gaiam Vivendi Entertainment has grabbed the U.S. rights to the Canadian indie zombie pic Dead Before Dawn 3D, which stars Christopher Lloyd and was directed by April Mullen. The U.S. theatrical date is yet to be announced. “The acquisition by Gaiam Vivendi reinforces the fact that there’s a healthy appetite for independent 3D films if the content is right," Andre Relis, president of Vmi Worldwide, which handles international sales, said Monday. With his roadshow for The Devil's Carnival in the spotlight, we'd almost forgotten about Darren Bousman's The Barrens, but Voltage Pictures is in Cannes with it and has released a new poster for the film about a man who becomes convinced his family is being stalked by the Jersey Devil.
Fansite All Stephen Moyer (the "True Blood" star plays the lead in The Barrens) tracked down the poster for the flick, which co-stars Mia Kirshner ("The Vampire Diaries", 388 Arletta Avenue, The Black Dahlia), Erik Knudsen (Scream 4, Saw II), J Larose (Insidious, Saw III), Allie MacDonald (House at the End of the Street), Max Topplin (Dead Before Dawn 3D, "Fringe") and Peter DaCunha.
The legend of The Jersey Devil has been passed along for hundreds of years as the creature has risen from obscurity to take its place alongside the Loch Ness Monster, Big Foot, and the Chupacabra. The...

One of my all-time favorite character actors is Christopher Lloyd, who concocted many a memorably zany performance for everything from Back to the Future to Clue. Horror fans were lucky enough to see him back on screen in Piranha 3D, and now he's returning to the genre in Dead Before Dawn 3D (pictured above), a Canadian horror-comedy already generating buzz for its hybrid creation, the "zemon" ("half zombie, half demon"). More info and another pic after the jump. Our friends at Shock Till You Drop have these photos (as well as a few more you can view on their site), as well as the following synopsis... Casper Galloway's future is one giant question mark. With only two weeks...

Everyone was puzzled when, over the summer, a new film called Dead Before Dawn 3D entered production. Puzzled because the story concerned the release of "zemons" (half zombie/half demons) on a small town. Zemons? What the hell, right? Hey, it's a horror-comedy, so you can't scrutinize the logistics of a zombie/demon or take the mash-up too seriously. Anyway, since that first announcement, the Canadian production has called it a wrap. The film stars Martha MacIsaac, Devon Bostick, Brandon Jay McLaren, Brittany Allen, Kevin McDonald, Rossif Sutherland and Christopher Lloyd and we've got the first stills from the film, directed by April Mullen. You'll find the images just past this updated synopsis we have received. Casper Galloway's future is one giant...

Dead Before Dawn 3D bills itself as the first Canadian film shot in stereoscopic 3D. That means the zemons (half demon, half zombie) will be coming out of the screen in a realistic fashion. Currently, this film is at the American Film Market where it has unveiled an early film poster (seen left). This story is a "coming of age" film in which some colleges students unleash a curse and a horde of bloodthirsty monsters . Will all the characters be "Dead Before the Dawn?" or will they find a way to put the supernatural back in its box?
Dead Before the Dawn 3D is currently in the post-production stage so there will not be much of a wait as the film is expected to release in 2012. For now, enjoy the film details on this horror comedy below.
Director: April Mullen.
Writer: Tim Doiron.

And another photo from the set of a currently in production project got our attention tonight thanks to the magic of Twitter. Darren Lynn Bousman posted an image from The Barrens on his feed, and we have to say the star of the scene in question is quite a looker!
Bousman writes: Just another night on The Barrens! Earlier, as Week 1 of shooting wrapped up, he shared a bit about the harsh weather conditions he and the cast and crew were dealing with: Day 4 of shooting... Day 4 of straight rain... Who was the asshole that wrote an entire movie taking place outside? Which was followed by: Day 5 - torrential downpour! Come on Mother Nature. Please cut us a break... It's stopped being funny. Hopefully things are better as the film enters its second week of shooting.
