Worth the seven or so minutes...
How do you write ten lines of text for a seven minute short film?
The film has a few meta-moments that seem to demonstrate that the relationship between the lead character and his doll is a representation of the directors/writers' relationship with the audience; we, as the audience, sit back and hitch a ride on the shoulders of these film makers. Throughout the film we give advice on what they could do better in order to achieve their goals and better get their message across, yet we are only met with contempt and half-hearted replies of acknowledgment. To the film's credit, most of the film seems to be a joke that the directors/writers want to let you in on, but some parts are just too serious in tone for this to be one hundred percent true. As the movie stands right now, I've never seen a more honest movie about being trapped in a car trunk, having a best friend that is a doll, and riding a bike down the hipster streets of Athens, GA.
This should have played at more festivals the year it came out, but everyone was riding on the neo-neo realism bandwagon that year. This film just got swept under the rug.
My only complaint is that the lead actor was pretty untalented and hideous...
