The long-awaited upgrade to Crytek’s Hunt: Showdown will arrive later this summer. After teasing fans earlier this year, the update for Hunt: Showdown will launch on August 15th, bringing with it a new map, Cryengine version 5.11, performance improvements, as new Ui/Ux design and more.
The announcement was accompanied by a new video from the development team behind Hunt: Showdown outlining what players can expect in the upcoming weeks.
Sadly for last-gen players (those on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One), the update marks the end of support for those consoles. However, Crytek has stated that there will be a free upgrade available for those who previously purchased the game, and are moving on to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series.
Alongside the upgrade, players can expect “a mountain of new content” this summer for Hunt: Showdown. The team will be releasing more teasers, updates, and responses to player concerns ahead of the August launch date.

The multiplayer Fps genre is jam-packed with titles like Call of Duty, Apex Legends, and many more. So to provide a breath of fresh air, a brand new tactical shooter from Madfinger Games is here, called Gray Zone Warfare. And after the controversies regarding Escape from Tarkov, this game is hopefully going to be the perfect alternative to that.
The game was released exclusively on Steam on April 30 and has already started garnering acclaim from players. However, there has been a major allegation against the game, which might blow your mind.
Has Gray Zone Warfare Copied Certain Elements?
Gray Zone Warfare has allegedly used someone else’s work.
Recently, a designer named Simon Mercuzot has made some serious allegations that Gray Zone Warfare has used his work without his authorization. Mercuzot has a profile on ArtStation, where he regularly updates his work on designing weapons for several games. He is...

Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 is without a doubt one of the most anticipated games of 2024. It will be launching very soon on Xbox Series consoles and PC exclusively. Fans everywhere are eagerly awaiting its launch. There are a number of reasons for the hype around it, but the biggest one is that it is being made using some of the best technologies available to developers.
It is being designed on Unreal Engine 5. Its developers are literally scanning real locations to recreate their photos realistically in the game. Ninja Theory’s new motion capture studio makes sure that players get a look at one of the most expressive characters ever. But the best of them all is the audio technology being used in it. Developers are using binaural audio technology, so Hellblade 2 takes players to a whole new world.

Arrowhead Gaming Studios’ Helldivers 2 is certainly one of the most popular games in the world right now, so naturally, many other developers are looking to collaborate with Arrowhead to give fans exclusive crossovers. Dead by Daylight‘s official X account recently posted a Player Satisfaction Survey in which fans were asked to answer various questions about the game.
Helldivers 2
One of these questions asked fans to describe their experience with various popular video games and Helldivers 2 was also a part of this list. The list consisted of many other games like Payday 2, Left 4 Dead, and Five Nights at Freddy’s: Security Breach. Many fans believe that this survey was conducted in order to analyze players’ demand and plan a crossover accordingly.
A crossover between Dead by Daylight and Helldivers 2 is indeed a bit unusual but there is a character in the game that could lead the Automatons in this crossover: Berserker.

Looking for something a little darker in your post-apocalyptic Mmo, and Fallout 76 isn’t quite cutting it? Developer Starry Studio’s upcoming co-op survival Mmo Once Human might be for you. The open-world survival game recently had a closed beta test on Steam that saw its initial 20,000 player count extended to 50,000 players.
Slated for a Q3 2024 release, Once Human sees players waking up after a cataclysmic event where everything has become infested by an alien entity known as Stardust. You yourself have been affected, turned into a meta-human with no memory of who you were. As a meta-human, your quest is to find the truth about Stardust, find out where it came from, and what it wants. Along the way, you’ll need to navigate between the five different factions in the world, which each have their own goals.
Just because you’re a meta-human, doesn’t mean you’re invincible.

Five years on, and Crytek is still keeping at it with their PvPvE shooter Hunt: Showdown. And much like what Behaviour Interactive did with an engine upgrade for Dead By Daylight a few years ago, Crytek is also following suit next year with Hunt: Showdown upgrading to the latest version of CryEngine for PC and consoles.
Speaking with PC Gamer, Hunt general manager David Fifield, Hunt enters “a new era” with the upgrade, which despite what some players want, is as close to a proposed sequel as you’ll get for the time being. “That has been a conversation internally about when or if we should rename or rebrand the product with some major update, or when we launch with the integrated engine update to run native on the latest generation of consoles. Watching how those transitions have gone with other service games, we decided on continuing Hunt: Showdown and...

If you were looking for team-based Fps that dives headfirst into Lovecraftian lore, then Cathedral Studios’ The Bornless is one that will pique your interest. Currently slated for an Early Access release on Steam and the Epic Games Store in 2024, the game is aimed squarely at Dead by Daylight and Hunt: Showdown fans, focusing on teamwork and strategy while combining rich lore and visuals.
The Bornless plunges players into a world where demonic forces interweave with the human realm, wreaking havoc and seeding mystery in the idyllic North American town of Farmouth. Players will discover the secrets of the ominous Church of Orobas and stave off the unholy powers threatening to annihilate the universe’s balance. In addition to teamwork, you’ll also be conjuring demons to aid you in combat, as well as collect and upgrade weapons. You’ll also have to employ resource management in order to survive.

We need more Western-themed horror games. And while something like Hunt: Showdown can fit the bill, there’s definitely room for more. That’s what developer Michael Janisch is aiming to capitalize on with their upcoming Survival Horror shooter, Huntsville, which is aiming for a Q2 2024 release on Steam.
Inspired by the myth of the “Skinwalker Ranch”, Huntsville centres on an occult priest’s failed ritual that has allowed supernatural creatures to enter our world. Said otherworldly creatures are now wreaking havoc on the community of a remote mountain village. Luckily for them, a lost stranger (that’s you) has shown up to clean things up.
Similar to other survival titles, you’ll have to scrounge up resources like firearms, food, water and building materials in order to hold your own. Luckily for you packrats, you can craft a storage box in your base to keep all the things you found on your adventure.

Crytek’s Hunt: Showdown will be getting another monster for players to slay in the upcoming “Tide of Shadows” event. Initially teased during in the “Ward of the Reptilian” update a few months ago, the monstrous croc known as Rotjaw is the first of what Hunt: Showdown refers to as a Wild Target.
Fused to a cage and breaking out of it when she reaches a certain level, Rotjaw prowls deep water areas stalking any intruders who may stumble upon her. If Hunters do come across her, she will charge through the water, biting and knocking down players who venture too close.
“We are eager to show off our brand-new Wild Target, Rotjaw. The team put a tremendous amount of care and effort into her initial concept, art, design mechanics, and her backstory tied to our new trilogy of events,” explains David Fifield, General Manager of Hunt: Showdown. “We hope...

One of the biggest surprises of the recent PlayStation Showcase was the reveal of Bungie’s new Marathon game. While Marathon is Bungie’s first new project in quite some time, the game’s name is obviously a nod to 1994’s Marathon: the game that put Bungie on the map. So how closely connected are those two titles?
Well, from a gameplay perspective, they seemingly have little in common. 1994’s Marathon was a sci-fi Fps that injected a rich genre narrative into a Doom-style Fps. The new Marathon is described as a “sci-fi PvP extraction shooter.” For those who don’t know, extraction shooters are an emerging spin-off of the battle royale genre. Popularized by games like Hunt: Showdown and Escape From Tarkov, extraction shooters often drop you into a hostile area and task you with collecting as much loot as you can before you extract. Extract too soon, and...

Fresh from its fifth anniversary celebrations, Crytek has dropped another big update for their tactical PvPvE Fps Hunt: Showdown. The 1.12 update brings with it “The Ward of the Reptilian”, which in addition to the usual bug fixes and improvements, adds two questlines with all-new rewards, and dramatically improves the new player onboarding experience with two bonus tutorials.
The first main questline, the eponymous “The Ward of the Reptilian”, is available March 29 through May 1, which will be followed by “Vengeance of the Skinned”. Both questlines offers new activities and valuable rewards to earn across six acts, including new weapon variants, Legendary equipment, and more. In addition, players can complete quests within questlines together for the first time. This means that other team members can now contribute to each other’s progress during a match. For example, if your quest is to “Kill enemy Hunters,” your teammate’s kills will also count towards completing the quest.

Before diving into this week’s Bioshock discussion, would you kindly give last week’s episode covering Hunt: Showdown a listen?
At the inception of Safe Room, Neil and I had both made mental checklists of games we simply Had to talk about on the show. Games that we felt so passionately about that one of us would have to whack the other with a stick to get a word in edgewise.
For me, that game would be Bioshock.
Experiencing the descent to the underwater dystopia of Rapture will forever be a formative moment in my gaming history. It sounds like hyperbole, but at the time, Bioshock truly opened my eyes to the storytelling potential of video games.
In an era where my high school days primarily consisted of playing shooters until the wee hours of the morning with friends, Bioshock presented me with a rich, thematically laced world that...

Before diving into this week’s new horrifying episode of Safe Room, check out last week’s Horror Bytes discussion. There is no other game in the multiplayer space quite like Hunt: Showdown.
