Idris Elba is a multifaceted personality who has dabbled in acting, music, and kickboxing. Elba is primarily known for his onscreen charisma but his kickboxing skills often go under the radar. The 2018 People Magazine’s Sexist Man Alive hasn’t had a prominent professional boxing career but his skills were enough to catch the eye of podcaster Joe Rogan.
Idris Elba was named People Magazine’s Sexist Man Alive in 2018.
During an episode of his podcast, Rogan spoke very highly of Elba’s kickboxing prowess and also detailed the grueling training the actor underwent to learn martial arts. As a result, it is safe to say that Elba has some serious kickboxing skills. Here is what Joe Rogan had to say about Idris Elba’s kickboxing prowess, which is certainly no joke.

The final trailer of Maidaan—dexterously cut, let us state t right away—is every bit a cliffhanger in the most ruminative definition of the word. Cliffhanger , although it doesn’t try to hang on to any cliff except the one that materializes when a writer and director, not to mention the lead actor, know their job .
And boy, do they do it well!
Ajay Devgn turns 55 on April 2 even as the trailer of his new film demonstrates that he is easily among the best star-actors of the country. In Maidaan, we can see he plays a man in his 50s. His body language conveys exactly what his character is meant to: this is a man who has devoted his life to sports, football to be more precise, and is aging with grace and aplomb.
And yes, Devgn looks like a footballer in Maidaan: lean athletic sinewy and focussed. Which,...

Dawn Porter’s “Luther: Never Too Much” will open the 31st edition of Hot Docs, which on Tuesday announced its full slate of 168 films — including 120 features — from 64 countries, screening across an array of returning and new programming configurations from April 25 to May 5.
“Luther,” which also launches Hot Docs’ Pop / Life sidebar of films about music and musicians, is a bio-doc about singer Luther Vandross. Warmly received at its Sundance premiere this year, the film “exposes some uneasy truths about the music industry and the media we may now know,” according to Variety’s review.
Excitement around Hot Docs’ official lineup announcement was dampened by the hot revelation Sunday evening on the social media feed of Myrocia Watamaniuk that she and nine other festival programmers had decided as a group “to exit the 2024 Hot Docs Festival.” No specific reasons for the exit were given in the post nor were they forthcoming.

In a move reminiscent of Hulu’s latest dealings, BritBox is now coming under the control of a single company.
It’s a little strange to see streaming services that are controlled by more than one company these days. Hulu, for example, is finally in the process of coming under the full ownership of Disney, after years of being split between that company, Fox and Comcast. The journey of BritBox from multiple owners to one has been far swifter, as BBC Studios has announced it has acquired ITV’s 50% stake in the international arm of British-focused streaming platform.

As per ‘People’, on his part, Elba, 51, shared a hilarious anecdote featuring acting legend Robert De Niro. For his segment, the ‘Luther’ star joked about getting “kicked out” of De Niro’s office years ago.
“When I was just starting out in this business, I was 19 years old. I scammed my way up to Robert De Niro’s office in Tribeca (where) auditions were taking place for ‘A Bronx Tale’. And they started that week even though I was very late and wasn’t even invited,” he said.

After a rather tame show last month, the freewheeling Golden Globes are kind of back. Only now they go by the name the 30th annual SAG Awards, which had a whole lot of the Globes and the Emmys in their bloodstream Saturday.
Finally on Netflix proper after being relegated to the streamer’s YouTube channel last year, the 2024 SAG Awards is yet another shiv in the side of broadcast TV by Team Sarandos as the first awards show to stream live on the global streamer.
In fact, that is likely why everyone from SAG-AFTRA boss Fran Drescher, de facto host Idris Elba, Beef star and now SAG Awards winner Ali Wong and more thanked the streamer and the co-ceo — cause that’s why they call it show business not show friends. A major player, if not the major player, in last year’s contract negotiations with the striking actors guild,...

Many James Bond fans were once excited by the idea of actor Idris Elba possibly playing 007. Although that ship seems to have sailed, there may still be hope Elba might one day find himself in the Bond franchise. But only as an enemy.

There has been very little update on who might pick up the 007 mantle when James Bond is inevitably rebooted. What rumblings there have been about the new James Bond is that it’s likely a younger actor will inherit the role. With Elba being too old, this would automatically rule him out of the running. But there may be other options for the actor yet.

Luther Vandross’ voice was the soundtrack of many Black millennial childhoods. Personally, I would wake up every Sunday to church music followed by his hit single “Never Too Much,” which still stops most people in their tracks to this day. In the documentary Luther: Never Too Much, director Dawn Porter chronicles a his journey to stardom and how he manifested the career he desired.
His path begins in the culturally rich landscape of Harlem’s Apollo Theater. Vandross was influenced by the likes of Dionne Warwick and Aretha Franklin. His earliest musical forays came as part of the group Listen My Brother, which was formed by childhood friends in Harlem committed to harnessing their vocal talents. The group provided not just his first brush with critical acclaim, but an artistic environment steeped in collective ambition that drove him to sharpen his abilities.

No one sleeps easily in Showtime‘s provocative six-part Irish mystery The Woman in the Wall — especially not Lorna (the mesmerizing Ruth Wilson of Luther and The Affair fame), whose sleepwalking antics have made her something of a pariah in her small town. We first see Lorna as she awakens in the middle of a country road, and even when she’s fully conscious, she appears to be in a state of perpetual disorientation. Lorna’s unstable state is further rattled when she receives a note saying someone has information about her daughter, who was taken from her 30 years ago (declared dead) in a notorious convent and workhouse for unwed girls, a trauma from which she has never fully recovered. A pending class-action lawsuit against these cruel “mother and baby homes” provides a backdrop to Lorna’s ordeal, which only intensifies when she awakens from one of her spells and...

Daniel Craig Once Said That Playing James Bond On Screen Helped Him Dodge Mid-Life Crisis ( Photo Credit – IMDb )
James Bond is the most dapper spy in the history of fiction, and any actor playing the role of 007 felt the jazziness of the character. For example, Daniel Craig once admitted that playing Bond helped him avert his mid-life crisis. Craig appeared in five Bond movies before retiring from the role, and the producers are still hunting for the next actor to play the character.
He made his Bond debut in 2006 with Casino Royale, and his last outing was No Time to Die, which came out in 2021. Many believe that Craig’s portrayal of the character has been praised and appreciated the most after Sean Connery. He stepped into the role at a time when films with similar subjects, like The Bourne Identity and the Mission: Impossible franchise, were entertaining the audiences full-fledgedly.

In the 54 years since Diahann Carroll (“Julia”) blazed a trail as the first Black female recipient of a TV Golden Globe, the list of small screen Black actresses who have won the favor of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has grown to include 12 more names, including 2023 comedic and dramatic champs Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”) and Zendaya (“Euphoria”). While this roster has long since covered TV movies and both continuing program genres, no Black woman has yet been awarded a Golden Globe for a limited series performance. There is a decent chance of that soon changing, however, given the winning potential of possible 2024 Best TV Movie/Limited Series Actress contenders Uzo Aduba (“Painkiller”) and Dominique Fishback (“Swarm”).

Whether it’s as an R&b singer, a professional kickboxer, or a world class DJ (mixing under the name DJ Big Driis), Idris Elba has become quite the renaissance man. And, oh we almost forgot, he’s also an award-winning actor.
From his first major gig in a 1995 episode of “Absolutely Fabulous,” Elba began his celebrated career working steadily on television, work which lead to two iconic roles — as drug dealer Stringer Bell on HBO’s “The Wire” and as dogged police detective John Luther in BBC’s “Luther,” which earned Elba both the Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards, as well as four Primetime Emmy nominations. He reprised the role in a 2023 Netflix feature film, “Luther: The Fallen Sun.”
Elba soon moved over to films, first making a splash with audiences around the world with his 2013 biopic “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom,” for which he received another Golden Globe nomination.

Henry Cavill’s swan song as Geralt of Rivia in Netflix’s high fantasy hit “The Witcher” is upon us. The British actor shocked fans late last year when it was announced he would depart the role of the white-haired witcher, who is a monster hunter-for-hire, after Season 3, which the streaming service is releasing in two parts.
The first five episodes arrived on the platform Thursday and found a frustrated Geralt taking Ciri (Freya Allan), a young princess with immense power who is linked to Geralt through destiny, into hiding to protect her from those who seek to capture her for political and magical gains. While in hiding, Ciri is working with the powerful sorceress Yennefer (Anya Chalotra), with whom Geralt has a, let’s say, complicated history, to learn to harness and control her powers. A 2022 Emmy nominee for stunt coordination, costumes and visual effects, “The Witcher” is the...

BBC Studios has bought Stv, the Copenhagen-based producer of a local Scandinavian remake of The Office. The Scandi company will be rebranded under a BBC Studios moniker.
This marks a step change for the British producer, which to this point has had formats licensing and co-production operations in Scandinavia, primarily through an agreement with Banijay.
The Stv deal, financial terms of which were not disclosed, builds out the BBC’s production capabilities in Scandinavia. Stv is based in Denmark but has offices in Norway and Sweden.
The company is behind original shows such as Big Love and Get Lost Honey and is the local producer for formats such as Long Lost Family, Wheel of Fortune and Bargain King. It also makes long-running scripted series The First Years in Denmark.
The news comes after BBC Studios and Banijay mutually agreed to end their local first-look formats agreement at the end of March.

On Tuesday, Danny Brocklehurst’s “Ten Pound Poms” won the Golden Nymph award for best series at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival. Lead actors Faye Marsay and Warren Brown sat down with Variety during the festival to discuss the show.
The co-production between the U.K.’s BBC and the Australian streaming service Stan follows a group of Brits as they leave dreary post-war Britain in 1956 to embark on a life-altering adventure on the other side of the world. For only 10 British pounds, they have been promised a better house, better job prospects, and a better quality of life by the sea in sun-soaked Australia. But life down under isn’t exactly the idyllic dream the new arrivals have been promised.
Actor Faye Marsay, who was in “McMafia” and is in “Star Wars” spin-off “Andor,” said that this episode in recent British history has rarely been explored there. “It’s actually...
