In director Roland Emmerich's 1994 sci-fi thriller "Stargate," a mysterious metal ring, about nine feet wide, is discovered in the remote ruins of Egypt. The ring is found to be a mysterious technology that, when arranged properly, can open a doorway to a distant planet. Actors like James Spader and Kurt Russell pass through the Stargate and find themselves on a distant alien world called Abydos. Everything in Abydos looks like ancient Egypt, and we soon learn that the Abydosians once used the Stargate to visit Earth, enslave humans, and set up ancient Egyptian culture. The villain of the film is Ra (Jaye Davidson), an ancient alien who uses human bodies to extend his life.
There's a lot of cool design and slick special effects in "Stargate," but the alien mythology isn't explored thoroughly enough. Like most of Emmerich's films, it makes big swings visually yet never emerges from the realm of corny melodrama.

This article is spoiler-free for The Ark premiere.
Around the dawn of the new millennium, TV shows primarily set aboard spaceships were abundant if not universally watched. The era produced classics like Battlestar Galactica and the Stargate franchise, but it also found niche audiences for shows like Farscape and Andromeda. Even the most low-budget efforts have only become more revered with time, and audiences remember them fondly.
Thankfully, The Ark evokes that same sense of adventure, only with more modern sensibilities and special effects. That shouldn’t be too surprising given that the showrunners of the Syfy series are Dean Devlin, who co-wrote the original Stargate movie, and Jonathan Glassner, who co-created Stargate Sg-1, the successful televised spinoff that itself spawned several other series.

Amazon is weeks into negotiations on a deal to acquire MGM for about $9 billion, industry sources tell Variety.
Chatter that Amazon (and other tech and media giants) have been sniffing around MGM has circulated for some time. But sources indicated that Amazon’s interest in acquiring the studio has taken on a new tenor beyond the usual rumor mill. The deal is said to be being orchestrated by Mike Hopkins, senior VP of Amazon Studios and Prime Video, directly with MGM board chairman Kevin Ulrich, whose Anchorage Capital is a major MGM shareholder.
Reps for Amazon and MGM declined to comment.
MGM had already effectively nailed up a “for sale” sign: Variety confirmed in December that the company was looking for a buyer.
News of Amazon’s talks with MGM began to swirl this weekend. The Information reported Monday that Amazon was in talks about a potential deal for MGM,...

Alec Baldwin and 11 Other Actors Who’ve Played Donald Trump on Screen (Photos)
Phil Hartman, “Saturday Night Live” (1988-1990)
Long before Alec Baldwin donned a blond wig, the late Phil Hartman played Donald Trump in a series of sketches. The first mocked Donald and Ivana Trump (Jan Hooks) as out-of-touch rich people at Christmas-time, while later skits depicted the couple’s tabloid divorce.
Darrell Hammond, “Saturday Night Live” (1999-2011)
Before Baldwin, Hammond was the go-to impersonator of Trump, starting with two sketches in 1989 and then off and on in multiple sketches over the next decade. He even returned to don a too-long red tie when Trump was guest host in 2015.
Louis Ferreira, “Trump Unauthorized” (2005)
The Portugese-born actor — best known for his work on TV series like “Stargate Universe,” “Breaking Bad” and “S.W.A.T.” — starred as the real estate mogul-turned reality star in a 2005 ABC movie.

Since the surprise news broke that Ruby Rose was prematurely hanging up the cowl of Batwoman, speculation has been rife over who should replace her. Actors such as Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) and Alaina Huffman have already voiced their interest, and a further name now thrown into the ring is Wallis Day.
Hers is a name you might not be familiar with, as her most notable role was as Nyssa-Vex on Krypton, which was watched by approximately seventeen people. While her character began as a rather standard and not especially interesting rich bitch archetype with little of note to make her special other than her name, as the series progressed she became far more nuanced and compelling, due in part to the subtlety of Day’s performance.
Sounds like a dream job!!!

Hulu series Utopia Falls takes a future-set sci-fi premise and injects with a pop culture explosion of music and dance.
Utopia Falls may, upon first glance, seem like an aesthetically clinical future-society-type story, but the Hulu sci-fi series is set to showcase its hybrid genre nature as a paean to the arts, specifically the entirety of a forbidden pop culture of the past. – Let’s just call it Logan’s Run meets Fame.

A former Stargate writer-producer has mounted an online campaign to bring out a new version of the classic science fiction series, which has been off the air since 2011, when the plug was pulled on Stargate: Universe after two seasons.
Joseph Mallozzi, who worked on Stargate: Sg-1, Stargate: Atlantis and Stargate:Universe before becoming the showrunner/writer/Ep of his own Dark Matter, has encouraged fans to take up the call for a new series via the hashtag #WeWantStargate. So far, the response is blowing up, hoping to show series owner MGM that there is a huge fanbase willing to support new episodes.
Stargate started life as a 1994 film by Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich, then morphed into a television series in 1997 by Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner. The series evolved into the 2004 Stargate: Atlantis and 2009’s Stargate: Universe.
But fans felt the final TV series was prematurely ended with its story half-told.

Gero executive produces via Quinn’s House, which produces in association with Warner Bros. TV.
Britt-Gibson was most recently a co-producer on Starz’s Counterpart and Into the Badlands, and also worked on The Strain and Banshee. He’s repped by Media Talent Group, Wme, and attorney Lev Ginsburg.

The CW has put in development Kung Fu, a reimagining with a female lead of the 1970s David Carradine-starring TV series. The hourlong project hails from the Blindspot team of writer-executive producer Christina M. Kim, creator-executive producer Martin Gero, executive producers Greg Berlanti & Sarah Schechter and Warner Bros. TV, where Kim, Gero and Berlanti Prods. are under deals.
Written by Kim, inspired by the original series created by Ed Spielman, in the reimagined Kung Fu, a quarter-life crisis causes a young Chinese-American woman to drop out of college and go on a life-changing journey to an isolated monastery in China. But when she returns to find her hometown overrun with crime and corruption, she uses her martial arts skills and Shaolin values to protect her community and bring criminals to justice…all while searching for the assassin who killed her Shaolin mentor and is now targeting her.

Life is anything but a dream in the first trailer for Facebook Watch’s Limetown, which finds Jessica Biel driven mad by an unprecedented phenomenon.
Based on the fictional podcast of the same name, Limetown follows American Public Radio journalist Lia Haddock (played by Biel) as she “unravels the mystery behind the disappearance of more than 300 people at a neuroscience research community in Tennessee,” according the official logline. Oscar-nominated actor Stanley Tucci co-stars as Lia’s uncle Emile, who is among the missing.

Exclusive: Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci (A Private War) is set to star opposite lead Jessica Biel in Limetown, Facebook Watch’s 10-episode series based on the popular podcast. Oscar winner Marlee Matlin (Quantico), Emmy nominee Kelly Jenrette (The Handmaid’s Tale), John Beasley (Shots Fired) and Louis Ferreira (Netflix’s Travelers) also have been cast in the series which hails from Endeavor Content and Midnight Radio. Principal production began in Vancouver on Wednesday.
Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie, creators of the Limetown podcast, will write the adaptation, which follows Lia Haddock (Biel), a journalist for American Public Radio (Apr), as she unravels the mystery behind the disappearance of over 300 people at a neuroscience research facility in Tennessee.
Character details for the the other cast members weren’t revealed though I hear Tucci plays the leading series regular role of Lia’s (Biel) uncle. The other parts are believed to be recurring.

While the new American Horror Story season is the Murder House/Coven crossover, the first episode is focused predominantly on all of the new Apocalypse characters. There are plenty of familiar faces - did you really expect that Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters wouldn't be back on day one? - but just one familiar character so far. That's Michael Langdon, Tate Langdon's evil son, who showed up as a toddler in the Murder House finale. The grown-up Michael appears in the fallout shelter at the end of the episode, and it looks like he'll be shaking things up for the earth's few remaining survivors.
One of those survivors is Andre, played by Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman. If his face looks familiar to you, he's had a number of pre-ahs roles, playing characters in decidedly better circumstances. Most recently and notably, Bowyer-Chapman played producer Jay Carter on the dating show spoof UnREAL.

Agents of Shield season 6 will be here very soon!
Last year, ABC announced that it would be renewing its flagship Marvel show for a sixth season of 13 episodes, rather than the usual 22-episode order it has gotten for previous seasons. The network has also renewed the show for a seventh season, but has not said if that will be the show's final outing. However, with the smaller episode order and the season 7 renewal being announced prior to the summer start of season 6, a wrap-up might be in store after a solid run.

David Hewlett has built a solid career as a performer. Weve seen him in a few serious gems including Cube Splice Haunter Rise of the Planet of the Apes and popular scifi series Stargate SG1 Stargate Atlantis and Sgu Stargate Universe. Hes extremely solid in front of the camera. Debug the third project that hes written and directed will hopefully serve as a reminder that sometimes its best to stick with what youre proven to be skilled at and avoid the call to step outside of the good old comfort zone.

While “there can be only one Ra,” there can now be more than one Stargate film to hit the big screen. Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, the same people who brought 1994′s Stargate to the big screen, are returning to the universe of their sci-fi teleportation epic with a planned rebooted trilogy.
It’s too early to say when the first new Stargate film will be released, but MGM has confirmed that Roland Emmerich will direct the project, with Dean Devlin set to produce. Both are currently working on other film projects, with Emmerich in particular working with a full schedule that includes two Independence Day sequels. The original Stargate, which starred Kurt Russell and James Spader, spawned a number of television series, including: Stargate Sg-1, Stargate: Atlantis, and Sgu Stargate Universe.

We're still a bit shocked at how much we're enjoying "The Originals," and if you are, too, you'll be interested in hearing about the latest witchy woman to join the cast in a recurring role.
Per TVLine, Elyse Levesque (pictured; Slumber Party Slaughter, "Sgu Stargate Universe") has been cast as the redheaded witch Genevieve and will first appear in Episode 1.13. The seductive and deceptive Genevieve returns to New Orleans with a mysterious agenda and some unfinished business with Rebekah (Claire Holt) and Marcel (Charles Michael Davis).
Considering that a deep, dark secret was hinted at by the former lovebirds in last night's mid-season finale, we're assuming Genevieve is somehow involved in that, but only time will tell.
"The Originals" returns on January 14th with Episode 1.10, "The Casket Girls."

Check out a new character profile for Joss Whedon’s “Marvel’s Agents of Shield”, this time focusing on former “ER” and “Stargate Universe” star Ming-Na Wen’s Melinda May. I remember when they were casting this character, and I think it wasn’t supposed to be an Asian woman. I also think this is the first time Wen has played an asskicking character, but I could be wrong. Her fighting style kind of reminds me of Scarlett Johansson’s The Black Widow, using speed and athleticism instead of brute strength. Prepare for an epic adventure that showcases the hope and wonder of the human spirit. This is a world of Super Heroes, aliens and the unusual – of action, spectacle and world spanning stories. The show will speak to the human condition through the lens of our very human, non-powered S.H.I.E.L.D agents – that together we...

Remember how many disaster flicks there were back in 2012 due to that whole Mayan thing? Well, one of them, Seattle Superstorm, is hitting VOD and DVD on August 27, 2013, and we have its new official trailer right here.

Synopsis:
A suspicious object is shot down over the waters of the Pacific Northwest, causing strong turbulence and ominous clouds that turn violently into a massive storm. Yes you read that correctly. There is a zombie threat in Defiance. Well, it looks like there is an outbreak of hemorrhagic fever in the Defiance game, which makes the victims certainly look and sound like zombies, and there is a threat that the plague may make it to Defiance the town, featured in Defiance the show.

Out of the three franchises with ‘Star’ in the title, Stargate is the most overlooked. While it has its dedicated fan base it never reached the heights of the others despite its 17 season run (admittedly this was over 3 shows but still). For me though it was the one I loved the most, from the first episode I saw (Tin Man) right up to the finale of the second spin off Stargate Universe, this show just clicked with me.
Now I’m going to take a look at each episode, right back from the first. I aim to do one of these a week, so with the amount of episodes produced this should conclude in 2076 or thereabouts. I did give a lot of thought to starting with the original movie but decided that due to the recasts and the different production team I would just start with Sg-1. Maybe I’ll...

The rookie cops of Division 15 may have more experience now, but they still can land in a heapin' helpin' of trouble.
Thursday's (May 23) Season 4 opener of ABC's "Rookie Blue," titled "Surprises," demonstrated that amply. For starters, there was the expected front-and-center story of Officers Andy McNally and Nick Collins (Missy Peregym, Peter Mooney).
Right off the bat, they were seen immersed six months later in the undercover operation they left everything and everyone behind for -- including their respective, fellow badge-wearing loves Sam Swarek and Gail Peck (Ben Bass, Charlotte Sullivan) -- at the end of Season 3.
That case would be closed in the first hour of Season 4, but not before a new bond between Andy and Nick made itself known ("It hasn't all been bad," he said as their job was winding down, met by her warm smile). And not before each of them took some blows, quite literally.

Did you know Joss Whedon is on Twitter now? Yep, @JossActual: that's really him! When I think about Joss Whedon, I think about how awesome it is to have a crazy-talented, unabashed feminist man writing complicated, empowered female characters. Like Buffy, of course. Like Black Widow. Like Echo. I also think about how he brutally murdered Tara Maclay and broke mine and Willow's hearts forever and neither of us are ever, ever going to be over it! Ever! But I've decided to let Joss make it up to me. His new ABC show about Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. now has an official trailer and official character photos, and after taking a look at these badass women, I think Joss can finally make good on that lesbian he owes us.

Word is that Agent Coulson and the boys and lasses at Shield are a go at ABC. Which comes as no surprise to anyone, really. ABC is known primarily as a sitcom and crappy chick drama network, but even they understand the value of a Joss Whedon-led show post-”The Avengers”, right? The official announcement was supposedly set for today, with marketing for the show set to begin on Sunday during the network’s fairy tale show “Once Upon a Time.” The show itself will probably premiere sometime this Summer or thereabouts. Besides producing the Marvel TV show, Whedon also co-wrote the pilot along with his brother Jed and Jed’s wife Maurissa Tancharoen. All three will stay on as producers/showrunners, with the other two no doubt doing most of the heavy lifting since Joss Whedon has other fishes to fry in the Marvel Universe. Among the cast,...

When Stargate Sg-1 premiered in the summer of 1997, it was a transitional phase for genre television. The episodic model was the norm and had been mastered by several Star Trek series during that decade. Even so, forward-thinking visionaries like Chris Carter (The X-Files) and J. Michael Straczynski (Babylon 5) were experimenting with a different model. Adapted from the 1994 Roland Emmerich feature Stargate, this series balances the old-school formula with a focus on continuity. Creators Jonathan Glassner and Brad Wright make limited tweaks yet stay rooted in the “mission of the week” structure. The foundation for this approach is the Cheyenne Mountain facility, the site for Stargate Command. Commonly known as the S.G.C, this high-security fictional location is set in Colorado Springs, Colorado. This base feels like it comes from another TV era, but it serves a key purpose in this show. The facility grounds the series in reality...

If you've seen one SyFy Channel Original Movie, then you know what to expect from all of them. The simple formula consists of a couple of familiar television or genre actors, some type of otherworldly threat or attack, and some budget special effects that aren't quite as bad as what we get with The Asylum's movies. However, they still don't quite live up to the expectations set forth by years of watching films crafted with the help of Ilm.
Earth's Final Hours is no different except for a premise that isn't quite as hard to swallow as an alien attack or over-used as a giant asteroid on a collision course with Earth. It’s happened to all of us.
Getting attached to a TV show and then finding out it’s been cancelled. All those hours we have spent getting attached to the characters, getting lost in the world that has been created only to find it all snatched away from us. There are many articles out there listing shows that have unjustly been given the axe (Firefly appearing in almost all of them) but I’d like to take this time to look at what effect cancellations have had on the television landscape today, as well as the causes for the axe to fall.
Are people as likely to stick with a new show as they once were? I don’t tend too. Sometimes I will watch the pilot episode of a new show if the premise is good enough and I feel that the show has enough behind it to take it forward,...

Ever since the Enterprise went off the air in 2005, people have been wondering what could possibly be in the next Star Trek production. While the 2009 Abrams film has pretty much defined what most of the audio/visual Trek media of the next few years will be (at least until the third film’s release), that hasn’t stopped people from speculating about a new Star Trek TV show. Even Brannon Braga, the somewhat unfairly criticized producer of Voyager and Enterprise, has pointed out that Trek is a definitively TV franchise.
But the TV landscape has changed a lot since Enterprise has gone off the air. Things that applied then aren’t so applicable to a new show, especially when you remember the scores of sci-fi/fantasy shows that have been cancelled in that time. Ratings expectations are lower, but so are budgets; streaming and DVR watching are common, to the...

Exclusive: CW’s Selection reboot has found its queen. CSI and Stargate Universe alumna Louise Lombard has joined the project based on Kiera Cass’ book. The Selection, written by Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain and directed by Alex Graves, is an epic romance centering on America Singer (Yael Grobglas), a working class young woman chosen by lottery to participate in a competition with 25 other women for the Royal Prince’s hand to become the nation’s next queen. Lombard will play the current queen, Queen Amberly. Refined, intelligent and beloved by the people, Queen Amberly is a canny political player within the palace, and knows everything there is to know about every single girl in The Selection competition. The role was played by Leonor Varela in the original pilot last year. Lombard, by Paradigm and Affirmative Entertainment, was recently seen in BBC film Dripping In Chocolate.

'Chupacabra vs. the Alamo' is the eye catching title to Aro Entertainment's new, and probably ridiculous, Syfy TV movie. The Terry Ingram helmed project airs on the ever cheapening Syfy channel on 23rd March. It stars ageing ex-'CHiPs' star Erik Estrada as DEA agent Carlos who attempts to kill off a influx off the crazed goat suckers. The movie also stars 'Sgu Stargate Universe' hottie Julia Benson (below) as well as Zak Santiago, Aleks Paunovic, David Nykl, Samuel Patrick Chu, Madison Smith, Vanesa Tomasino and Anja Savcic. Check out the plot details below....
