Icelandic football filmThe Home Game won the Glasgow Film Festival audience award which was presented as the 20th edition drew to a close in the Scottish city last night (March 10).
Smari Gunn and Logi Sigursveinsson’s documentary about plucky underdogs Reynir Fc’s bid for cup glory scored the highest audience score in the award’s 10-year history.
Based in the Icelandic village of Hellissandur, with a population of 369, Reynir Fc was re-formed in 2020 with a ragtag bunch of locals including a 15-year-old schoolboy rapper, 40-something in goal and the somewhat controversial inclusion of a former Iceland women’s team player.

Exclusive: The Other Guys gang is back together, this time on HBO. The pay cable network is developing a comedy project for Rob Riggle to star and produce. The single-camera comedy, based on an idea by Riggle, is being written by Adam McKay and Chris Henchy. Set in the world of bond traders in 1980s Wall Street, it revolves around a successful, hard-living boss (Riggle) who lives a dark, self-centered, unhealthy life. McKay and Henchy are executive producing with their Gary Sanchez Prods partner Will Ferrell as well as Mark Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson, Peter Principato and Paul Young. The project, which stems from Riggle’s development deal with HBO, reunites three of the stars of The Other Guys – Ferrell, Walhberg and Riggle — with the film’s writers McKay and Henchy. It was on that movie that McKay, Wahlberg, Ferrell and Riggle formed a working relationship and set out to find...

Exclusive: Actor Rob Riggle has inked a development deal with HBO. Under the pact, Riggle has come on board to help develop and star in Lifestyle Lemonaid, a comedy project based on LifestyleLemonaid.com, Nikki Joel's tell-all blog about her marriage to top Wme talent agent Brandt Joel. HBO bought the project, which is being written by Jordon Nardino (Desperate Housewives), last summer. HBO fixtures Mark Wahlberg and Steve Levinson are executive producing. On her blog, Nikki Joel regularly shares her husband's most intimate details. The time he wanted to have a vasectomy ... the time she caught him masturbating in the middle of the night during an earthquake ... the time he erased all her TiVo-ed shows because he was pissed she'd gone out three nights in a row without him ... Riggle will play the husband (who is not expected to be an agent) on the show, which is slated to do a table read.

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the fourth announced today. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on CBS.
Still faring well, though not as indomitable as it used to be, CBS made headlines more this year for the antics of "Two and a Half Men" star Charlie Sheen than any of its other shows. With Ashton Kutcher now replacing Sheen, the new look 'Men' is staying in the same time slot and you can bet the network is desperately hoping it'll perform as well.
In any case, CBS is actually making some significant changes this year in terms of scheduling. Most notably the new J.J. Abrams series "Person of Interest" is getting the highly coveted Thursday 9pm slot which has been the home of the original "CSI" for the past decade,...

After spending untold amounts of cash on hundreds of dramas and comedies — most of which will never make it to your living rooms — the five broadcast networks will begin announcing in New York next week which projects are good enough to earn a coveted fall pickup. (NBC and Fox will present their fall schedule to advertisers on Monday, followed by ABC on Tuesday, CBS on Wednesday and the CW on Thursday).
Buzz is already strong for several projects (for more on the hot ones, click here). But every year, we always wonder what diamond-in-the-rough was left on the cutting room...

The Daily Show correspondent Jason Jones is set to co-star opposite Heather Locklear in CBS' comedy pilot The Assistants, a Tucker Cawley-written ensemble about the assistants who work for a celebrity, Ali (Heather Locklear), and her younger hunky husband Gale (Jones) who lives in her shadow. It centers on Mike (David Henrie) who, newly arrived in Hollywood from a small town, is hoping his job as an assistant to Ali might open doors for him. This the second consecutive broadcast pilot for Jones, repped by UTA and Brillstein Entertainment. Last season, he toplined ABC's comedy pilot How to Be a Better American. He joins fellow Daily Show correspondent Rob Riggle who stars in another CBS comedy pilot, Home Game.

And they’re off! Casting is all but completed and production has already begun on scores of pilots for the five broadcast networks. But not every comedy and drama will go the distance. Which project has the right stuff? What pilot already has you feeling like you popped a Lunesta? Check out the mammoth slate for fall consideration. (And remember, all projects are whittled down in late April/early May before the nets present their fall slates to advertisers in New York):

Yay! After the untimely cancellation of Starz's massively underrated Party Down (from Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas), we were a little nervous for its fabulous Ron Donald, Ken Marino, a Thomas favorite who also appeared on the Kristen Bell teen-detective series. Obvi we had no reason to be, since Marino's since co-starred on the Adult Swim series Children's Hospital and co-written a movie with David Wain. But still!
But Marino's stopping by network TV too; he's just signed on to co-star as Rob Riggle's brother in CBS' upcoming pilot Home Game, about a former NFL athlete who retires and settles into (zany!!) suburban family life. If anything can brighten up that sh*thole of a channel, it's the guy who brought you Soup-r-Crackers.

David Walton has been tapped as the male lead opposite Amanda Peet in NBC's single-camera comedy pilot Bent. The project, from writer-exec producer Tad Quill, is a romantic comedy about a recently divorced Type A single mother (Peet) who tries hard not to fall for the sexy surfer dude contractor (Walton) she’s hired to re-do her kitchen. For Walton, the casting is in second position to softly-rated midseason comedy Perfect Couples which shares the same network, NBC, and studio, Ums, as Bent. He is the second Perfect Couples star to book a pilot in second position, following Kyle Bornheimer's casting in Fox's comedy The Council of Dads. This is the third consecutive comedy pilot at NBC for Walton, repped by Gersh and Crestview, after 2009's 100 Questions and 2010's Perfect Couples. Party Down alum Ken Marino is set to co-star opposite Rob Riggle in CBS' comedy pilot Home Game.

The future of "Two and a Half Men" is, let's say, cloudy at the moment.
If we had to guess right now, we'd say that the show, which is currently the most-watched comedy on TV, will be back in some form -- with or without Charlie Sheen -- for 2011-12. CBS will announce its lineup for next season in mid-May, which means the network, Warner Bros. TV, creators Chuck Lorre and Lee Aronsohn and Sheen have about two and a half months to figure out what happens next.
But what if the worst-case scenario for CBS happens and "Men" doesn't come back at all?
Yes, the network would probably suffer some in the ratings -- but it would probably also come out Ok. CBS also has the No. 2 and 3 comedies in terms of viewers in "The Big Bang Theory" and "Mike & Molly"; both shows are also in the Top 25 this...

Who says TV’s casting process can’t be as exciting as the hunt for film stars? Andrew Garfield may have comic book fans salivating over Marc Webb’s do-over of Spider-Man for Sony but the broadcast networks have been just as successful at drumming up interest in Wonder Woman (we’ll never tire of linking photos of Friday Night Lights’ looker Adrianne Palicki).
Many of the actors who’ve already booked pilots over the last two months may not even make the cut for fall, but the current crop of prospective fall stars has already upstaged most of the starpower in primetime this year.

CBS may not have a project like Wonder Woman that’s eating up all the headlines, nor does it have a much-anticipated reboot in the works that has fans hoping for the best (and even anticipating the worst). But the No. 1 network (in viewers) doesn’t need to make a lot of noise with its fall 2011 development, especially when it continues to succeed with tried-and-true formats featuring law dogs and crime-fighting duos.
That said, the network does have a serious weapon in its arsenal that could end up upstaging Woman and those three angels on ABC. I’m talking to...

Former Saturday Night Live castmember Rob Riggle's career has slowed down since he departed the long-running sketch show, aside from his stint as a Daily Show correspondent. But he's coming back with a bang: he's just signed on to the lead in a new Mark Wahlberg-produced multicamera CBS comedy Home Game, based loosely on the life of former NFL star Mark Schlereth and his life as a (retired from the pros) husband and father.

Tell us if you’ve heard this one before. Rob Riggle (The Daily Show, SNL, The Hangover) will star in a CBS sitcom about a former NFL player who comes home to his family after retiring from the game of football. Some of our older readers may remember former Detroit Lion Alex Karras starred in Webster with Emmanuel Lewis and if you blinked, you might have missed former New York Giant Michael Strahan in the 2009 Fox sitcom Brothers.
Home Game is based off of the life of Espn NFL analyst and three-time Super Bowl winning guard, Mark Schlereth whose post-game life includes being a sports talk radio host and playing a recurring role as Detective Roc Hoover on The Guiding Light. The difference in Home Game is that Schelereth is leaving his pursuit of acting to daytime soap operas and will just produce the series with his wife and daughter...

Exclusive: Home Game has won the Rob Riggle sweepstakes. Riggle is set to star in the CBS multicamera comedy, from Mark Wahlberg and Stephen Levinson's Leverage. The project, loosely based on the experiences of former NFL star Mark Schlereth, centers on Mark (Riggle), a retired NFL player who returns home to his wife Lisa (Constance Zimmer) and daughters. Finding a starring vehicle for the former Daily Show correspondent has been a big priority for CBS, which in the fall inked a third consecutive talent deal with him. Riggle was initially attached to a comedy from Saturday Night veteran Robert Smigel. When that project didn't go to pilot, the network sent him 3 other scripts, including Home Game. With his background as a Marine where he was often deployed and his current profession as an actor where he goes away for filming and touring, Riggle immediately connected with the character in...
