British actor Janet Montgomery has landed a starring role as a young Faye Dunaway in Jonathan Baker’s supernatural love story “Fate,” a film that is shooting in Vancouver for Baker Entertainment.
The film will toggle between a yesteryear version of the character (Montgomery) and a present-day incarnation (Dunaway), spanning much of the protagonist’s entire lifetime. “Fate” revolves around a firefighter (Brandon Routh) who connects with a stranger from the past Tilly (Montgomery) while he’s healing at a rehabilitation center and is transported through time to find the only thing saving his soul — his realization of true love, according to a producer’s logline.
Highland Film Group is selling rights to the $10 million film, which also stars Harvey Keitel, at the Cannes Marche.
Dunaway is on the ground in Cannes, where HBO screened the much-anticipated biographical documentary “Faye.”
Montgomery was cast out of hundreds of actors vying for the role.

At this year’s Oscars, “The Zone of Interest” director Jonathan Glazer took the prize for most polarizing speech. And the swirl surrounding exactly what he said and what he meant — still a matter of debate — doesn’t appear to be dying down.
When the British filmmaker took the stage after the Auschwitz-set Holocaust drama was announced as best international film, he was greeted with a standing ovation. He then referred to notes he’d prepared in advance, thanked the requisite players and drew a parallel between “Zone of Interest” and the current conflict in Gaza that was difficult to decipher given the audience applause and his own mumbling.
“All our choices were made to reflect and confront us in the present, not to say look what they did then, but rather look what we do now,” he said, according to the Academy’s official transcript of the speech. “Our...

Zooey Deschanel is revealing what role convinced her to return to scripted television after taking a break once New Girl ended.
During a recently published interview with Vanity Fair, conducted before the SAG-AFTRA strike, the actress said she decided to step away from acting temporarily to spend time with her two children. But she admitted that she also got so burned out from playing quirky Jess Day for seven seasons on the Fox comedy that she needed a break and even considered never returning to TV.
“It was a huge undertaking,” Deschanel added. “I couldn’t picture myself getting back into the game like that, especially not right away.”
Before New Girl, the actress was known for her roles in several movies, including 500 Days of Summer, Elf, Almost Famous, The Good Girl and Our Idiot Brother. So as she eased back into the industry, years after the Fox...

The Adults is a family comedy-drama film, but it is R-rated because of its adult language. Written & Directed by Dustin Guy Defa, The Adults follows Eric as he takes a short trip back home to meet his sisters and old friends but the short trip turns into a mess of unresolved familial issues and a trip down the nostalgic lane. Michael Cera is producing and starring in the film. So, if you like The Adults, here are some similar movies you could watch next.

If you’re a fan of true crime documentaries or early millennium classic cartoons then boy does Hulu’s list of new releases have some great news for you!
Hulu continues its implicit understanding that streaming services are basically true crime distribution machines this month with a trio of intriguing titles. While it’s not necessarily true crime per se, The Ashley Madison Affair about the notorious dating platform premieres on July 7. That will be followed by Betrayal: The Perfect Husband on July 11, which is based on a compelling podcast of the same name. The Jewel Thief arrives on July 13 to provide an account of Gerald Blanchard, one of history’s most creative criminals.
But where does the cartoon excitement comes in? Well, that’s because season 11 of Matt Groening’s beloved Futurama premieres on July 24. Fry, Leela, the Professor, and Bender will all return for a direct continuation of...

Apple TV+ is turning yet another bestselling book into a streaming series, much like it's done in the past with shows such as "Pachinko" and "The Essex Serpent." With its list of new releases for September 2022, Prime Video is finally unveiling the most anticipated (and expensive) series in the streamer’s history.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will arrive to Prime Video’s servers on Sept. 2, 2022. This Lord of the Rings prequel, set in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Second Age, is in many ways the kind of TV property that Prime Video must have always wanted. It’s certainly the TV property most fitting with the company’s largesse and riches. The Rings of Power will cover the creation of the titular rings and many important events from Tolkien’s lore (condensed into a more TV-appropriate timeframe).
Middle-earth is going to be the happening spot on Amazon and the streaming world at large this month, but Prime Video does have a handful of other originals for the fantasy-phobic. Flight/Risk, a documentary about the Boeing 737 Max design disasters,...

While queer comedians have been the hottest thing in stand-up for the last decade, it’s no secret that Hollywood is always the last one to get the joke.
As the likes of Kate McKinnon, Billy Eichner, and Bowen Yang ascended from New York’s musty improv theaters to the casts of “Saturday Night Live” and Disney remakes, the last decade has brought a remarkable shift in not only queer visibility but something far more substantial — queer influence. Queer TV shows like “The Other Two,” “Search Party,” and “Schitt’s Creek” reflect this sea change, but so far movies have been much slower on the uptake.
That all changes this year, with the release of two mainstream comedy movies from gay writers who also star in their projects. While Eichner’s major studio rom-com “Bros” is set to hit theaters in September, Joel Kim Booster’s “Fire Island” opens Pride month...

Update, October 14: Former child star Matthew Mindler died by suicide by using sodium nitrate that he ordered from Amazon.com, his mother said today.
Mindler bought the product for $15. The Lancaster County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that he died from suicide by sodium nitrate toxicity. Sodium nitrate is used to preserve foods and kills by causing low blood pressure and limiting the flow of oxygen to the body.
Monica Mindler said she discovered the Amazon connection while looking at her son’s internet search history after his death. The actor looked up information on buying sodium nitrate and how it was used to end life painlessly. He ordered enough to kill four people, she said.
Monica Mindler said she wanted to warn other families who might be unaware of the dangers of the substance.
Amazon has not yet commented.

“The Shrink Next Door” marks a reunion for Ferrell and Rudd, whose chemistry made the “Anchorman” films major commercial successes. The Apple TV+ series also marks a return to starring television roles for the duo, as well as one more collaboration between frequent acting cohorts, Rudd and Hahn. The eight-episode series will premiere November 12 on Apple TV+.
Apple’s synopsis for the upcoming series reads: “Inspired by true events and an original podcast of the same name, ‘The Shrink Next Door’ follows the decades-long manipulation and exploitation by psychiatrist Dr. Isaac ‘Ike’ Herschkopf (Rudd) and his longtime patient Martin ‘Marty’ Markowitz (Ferrell). February may be the shortest month, but that doesn’t mean streaming services can ignore their duty to entertain us at all times. In that mission, Netflix is making a decent effort in February 2021. This isn’t the most jam-packed month the major streamer has trotted out just yet but there are plenty of new originals to get the job done.
Netflix has a few original series of note this month. The party begins with Kid Cosmic on Feb. 2. This animated series is a comic-tinged adventure from Craig McCracken, creator of the Powerpuff Girls. That’s followed by the Sarah Chalke and Katherine Heigl-starring Firefly Lane on Feb. 3 and Behind Her Eyes on Feb. 17. Perhaps the biggest sleeper this month, however, is Tribes of Europa. This post-apocalyptic adventure series premieres on Feb. 19.

As the year winds down, streaming services appear to be taking a step back, licking their wounds from this strange pandemic production season, and looking to a hopefully brighter future. This is all to say that Hulu‘s list of new releases for December 2020 isn’t quite its most inspiring batch yet…and that’s Ok.
Hulu’s biggest original title this month is undoubtedly The Hardy Boys. This adaptation of the classic boy detective novels is aimed at younger audiences and will premiere on Dec. 4. Then, near the end of the month, Hulu is bringing a new season of a show that is decidedly not for younger audiences. Season 9 of the very funny and very Canadian Letterkenny arrives on Dec. 26.
Hulu also has some recent movies of note coming in December including Amy Seimetz’s diabolical She Dies Tomorrow on Dec. 4 and children’s movie The Secret Garden on Dec.

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, as the various streaming services are stocking their libraries with some great new titles this December to keep us going through the festive period. When it comes to Hulu, the Disney-owned platform is adding a few holiday-related movies and TV shows, but is mostly taking the track of stuffing itself full of classic films that the whole family can enjoy.
This includes a bunch of the best James Bond pics ever made, like GoldenEye, The Spy Who Loved Me, Goldfinger and, the one that kicked it all off, Dr. No. That would be a perfect watch to honor Sean Connery, who sadly passed away earlier this year.
Other action movies you might want to check out this December, meanwhile, include The Hurt Locker, The Fifth Element, 2003’s Hulk and the two “Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon” flicks, The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons.
