When former HBO executive Kary Antholis convinced veteran British producer Jane Featherstone to board a project about the Chernobyl disaster, the prospect of such an undertaking was far from a “slam dunk.”
“It had to be pushed over the line,” says Featherstone, “and that was with everybody supporting it.” But in the end, the historical drama from “The Last of Us” showrunner Craig Mazin was, as the producer puts it, a “lucky, lucky call” — and one that richly paid off.
The 2019 HBO and Sky miniseries about the 1986 nuclear catastrophe in Ukraine starring Jared Harris and Emily Watson won multiple Emmy and Golden Globe Awards, and put Featherstone’s new venture, Sister Pictures, on the map.
Few in Britain were surprised when, later that year, the production company expanded into a global studio simply titled Sister. Featherstone, who spent the previous 16 years with the Kudos production banner, partnered with Shine Group...

"Schitt's Creek" ended its six-season run in April 2020, and ever since then, fans have been wondering if there might be a spinoff movie in the future. After all, other shows (such as "Downton Abbey") have returned with movie follow-ups after their official finales - and it seems like some of the stars of "Schitt's Creek" are definitely open to continuing the story. In a Feb. 24 feature in RadioTimes, star Eugene Levy said that he'd still love to make something happen.
"We'd love to get together with these people again and take the show and the characters to yet another level," the 76-year-old actor said. "There's nothing in the works right now to be honest, but you know, we've never stopped thinking about what might happen down the line. We're certainly open to anything. I think when the idea that is the right idea presents itself, we'll probably act on [it]."

In 2023, no TV show ever truly ends. Any cancellation can be undone by a rival streaming service looking to gain an edge, and a planned finale often just signifies a pause until it’s time to make a lucrative reboot. Everything from decade-long hiatuses to the deaths of major cast members can be overcome in the name of producing more content.
So when an acclaimed series like “Schitt’s Creek” comes to a close, it’s only a matter of time before fans start speculating about when they’ll see their favorite characters again. Dan and Eugene Levy’s CBC sitcom about a rich family forced to decamp to a small town became a runaway hit once it started streaming on Netflix — and was one of the most popular comedies on TV throughout its six-season run. And while the characters received a fitting send-off in the series finale, it’s possible...

Exclusive: Elisabeth Murdoch, Jane Featherstone and Stacey Snider’s Chernobyl producer Sister has posted a near-20M loss due to continued disruption caused by the Covid pandemic and expansion investment, with CFO Chris Fry stating that the transatlantic indie has “laid the foundations for future growth.”
In Sister’s full year accounts to December 31 2021, seen by Deadline, the company recorded an adjusted Ebitda of 18.6M, more than double the previous set of accounts’ 7.7M loss, although those accounts are incomparable as they were recorded over an 18-month period.
At 35.9M, revenues were also “significantly lower than expected,” according to the document, which was put down to “the continued impact of Covid and subsequently delays to the production schedule of programmes.”
A number of shows in progress including BBC double This is Going to Hurt and The Split season three, along with Sky/HBO comic horror The Baby, could not be...

Sister has enlisted “Pitch Perfect” writer and “Blockers” director Kay Cannon to work with best-selling author Taylor Jenkins Reid on a new original comedy film. Cannon will direct the film with Reid co-writing the script.

Ashley Rodger will co-write the film and produce the picture alongside Reid, Sister’s Co-Founder and Global CEO Stacey Snider, Ilda Diffley, Joanna Korshak, Brad Mendlsohn, Cannon and Laverne McKinnon. Shooting will start in the second quarter of 2023.
Snider is said to have been the architect of this deal. The project unites some of the hottest talents across the film and literary world. Cannon is a three-time Emmy Award-nominated screenwriter,...
