Amazon has decided not to move forward with the Marvel live-action series, Silk: Spider Society, two years after green-lighting the project. The show, from producers Sony Pictures Television, was confirmed back in 2022 and was in the early stages of writing when Amazon pulled the plug on it.
The Walking Dead fame Angela Kang was attached to the series as the showrunner, whose deal with Amazon still remains in place as she will be working on other projects for the studio. Meanwhile, Prime Video has announced another series based on Marvel characters owned by Sony: Noir, starring Nicolas Cage.

Yesterday, news broke that ‘Silk: Spider Society’ won’t be moving forward at Amazon. The execs instead decided to focus on a different show, the one revolving around Spider-Man Noir, starring Nicholas Cage.
The reasons for cancelation aren’t exactly clear, with some reasons pointing in the direction of the show having a difficult time with the script, going through at least three versions.
The second reason might be because the show was female-oriented, staring female superhero in the main role, and as we all know those types of projects are struggling in recent times, due to several reasons but mostly due to a lack of female support, if we’re going by the audience numbers.
Now MCU’s Sim Liu, better known as Shang-Chi sent a heartfelt message to fans. The actor says that he is gutted that the show is not moving forward and asks fans to advocate for the show,...

Earlier this week, we learned of plans for Noir, a new Spider-Man TV series coming to Amazon's Prime Video. While it's still early days, the project will see Nicolas Cage suit up after first playing the title character in 2018's animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
There was no mention of Silk: Spider Society during Amazon's Upfronts earlier this week and, yesterday evening, we learned that the streamer has scrapped plans for the series.
The Hollywood Reporter has since chimed in, confirming that Phil Lord and Chris Miller remain attached to Sony's small screen Spider-Verse. The filmmakers "were handed control of the studio’s Marvel slate" as part of a deal first made with the studio in 2019.
"Plans for the interconnected Marvel slate of Sony shows remains in place, sources say, though only Noir will be part of that now unless another buyer for Silk emerges," the trade adds.

The Spider-Verse gives, and the Spider-Verse takes away. According to Deadline, the live-action TV series "Silk: Spider Society" is dead on arrival after years of development. Earlier this week, MGM+ and Prime Video (which were set to be the streaming home for the series) announced that Nicolas Cage will be starring in his own live-action Spider-Verse spinoff, "Noir," but didn't give any updates on "Silk" a series that was set to shine a spotlight on Korean-American spider-powered hero Cindy Moon. Rights for the character are reportedly set to revert back to Sony Pictures Television, which will continue looking for a home for the show.
Deadline says the series is no more, and their sources vary when it comes to the reason "Silk" isn't moving forward. However, the show has publicly gone through some turnover since even before it was first officially greenlit in 2022. Back in 2018, "Silk" was rumored to be...

In a move that may come as a relief to some but a surprise to others, Sony has reportedly canceled another Spider-Man-related project. After the Spider-Man spinoff Silk from Amazon became the center of controversy at the streamer, and Madame Web tanked badly at the box office, Sony allegedly decided to shelve the project.

Silk: Spider Society, the Sony Pictures series that had Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) on board as executive producers, is no longer moving forward on Prime Video.
The announcement comes just days after Amazon confirmed that the Sony-produced Spider-Man Noir show starring Nicolas Cage is officially in development. No official reason for Silk being scrapped was provided, but Deadline has heard that the decision "likely lies in the show’s tortured development history."
Apparently, the project went through at least three versions, one of which "involved a request for Angela Kang and her writing team to reconfigure the show so it is not hanging so heavily on the central character of Silk."
Former The Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang was brought on to oversee Silk: Spider Society, which was marketed as "the first in an expected slate of Marvel TV series based on the Sony...

The “Silk: Spider Society” live-action series has been scrapped at Amazon.
The show was originally greenlit in November 2022 in a deal with Sony Pictures Television to develop a suite of shows based on Marvel characters that Sony controls. It was meant to debut on the MGM+ linear channel domestically before a global launch on Prime Video.
“The Walking Dead” alum Angela Kang was onboard as executive producer and showrunner, with Kang also signing a multi-year overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios in the process. Kang will continue under that deal. Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal were also executive producers on the series. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, Sony will try to shop the series to other buyers.

The writing was basically on the wall for this one.
Amazon’s Marvel drama Silk: Spider Society — from producers Sony Pictures Television — is no longer moving forward at the streamer. Sources say Sony TV, which owns rights to a fraction of the Marvel universe that features more than 900 characters, plans to shop the drama series from former Walking Dead showrunner Angela Kang. Kang, who departed her pact with AMC for what sources say is an eight-figure deal with Amazon, remains housed at the streamer and will continue to develop projects for the company.
Reps for Amazon and Sony declined to comment.
The decision to scrap Silk comes a mere two days after Amazon, during its first in-person pitch to Madison Avenue ad buyers, announced a Sony-produced Marvel series Noir, starring Nicolas Cage.
Noir, like Silk, is poised to launch first on Amazon’s linear network, MGM+, before debuting on the streamer.

Over a year ago, news surfaced that Amazon would be producing a live-action series centered around Spider-Man Noir, a superhero situated in 1930s New York City. Departing from the traditional Spider-Man narrative, this show will spotlight an older, more seasoned character distinct from Peter Parker. Developed by Oren Uziel, the series will carve its own path within the Marvel universe, with Uziel serving as both writer and executive producer.
The project has attracted notable industry figures, including producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal. Uziel, recognized for his work on films like ’22 Jump Street’ and the 2021 ‘Mortal Kombat,’ brings his expertise to the endeavor. This series is part of Amazon’s lineup of character-driven Marvel projects, joining the ranks of ‘Silk: Spider Society.’
Today, it has been officially confirmed that Nicholas Cage will indeed portray Spider-Man Noir in the upcoming show, confirming months of speculation.

Marvel and DC fans have been waiting for someday when finally the worlds of Superman and Iron Man may collide. Although such a crossover sounds far-fetched, it looks like another prominent superhero IP, Invincible may pull off a similar stunt. This is speculated as recently The Spectacular Spider-Man fame Josh Keaton teased his appearance in Invincible Season 2.
The Spectacular Spider-Man
However, even before the potential crossover, Marvel fans did not ignore a subtle reference to the web-slinger in the latest Invincible episode. Despite being an extremely minute detail, Marvel fans took over the internet to express their excitement about the Spidey reference.

The Invincible has amassed a massive fandom after its animated series launched on Amazon Prime. It provided a breath of fresh air by introducing bloody and mature themes in the prevailing atmosphere of generic superhero stories.

Cast your mind back to roughly a year ago, when the exciting news broke that Into/Across The Spider-Verse writing/producing duo Phil Lord and Chris Miller were working with Oren Uziel to bring a live-action version of Spider-Man Noir (Aka the 1930s take on the web-slinger voiced by Nicolas Cage in the first Spider-Verse outing) to screens via Sony/Marvel's deal with Amazon. At the time, we bemoaned the fact that Cage wasn't connected… But guess what? Sometimes the universe (potentially) delivers, as The Ankler has heard that he's in serious talks to star.
Before we all get too excited, talks don't always blossom into people actually appearing in movies or shows, but at the very least, it's a positive step forward for the possibility of Cage donning the fedora and chugging egg creams while slugging Nazis. It's certainly better news than the update on the other Sony/Amazon Spider-series Silk,...

By now, everyone knows that Ezekiel Sims "was in the Amazon with Cassie's (Dakota Johnson) mom when she was researching spiders right before she died," but is that all we really need to know about the man who seems to be a major "Madame Web" villain? The power of an instantly popular meme goes a long way, so even once Sony's new Spider-Man spinoff hits theaters and reveals more about Sims, I'm pretty sure some of us will still remember him as the guy who Witawmmwswrsrbsd (for short).

Taiwanese screenwriter and director Su Chao Bin wrote this Ming Dynasty wuxia drama primarily for Michelle Yeoh to star in. According to Su and producer Terence Chang, the approach was to do a story in the style of Gu Long's wuxia, populated with multiple characters plus a touch of suspense and mystery. Producer John Woo's input is mainly as an adviser, but he did direct one action scene which featured his daughter and thereby also credited as co-director. Su won the Best Director award for his effort at the 17th Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards.

Forgive us if we occasionally sound surprised or bemused in our coverage of the Suits streaming phenomenon. It’s just that an innocuous 2010s cable series suddenly becoming a monster hit on streaming is a fairly perplexing experience.
Streaming services like Netflix and Peacock, both of which host multiple seasons of Suits, spend untold millions trying to produce their own original hits only for a USA Network series from years ago to blow them all out of the water. People quite simply can’t get enough of the legal machinations of Harvey Specter (Gabriel Macht), Michael Ross (Patrick J. Adams), and the rest of the personnel a their constantly-changing law firm.
Why, exactly, has Suits in particular become such a hit? We’ll leave that one for the sociologists. But the show’s success this summer has made one undeniable fact of TV life clear: legal dramas are great! For decades,...

Warner Bros. Discovery's loss has turned into Amazon's gain. It has been revealed that "Batman: Caped Crusader," the long-in-development animated series from J.J. Abrams, Matt Reeves, and Bruce Timm, will now debut on Amazon Prime Video as opposed to HBO Max, as was originally the plan. What's more, Amazon is going all-in on the show, as the company has handed a two-season order to the series according to The Hollywood Reporter.
It had previously been reported that HBO Max was not moving forward with "Caped Crusader" as a result of restructuring by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav. Instead, the project was shopped around to potential buyers, with Amazon coming out on top. Netflix, Apple, and Hulu are said to have been in the running as well. Chris Miller and Phil Lord, the producers of Sony’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse animated movies which first brought the Spider-Man Noir character onto screens, helped develop the series with Uziel and will executive produce the series via their Lord Miller banner. Amy Pascal, who has a hand in all of Sony’s Spider-Man adaptations, is also executive producing, as will Uziel.
Spider-Man Noir is a more recent Marvel creation, having been first introduced in a comic mini-series in 2009. The Noir universe is an alternate universe that re-imagines some of the Marvel characters in a hard-boiled, 1930s setting. The...

Exclusive: Writer-producer Jason Ning is expanding his relationship with Sony Pictures Television, signing an overall deal with the studio.
Ning currently serves as co-executive producer on Silk: Spider Society with Angela Kang, the first in a suite of live-action series being produced by Sony Pictures Television for MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video.
He is also currently developing a TV series adaptation of the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and other four novels in Wang DuLu’s Crane Iron Pentalogy, published between 1938 and 1944, which chronicle the struggles of four generations of youxia, a type of ancient Chinese warrior folk hero.
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was famously adapted by Ang Lee into his Oscar-winning movie, which incorporated elements from other books in the Crane series. The film was produced and distributed by Sony, making the title a lucrative IP in the studio’s library.

Step aside Peter Parker, Sony’s live-action spider-verse is finally introducing another web-slinger. The superhero Silk a.k.a Cindy Moon is set to have her own series on Prime Video and the Amazon-owned MGM+ (formerly Epix) thanks to Sony’s multi-year television deal with the company, and I have to say it’s about damn time.
Cindy Moon is a relatively new character in Marvel comics, debuting in Issue #1 of the 2014 run of The Amazing Spider-Man. Her origin is intertwined with Peter Parker’s as the radioactive spider that bites Peter also bites Cindy before it dies. However, Cindy’s journey after her spider bite is kind of a weird one that includes secret bunkers and multiversal vampires that only feed on Spider-beings.
Without getting too deep into the spider-verse lore, Cindy, Peter, and other Spider-beings across the multiverse that are referred to as “totems” have a unique life-force...

Word first arrived in September that Sony was looking to further develop opportunities for the large amount of Marvel characters to which it owns the rights. There is now a distribution deal in place, with Amazon picking up global rights to any potential shows.
First out of the gate will be Silk: Spider Society, which will follow the adventures of Cindy Moon, a character created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos.
A Korean-American classmate of Peter Parker’s, she was first introduced in the comic books in The Amazing Spider-Man #1 in 2014. Like Parker, she is bitten by a radioactive spider, which gives her the ability to move at incredible speed, shoot webs out of her fingertips, and possess an advanced Spider-Sense (known as Silk Sense). Tiffany Espensen played the character in [Spider-Man: Homecoming](Spider-Man: Homecoming), though not the superhero version.

Back in 2019, after the success of their animated film “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse,” Phil Lord and Chris Miller signed a massive deal with Sony to develop a suite of new “Spider-Man” TV projects. The first of those, “Silk,” was announced in September 2020, but things soon fell silent on the series. That is, until now.

Sony’s intricate web of Spider-Man-related projects is spinning up plans for a spin-off series focusing on Cindy Moon, otherwise known as Silk. According to reports, a cluster of Marvel characters are scuttling toward the small screen after MGM+, and Amazon Prime ordered several live-action series from Sony Pictures Entertainment. The first project swinging out of the deal is Silk: Spider Society, with The Walking Dead’s Angela Kang acting as showrunner.
The deal to bring Sony’s Spider-Verse to streaming services has been in the works for a while. Arrangements to acquire the rights were a nightmare to organize, but now that a linear network for debuts is secured, the show can get on the road. Projects like Silk: Spider Society will debut on MGM+ (which is changing its name in January), then go to Amazon Prime Video in the States. Amazon will also be the show’s international home across 240 countries and territories.

Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures Television are officially teaming up to carve out their own corner of the superhero craze. A longtime rights-holder for standalone characters such as Marvel's flagship hero Spider-Man and his rogues gallery, the studio that brought you both "Venom" films (with a third on its way), "Morbius," and eventually "Kraven the Hunter," "Madame Web" and "El Muerto" is now moving full speed ahead with multiple Marvel shows on streaming.
The major news comes courtesy of Variety, which reports that the first of many new series will debut on Prime Video with the newly-titled "Silk: Spider Society." This confirms previous rumors indicating that Sony was shopping the series around (which first began development as a feature film) to Amazon Studios, putting the Korean-American hero Cindy Moon front and center. Amazon is officially moving forward with multiple live-action shows based on the Marvel characters controlled by Sony, Variety has learned.
The first series under the deal will be “Silk: Spider Society,” which was developed by “The Walking Dead” showrunner Angela Kang along with “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. Kang will serve as showrunner and executive producer on “Silk” as part of a new multi-year overall television deal she has signed with Amazon. A slew of Marvel characters are heading to the small screen after MGM+, the linear network formerly known as Epix, and Amazon Prime Video ordered a suite of live-action series from Sony Pictures Television.
Spider-Man spinoff series Silk: Spider Society, which has been in the works for some time, will be the first show to emerge from the pact with The Walking Dead’s Angela Kang set as showrunner.
The deal is a culmination of a complex web of rights that meant the series will have to debut first on a linear network, in this case MGM+, which is set to be relaunched with its new name in January. MGM+ will have the first window in the U.S. and the series will then air on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming service in the States. Internationally, the series will also air on the Amazon streamer in 240 countries and territories.

Exclusive: Jeff Frost, a 15-year Sony TV veteran, is stepping down as President of Sony Pictures Television Studios, a post he has held for the past five years. According to sources, his departure was a mutual decision. With the TV studio coming off a banner year — hitting an all-time high of over 50 produced series and making waves at the 2021 Emmy nominations — I hear Frost felt it was time to leave and start a new chapter. Frost just shared his decision with his staff; Ravi Ahuja, Chairman, Global Television Studios, announced Frost’s departure in a company email. (You can read both in full at the bottom of the post.)
There is no immediate replacement for Frost. I hear a search is in very early stages, and the studio has held exploratory conversations with a handful of seasoned TV executives. Frost will stay on through September to help with the transition.

Today on Crew Call, The Afterparty architects Phil Lord and Christopher Miller discuss how they took what was a feature concept at TriStar more than 10 years ago and turned into a Rashomon comedy series for Apple TV+.
The streamer literally died for it, so much that they gave a greenlight to a Season 2 writers room before The Afterparty even debuted. Season 2’s murder takes place at a wedding, with Tiffany Haddish’s Detective Danner returning assisted by Sam Richardson’s Aniq and Zoe Chao’s Zoe in finding the culprit. John Cho, Ken Jeong, Elizabeth Perkins, Zach Woods and Poppy Liu also star. From the sounds of it, each episode will center around a pair of suspects versus Season 1’s concept of one per episode. And the murder victim this time is not similar to Dave Franco’s Xavier — that’s all the pair can say. Cameras are already rolling.

Don’t let the title fool you, there is no harmony on display here. Pic takes place over one long summer night when a set of affluent students celebrate the end of term, clash with a group of local youths who’ve also hit the same beach to party. Rather than share a beach big enough for everyone, each side stakes absolute rights over it, leading to confrontation, violence, and ultimately tragedy for all. The film was developed with support from Northern Ireland Screen.

Sony's 'Universe of Marvel Characters' include "Morbius", “Kraven The Hunter", "Silver Sable", "Nightwatch", "Silk", "Jackpot" and “Black Cat" :
"We have the next seven or eight years laid out as to what we’re going to do with that asset", said Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman Tony Vinciquerra about the studio's "Spider-Man" spin-off movie rights.
"And that will not only be on the film side -- it’ll be on the TV side as well. Our television group will have its own set of characters from within that universe that we will seek to develop."
"'Spider-Man' connects to a lot of characters," said Sanford Panitch, President of Columbia Pictures. "There are villains, heroes, anti-heroes, and a lot are female characters, many of whom are bona fide, fully dimensionalized and unique..."

The American legal system is an enormous, ancient beast filled with so many contradictions, vestigial traditions, and internal biases that sometimes only an outsider can really make sense of it.
At least that’s what AMC is hoping with the arrival of 61st Street, the latest TV legal drama from British lawyer-turned screenwriter Peter Moffat. Moffat is well-known to U.K. audiences through modern law and order sagas like North Square, Criminal Justice, and Silk. In 2020, Moffat took his first crack at unwinding the American judicial system with the Showtime series Your Honor, which starred Bryan Cranston as a New Orleans judge faced with an impossible decision. Now, Moffat is tackling American justice from a different perspective – namely the mostly Black working class folks it tends to crush in its burdensome cogs.

I've been encouraging my mom to take a vacation for years now. Every year, however, she puts something in front of her joy: she's taking care of a sick relative, she doesn't have the funds, she's going to wait until next year. It's a generational thing - the Black women in my family modeled selflessness for me, to the point where I even forget to close my laptop, put away my to-do lists, and have fun.
But there was no lack of fun in Las Vegas, where Silk Sonic turned the Park MGM into a full-on celebration of Black elders - especially Black women. Before walking into the phones-free Dolby Live theater, millennials hyped up excited elders in sharp and stylish outfits, helping them get the best angles on their photos. I grew up on '70s and '80s soul music (my mom and uncle were DJs), and I...
