Torrential downpour could not dampen the celebratory spirit at the premiere of “Bob Marley: One Love,” held at Westwood’s Regency Village Theatre on Feb. 6 — a momentous date, as yesterday would’ve been the Jamaican reggae legend’s 79th birthday.
The evening included appearances by star Kingsley Ben-Adir, producer Ziggy Marley and a plethora of other stars, including Stevie Wonder and executive producer Brad Pitt, who surreptitiously arrived at the event in support of his Plan B production.
Not long after posing alongside Pitt, Ben-Adir stopped on the red carpet to speak with Variety about transforming into the inimitable Bob Marley. He recalled the very first moment he stepped onto set in full wardrobe — complete with a wig of dreadlocks — to embody the essence of the beloved musician.

Margot Robbie is looking to her next role: director.
The “Barbie” actress and LuckyChap producer told Variety that directing is a “dear ambition” of hers to add to her multi-hyphenate talents. Robbie founded LuckyChap, which produced “Barbie” and “Saltburn” in 2023, as well as past Oscar-winning film “I, Tonya.”
“The tricky thing is, as much as I say I’m strict about saying no as a producer, I also get so excited with all the things that I could produce that it ends up taking up all my time,” Robbie said. “And as an actor, I get to work with so many brilliant directors and watch them do it — it’s like having a front-row seat to the best master class in the world. So it’s really tempting to keep doing that. But directing is a dear ambition of mine.”

Britney Spears’ “The Woman in Me” might be on the big screen, just not with Margot Robbie producing — or playing her.
Spears’ bestselling memoir, which already landed even more star power thanks to Oscar winner Michelle Williams’ viral narration of the audiobook, will be adapted for a film or TV project. Page Six reported that “multiple sources” hinted that Robbie’s LuckyChap production company was interested in adapting Spears’ book, along with Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine and Brad Pitt’s Plan B.
However, at the 2023 Variety Power of Women Los Angeles event, Robbie confirmed to Access Hollywood in the below video that the rumor of LuckyChap’s possible involvement were “not true.”
“No, I’m just hearing that tonight. It’s not true,” Robbie said.

Following an extensive auction, LuckyChap and Plan B Entertainment are in exclusive talks to acquire rights to the classic Thin Man series. The rights recently became available and LuckyChap and Plan B had been eyeing this for some time pre-wga strike. Steadying the flagship: Easily one of the BBC’s biggest ongoing headaches is around how the broadcaster’s most popular stars and presenters engage on social media platforms. The issue blasted back into life earlier this year when Match of the Day presenter and Twitter/X fanatic Gary Lineker tweeted to liken the language used by the British government around its asylum seeker policy to that of Germany in the 1930s and was temporarily suspended by the BBC. After an outcry over the suspension, which included many of Lineker’s colleagues stopping work in solidarity, he was reinstated and the BBC plunged into an existential crisis over how it remains impartial while allowing freedom of expression to its biggest stars.

Naomi Watts and Chloë Sevigny Star in Gus Van Sant’s ‘Feud: Capote vs. the Swans’ for FX: First Look
There’s a new feud brewing amongst the historic top New York City socialites.
The second installment of Ryan Murphy’s “Feud” anthology series, titled “Feud: Capote vs. the Swans,” centers on Truman Capote’s inner circle of “swans,” a term he coined to describe his wealthy female socialite friends.
“The White Lotus” scene-stealer Tom Hollander portrays Capote, with Naomi Watts, Chloë Sevigny, Molly Ringwald, Calista Flockhart, and Diane Lane as his close friends, whose exploits Capote infamously wrote about in the short story “La Côte Basque 1965” for Esquire, which was published in 1975. Capote was attempting to write the shelved novel “Answered Prayers” and used his friends’ gossip and secrets as fodder.
“Feud: Capote vs. the Swans” tells the stories of Ann Woodward (Watts), C. Z. Guest (Sevigny), Lee Radziwill (Flockhart), Slim Keith (Lane), and Joanne Carson (Ringwald) during the 1970s. Late actor Treat Williams also stars as Watt’s onscreen husband,...

Adams's wife Irl, played a love interest of her husband's character, Mike Ross, on the series. Portraying lawyer Claire Bowden, Bellisario appeared in several episodes during seasons four and five as Mike's former flame.
We're first introduced to Claire as a legal-clinic intern in a season four flashback scene, where she's seen meeting Mike, a bike messenger. In the present, Claire returns as the opposing lawyer in Mike's first case as junior partner and quickly finds out he's practicing law illegally. Though Claire nearly reports Mike as a fraud, Rachel Zane (Meghan Markle) ultimately convinces her to keep his secret.

As the two become romantically involved, Mike lies about being a law student to impress Claire, which she later discovers and subsequently breaks things off between them. In the present, Claire returns as the opposing lawyer in Mike's first case as junior partner and quickly finds out he's practicing law illegally. Though Claire nearly reports Mike as a fraud, Rachel Zane (Meghan Markle) ultimately convinces her to keep his secret.

Exclusive: Veteran executive and producer Nina Wolarsky, who helped put Netflix on the original series map, has joined Plan B Entertainment as the company’s first ever President of Television.
The high profile hire signals a major television expansion following Mediawan’s acquisition of a majority stake in Brad Pitt’s Plan B last December.
Known for its formidable film portfolio, which includes three Best Picture nominees and one winner, 12 Years a Slave, Plan B had ventured into television with such projects as the Emmy-winning HBO movie The Normal Heart and the Emmy-nominated HBO movie Nightingale and Prime Video series The Underground Railroad.
The company telegraphed its growing ambitions in the TV space two years ago with the hire of Scott Free’s Carina Sposato and Netflix’s Ernest McNealey as Plan B’s first dedicated, senior-level TV executives. The duo will now be part of Wolarsky’s team.

Plot: In the near future, aliens have taken over the earth, and the economy will be ruined. The upper-class lives in hovering sky domes while the working class toils on earth, trying to make ends meet in a world where virtually all industries have ceased to operate. In this impoverished future, a sensitive teen artist (Asante Blackk) navigates first love, the need to express himself creatively, and his family’s relationship with the occupying aliens.
Review: Landscape with Invisible Hand is unusual for an alien invasion story. Based on the book by M.T. Anderson, Cory Finley (Thoroughbreds and Bad Education) depicts an alien takeover that happened without any violence. Instead, the aliens superior technology and business acumen allowed them to make deals with the wealthiest, most influential humans, and now they have their hands (or flippers) in everything.

Most people spend their entire lives avoiding physical altercations, but in Miguel’s case, all he can think about is giving someone the gift of chin music in the Hulu Original film Miguel Wants to Fight. Hulu debuted the first Miguel Wants to Fight trailer on Tuesday, teasing the next film from American High. The light-hearted coming-of-age comedy taps into the curse of peer pressure, self-doubt, and the mystery of knowing if you can hold your own in a schoolyard scuffle.
Here’s the official synopsis for Miguel Wants to Fight:
Despite living in a neighborhood where fighting is stitched into the fabric of everyday life, high school junior Miguel (Tyler Dean Flores) has never found himself in one. And, to be honest, he’s perfectly fine with that. But when a combination of events turn his life upside down, Miguel and his three best friends —the stoic David...

Abortion rights took center stage at a rally Tuesday for striking film and television writers, who gathered with their supporters outside the New York City headquarters of Amazon on the first day of the retail and streaming giant’s “Prime Day” summer sale.
Linking abortion rights to labor rights, speakers said that film and TV workers in anti-abortion states are less protected today from pregnancy-related health emergencies than they were before the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Roe v Wade last summer. That ruling turned abortion rights and restrictions into a state-by-state patchwork after the high court’s ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
They also said production companies such as Amazon — which reimburses employee travel expenses for medical procedures including abortions — could be more vocal in their support of women’s reproductive freedom and medical care.

Top Gun: Maverick director Joseph Kosinski looks to be sticking to his roots by using real-life race cars for his untitled F1 racing pic starring Brad Pitt. Sources confirmed to Deadline that the Apple Studios movie will shoot scenes during Sunday’s British Grand Prix at Silverstone race track.
Being made in collaboration with F1, the pic also stars Damson Idris and Kerry Condon, and sources confirm that not only will the actors be filming scenes during the actual race, they will have their own pit stop at the track.
Pitt stars as a former driver returning to the sport with fictional team Apxgp, with Idris playing his teammate.
After being inspired by his summer blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick, where he had his actors in cockpit of actual fighter jets, Kosinski wanted to do something similar for this film. Deadline previously reported that in order to get the role of Pitt’s teammate,...

Comedy queen and director of Plan B talks about contraception, last year’s Dobbs decision and the importance of connection
It’s not yet noon in Portland when Natalie Morales repairs to a modest Airbnb and plops on to a couch next to a deep-slumbering lap hound named Taco, a very good dog. Morales is filming a feature about veterans with Ptsd that’s only pressing on through the writers’ strike because it’s an independent film. Its small budget and tight schedule has Morales on call six days a week. But intense work schedules are nothing new for the 38-year-old multi-hyphenate dark comedy queen, whose deadpan acting credits run from Parks and Recreation to Santa Clarita Diet to The Morning Show. She also stars opposite Jennifer Lawrence in No Hard Feelings, which opened in theaters last weekend.

Recent sci-fi drama series that heavily deal with time travel-oriented narratives generally tend to be character-driven, and CBC’s latest ‘Plan B’ is no exception. The series follows a person’s relentless quest to challenge his destiny after discovering a way to go back in time while retaining the experiences of past events and thereby altering them accordingly, and a number of related characters whose motivations, actions, and fate get changed in the process. Although we see the events unfold from the perspective of the lead character, a number of characters play significant roles in the shifting timelines and, much like the lead character, reside in the gray area without committing themselves to the binary of moral positions. We will take a quick look at each of them and have a brief discussion about the gradual development they get over the course of several different timelines.

The character of life is intrinsically governed by chances and coincidences, which control key choices and decisions of living beings at every turn, thereby shaping their destinies. What if we were given a chance to alter that course by tweaking those key moments to make up for the often regretful decisions we take during a lifetime? But does that help much when human nature plays a wild card to turn the table always in favor of the unseen nemesis? This is the question CBC’s latest sci-fi series, “Plan B,” asks its viewers. They recently concluded the first season of the series starring “Suits” fame Patrick J. Adams, as the lead (who once again plays the role of an aspiring lawyer), uses time travel as a plot device to evaluate the human condition by highlighting the inescapable tragic inevitability of our doomed existence.

At this point in his career, after almost 30 years of cranking out hits and a recent Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, Adam Sandler makes two kinds of movies. He can fully commit himself to projects of originality and depth, including Hustle, one of the few truly great basketball films on record, and Uncut Gems, an anxiety-fueled, character-based thriller quite funny in its own way. And then he can return to his bread and butter: throwaway comedies that play like the star mostly just wanted to have a good time with his friends.

The Netflix movie sequel “Murder Mystery 2,” which premieres March 31st, is the highest-profile directing gig Jeremy Garelick has ever landed. But it’s really more like an extra-curricular activity for the veteran writer, producer and director.
Garelick is best known for “American High,” the teen-movie franchise he launched at Hulu after making the audacious move of spending $1 million to buy a building that once housed a high school in Syracuse, N.Y., in 2017. The purchase enabled him to make multiple films at a third of the cost.
But “Murder Mystery 2” is a bigger-budget affair with more exotic locations than Syracuse — Honolulu and Paris, to be exact. He got the directing assignment having earned the respect of the film’s stars including Jennifer Aniston, who also starred in “The Break Up,” a 2006 romantic comedy Garelick co-wrote. That film was his career breakthrough.

Following the success of their years-long partnership that spawned seven original films including Natalie Morales’ “Plan B” and “Crush,” Hulu Originals has renewed its first look deal with comedy production company American High. Jason Zaro (“Brigsby Bear”) will serve as co-producer across the new slate of films for Hulu.
The renewed partnership comes on the heels of the successful release of “It’s a Wonderful Binge” in November 2022, which starred Kaitlin Olson, Danny Trejo, Nick Swardson, Tim Meadows. The movie serves as a sequel to the first Hulu original comedy under the American High banner, “The Binge,” which featured Vince Vaughn, Skyler Gisondo, Eduardo Franco, Dexter Darden.
Coming up, Hulu will release the eighth film on American High’s original slate, “Miguel Wants to Fight,” a coming of age comedy about a 17-year-old who asks his three best friends to help him get in his first fight ever before he moves to a new city.
