The undisputed champion of boxing movies is currently Michael B. Jordan. With Creed III, Jordan took another major leap forward in an already brilliant career by stepping behind the camera for the first time. Looking to do more than rehash a familiar genre, the 36-year-old turned to some unexpected sources for inspiration while figuring out how to be a double threat. The result: a significant amount of critical acclaim and high box office takings for the final leg of the well-liked trilogy.
Michael B. Jordan searched for new ways to film boxing scenes in ‘Creed III’
Dealing with the past has been an essential element of the Rocky franchise, dating back to the early Sylvester Stallone entries. For both Jordan and his character, Adonis Creed, the past is an inescapable part of the present. That theme comes right at the audience once again in Creed III, which pits Creed against...

Michael B. Jordan is “corny” no more.
The “Creed III” director-star recognized a former classmate on the red carpet for the film’s premiere. “Morning Hustle” host Lore’l attended high school with Jordan in Newark, New Jersey, and previously admitted to teasing Jordan on the “Undressing Room” podcast.
“To be honest with you, we teased him all the damn time because his name was Michael Jordan. Let’s start there – and he was no Michael Jordan,” Lore’l said (via The Independent). “And he also would come to school with a headshot. We lived in Newark; that’s the hood. We would make fun of him like, ‘What are you going to do with your stupid headshot?’ And now look at him.”
Lore’l’s co-host Dominique added that Jordan seemed like a “nice, corny guy.”

A track on 1987’s Cloud Nine perfectly describes how George Harrison felt in his career at the time. Even though George spent years claiming he didn’t have a career, “Wreck of the Hesperus” talks about how he felt about working in the music industry.
George Harrison | Dave Hogan/Getty Images George Harrison had a complicated career
It’s complicated to say that George had a career because he didn’t exactly. After The Beatles split, he never pursued a solo career. He only released All Things Must Pass as a reaction to leaving the group.
However, when that triple album did well, George continued to make music and release it. Toward the late 1970s, though, things got complicated. The record companies started demanding certain music. George just wanted to be left alone to make the music he wanted. He didn’t mind if no one liked it.

Update: MGM confirms Michael B. Jordan will make his directorial debut with “Creed III,” opening in theaters Thanksgiving 2022. Jordan will star, produce, and direct, with Tessa Thompson and Phylicia Rashad expected to reprise their roles. The film’s writers are Keenan Coogler and Zach Baylin, who penned the screenplay based on an outline by Ryan Coogler.
“Directing has always been an aspiration, but the timing had to be right,” Jordan said in a statement. “Creed III is that moment — a time in my life where I’ve grown more sure of who I am, holding agency in my own story, maturing personally, growing professionally, and learning from the Greats like Ryan Coogler, most recently Denzel Washington, and other top tier directors I respect. All of which sets the table for this moment. This franchise and in particular the themes of Creed III are deeply personal to me. I look forward...

Michael B. Jordan will not just star in the next installment of the “Creed” franchise but he will also direct the film, according to his co-star Tessa Thompson.
In an interview with MTV’s Josh Horowitz, the actress said Jordan “is directing the next ‘Creed,'” which would be the third film to spin off from the Sylvester Stallone “Rocky” movies and also mark Jordan’s directorial debut.
Reps for MGM, the studio behind the “Creed” franchise, and Jordan did not immediately return TheWrap’s request for comment.
Thompson said she hopes to use Jordan’s new title as People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive as fodder against him when they’re sharing some steamy scenes together during filming on “Creed III.”

After the awards glory of Slumdog Millionaire, Danny Boyle had a relatively peculiar last decade. Following biographical dramas like 127 Hours and Steve Jobs to a Trainspotting sequel to oddities like Trance and the crowdpleaser Yesterday, he was about to embark on his biggest production yet with James Bond. While that didn’t work out, he’s now planning another studio tentpole and has a star attached.
Variety reports that Michael B. Jordan will lead Danny Boyle’s new take on Methuselah. Scripted by frequent collaborator Simon Beaufoy, based on an earlier draft by Tony Gilroy and a treatment by James Watkins, its a retelling of the Biblical story of the 969-year old man, who was the grandfather of Noah. There’s no word yet if Boyle and team are eying a modern-day update to the setting, but it will be a “new approach” to the story, so don’t expect the standard swords-and-sandal epic.

Danny Boyle has set himself up to direct a new project at Warner Bros. The feature ‘Methuselah’, which will star Michael B Jordan.
‘Slumdog Millionaire’ scribe Simon Beaufoy is said to be on the shortlist to pen the script, seeing the pair reunite.
Originally, the story was based on the Biblical story of a man who lived to be 969 years old. However, that story direction has seemed to have changed with sources saying the creative team want to take a new approach with the plot.
Tom Cruise was initially attached to the picture, but Warner Bros. was keen to give Michael B. Jordan the role instead as they are keen to find him more projects. The studio are hoping to make this one into a franchise, ranking it a high priority.
Also in news – Luca Guadagnino to direct ‘Scarface’ remake
Jordan will produce alongside Boyle and Heyday’s David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford.

Warner Bros.’s “Methuselah” is beginning to take shape; Danny Boyle has reportedly signed on to direct the Michael B. Jordan-led film and Simon Beaufoy will rewrite the project’s script.
Variety reports that Warner Bros. considers the film to be a high priority, with the potential to become a franchise. Jordan and Warner Bros. found considerable theatrical success with their two “Creed” films, the last of which, “Creed 2,” released in 2018 to positive reviews and favorable box office numbers.
Jordan (“Fruitvale Station”) will reportedly produce the film with Boyle, Outlier Society head of production Alana Mayo, and Heyday’s David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford. The film’s original concept was based on a Biblical story about a man who lived to be 969-years-old but sources told Variety that specific idea has been scrapped. Regardless, a “Methuselah” film indicates that Warner Bros. has an eye towards turning biblical stories into major franchise fare.

Danny Boyle will direct Michael B. Jordan in “Methuselah,” while Simon Beaufoy, who worked with Boyle on “Slumdog Millionaire” and “127 Hours,” is being eyed to rewrite the script.
The original concept for the film, from Warner Bros., was based on the Biblical story of a man who lived to be 969 years old. But sources say that has changed, and the creative team is taking a new approach with the plot.
Warner Bros. considers the project, which originally had Tom Cruise attached to star, as a high priority with the potential to spark a franchise. There are a few different ways that actors can find themselves the lead in a major film franchise. First, you can have Marvel Studios sign you to their latest franchise, and instantly, you’re a major movie star. Easy peasy. Or, you can just stumble into one, as audiences react to a surprising film that spawns a massive franchise (similar to “The Matrix”). But if you’re Michael B. Jordan, you aren’t satisfied with that, and his approach is more mathematical.

There is nothing Hollywood loves more than finding some kind of intellectual property they don’t have to pay for, and where better to look than in the Bible? I’m not sure why Warner Bros. has been so dead set on making a movie about Methuselah but it’s something they’ve been developing for years. At one point, James Watkins (“The Woman In Black”) was attached to direct with a script by Arash Amel (“Grace Of Monaco“), and after that went nowhere, Tom Cruise (of all people) signed up for a version to be helmed by “Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” co-director Joachim Rønning.

In a move that seems a bit out of left field for the actor, Tom Cruise has agreed to terms to star in the upcoming Biblical epic Methuselah. Deadline brings word of the casting, telling us that the film will revolve around the titular character, who lived for 969 years, and plans to show us “how all the years he spent on Earth helped him to develop a set of unparalleled survival skills.”
Setting up shop over at Warner Bros. under the watchful eye of Harry Potter producer David Heyman, the project has actually been in development for a while now. Cruise had been flirting with it for some time as well, finally making things official once the film snagged a director.

Deadline reports that Tom Cruise will star in Warner Bros.' Methuselah, a movie about the Biblical man who lived longer than any man in history (some believe he lived to be 969 years old). But how can an action movie stalwart like Cruise make playing the oldest man who ever lived into something worthy of his particular set of skills?
This will be an epic vehicle for Warner Bros that calls for someone of [Cruise's] stature to take on the heavy-hitting role of a man who lived for almost 1,000 years without aging, all while developing a set of unparalleled survival skills.

A trend that’s taking over Hollywood as of late is the rise of the biblical epic. In the last year alone, we’ve seen Darren Aronofsky’s take on the infamous arc builder in Noah, and soon Ridley Scott’s Exodus: Gods And Kings will land in theatres. After much speculation, it seems that we now know the identity of Marvel's secret film that's been long targeted for a May 2014 release. And it's not "Ant-Man," or "Black Panther," or "Runaways," or "Doctor Strange." It's "Guardians Of The Galaxy," the cosmic adventure that was a favorite in the 1970s before being revived recently.
Originally, the Guardians were a group of superpowered individuals from an alternate timeline in the 31st century, including human astronaut Vance Astro, humanoid crystal Martinex T'Naga, soldier from Jupiter Charlie-27, and Yonda Udonta, a savage from Beta Centurai. The team (whose lineup would have other shifts), battled a number of adversaries, including alien race the Badoon, and teamed up with The Avengers before the series was cancelled in the 1990s. A more recent 2008 update relaunched the property with a new lineup, including long-time characters like Star-Lord, Adam Warlock, Gamora and Quasar, and it's been suggested that...

Arash Amel has been hired to rewrite Methuselah for Warner Bros. Variety reports that the I Am Legend 2 writer will get a page-one rewrite of the action-adventure film. James Watkins (The Woman in Black) is directing the film, which is being produced by David Heyman (Harry Potter franchise) under his Heyman Films banner. The first draft was written by Watkins. The story follows "a 1,000-year-old man who has used his time on the planet to develop an unparalleled set of survival skills."
Amel is just finishing up I Am Legend 2, and is best known for the Black List script Grace of Monaco, a period film set to star Nicole Kidman as Grace Kelly. His first produced script, The Expatriate, arrives in theaters this fall.

Methuselah has hired a new writer to rework its script. Warner Bros has appointed Arash Amel to overhaul Woman in Black director James Watkins's original draft, Variety reports. Methuselah - inspired by the biblical figure - is an action-adventure following a 1,000-year-old man who has acquired an extraordinary set of survival skills. Amel will begin work on the project once he has completed (more)...

Methuselah has always sounded like a fascinating action-adventure project with serious franchise potential, but we can.t decide whether Variety.s news that it.s getting a top-to-bottom rewrite is good or bad. The original Methuselah draft was penned by The Woman in Black director James Watkins, who plans to helm this feature, as well. The story follows a 1,000-year-old man who, according to the trade, has "used his time on the planet to develop an unparalleled set of survival skills" (and we can.t read that sentence aloud without thinking of Liam Neeson.s Taken character). Maybe Warner Bros. will look to Neeson when it comes time to cast Methuselah. But before we get to the casting stages, Variety says Warner has hired I Am Legend 2 screenwriter Arash Amel to polish Watkins. treatment and deliver a tighter script. He won.t start on the Methuselah script, however until...

With major tentpole films such as “World War Z” and “GI Joe: Retaliation” recently experiencing major structural changes, in both cases executed well after the majority of the film has been shot, the public awareness of just how much behind-the-scenes finagling occurs has gone up ten-fold. Constant revisions and re-edits may appear to be damaging to the final product, but in actuality they're oftentimes just another essential part of the process -- or at least Universal and Warner Bros. are hoping so, as they begin major rewrites to two scripts floating around within their gates.
At the start of the year, the Mark Wahlberg actioner “Contraband” may not have revolutionized cinema in really any way, but the film nevertheless stood out at the box office amidst an otherwise quiet field, taking in nearly $100 million worldwide. Naturally, it makes sense for Universal to keep those involved around, and for the film's writer,...

It’s never all-too encouraging when news of this sort comes down the wire — but, if nothing else, this should mean a bad script is getting whipped right into shape. Variety reports that Warner Bros. have turned to Arash Amel — their scribe on the I Am Legend follow-up that will never happen — for a complete and total rewrite of Methuselah, the fantasy epic that James Watkins (The Woman in Black) is expected to direct for producer David Heyman (Harry Potter).
Those with a passing knowledge of Biblical storytelling probably know that Methuselah, at its core, follows an ancient man — stories say he died somewhere in the 960s — but it also breaks from typical interpretations, depicting him as the resourceful sort who used all that time “to develop an unparalleled set of survival skills.” What he’s surviving against should be an interesting revelation.
Since this somewhat coincides with the story of Noah and his Ark,...

Did you ever wonder what Taken and The Grey would be like if instead of Liam Neeson, it was a really, really old man? The Woman in Black director James Watkins must have pondered that very question because he wrote (and will helm) the action-adventure pic Methuselah, about a 1,000-year old man who develops a "very special set of survival skills" that no one else has. I Am Legend 2 scribe Aresh Amel is cleaning up the script. David Heyman, who produced all of the Harry Potter movies as well as I Am Legend, is making the film for Warner Brothers through his Heyday Films.

This is... what? It seems that director James Watkins (The Woman In Black) recently wrote the first draft of a script about Methuselah, a story which "follows a 1,000-year-old man who has used his time on the planet to develop an unparalleled set of survival skills." Which I guess makes sense, because honestly, what else are you going to do with your time? If you recognize the name Methuselah, it's probably because he's the grandfather of Noah and died one week before The Flood...

Since Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan was such a surprise hit, it's no wonder Hollywood wants to follow in his footsteps with other tales from the Bible. Aronofsky's got Noah finally setting sail soon, Ridley Scott is working on a Moses movie, and now Variety reports that I Am Legend 2 writer Arash Amel has been hired to rewrite Methuselah, a film based on the biblical story of the oldest man who ever lived. He lived to be almost 1,000 years old, and this adaptation will depict him as a man who used that extended time on Earth to develop an "unparalleled set of survival skills." Skills that make him a nightmare for people like you? The Woman in Black director James Watkins is set to direct the movie, and Amel has been hired to do a page one rewrite of Watkins' original script (I wonder how he feels about that?...

It's getting on for three years since the project was first announced, but that's nothing when your lifespan covers a millennium. Methuselah is still trudging through development at Warner Bros under the scrutiny of James Watkins and David Heyman, and he's now about to get a new screenplay, courtesy of Arash Amel.Son of Enoch and grandfather of Noah (who appears elsewhere in News this morning), Methuselah lived to be 969 years old, during which time he did much begatting, the old goat. His death was such an event that God delayed the great flood for a week as a mark of respect.None of which is especially relevant to the mooted film, which is an "elevated genre" affair about a thousand-year-old man who has "used his time on the planet to develop an unparalleled set of survival skills." It's being described as an action adventure, so expect those skills to involve Taken-style bad-assery,...

The success of well-received ghost tale "The Woman In Black" has benefited pretty much everyone: Star Daniel Radcliffe has proven he can be a viable lead outside of the "Harry Potter" franchise, revived horror label Hammer Films has taken its place again at the top of the British genre tree (the picture has taken £20 million at the U.K. box office, making it the most successful home-grown horror picture ever), and director James Watkins has undoubtedly landed himself on the top of many wishlists.
Watkins, who made his debut with the Michael Fassbender-starring hoodie horror picture "Eden Lake," has sci-fi actioner "Methuselah" in the works from 'Potter' producer David Heyman, but it looks like that won't be his next picture: Screen Daily reports that he's changing lanes, excuse the pun, to direct the based-in-fact sports drama "Second Is Nowhere" for BBC Films and Al Films.

FEARnet is reporting that the new incarnation of Hammer Films has optioned rights to the novel The Woman in Black, a supernatural thriller by Susan Hill.
Script will be written by Jane Goldman (Stardust, Kick-Ass), for director James Watkins (Eden Lake, Methuselah).
Hammer Films is, of course, a horror icon. Founded in 1934, the English studio revolutionized horror in the 1950’s and ’60’s, with its series of updates of horror classics like Dracula (Horror of Dracula in the USA) and The Curse of Frankenstein, and making stars of Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee.
Declining in the 1970’s, Hammer closed its doors in the 1980’s.
Producer John De Mol purchased it in 2007, with the intent of returning Hammer to active film development.
