Philip Seymour Hoffman and Catherine Keener in Capote
Photo: Sony Pictures Classics As I said in my What I Watched column on Sunday, I finally got around to watching the 2005 and 2006 Truman Capote films, Capote and Infamous. The first earned five Oscar nominations and one win for Phillip Seymour Hoffman who played the eccentric author to the delight of many. The second was released just over a year later to absolutely no attention whatsoever. This isn't a surprise. Technically Capote is a better film and was deserving of its nomination of Hoffman in the lead role, but to say it is a quality Best Picture candidate, Director or Adapted Screenplay is pushing it, but also comes in large part due to what I perceive to be a poor year in quality film. I mean, Munich was a Best Picture contender and Crash came out on top. Yikes. However, my commentary...

What a difference a week makes. Just last Sunday, we were all slogging through the NY Times's Weinstein Company deathwatch profile, seeing in Bob's acute case of ping-pong elbow a sad metaphor for a once-indomitable media empire on the verge of extinction. Today, the company is back at the top of their game, with the whole country buzzing about their brutal, campy, must-see Nazisploitation romp. And that's just Project Runway! We haven't even gotten to Inglourious Basterds yet. The weekend numbers are after the jump.

You gotta love these side-by-side snaps of Twilight darling Kristen Stewart. We mean, is that even the same girl? We adore K's ability to transform herself—some say it's the hallmark of a real actor. But enough about our opinions. What do you think? Do you like your K.Stew all vamped up or fresh-faced and carefree? Or both? Vote and sound off in our Who's Cuter Without Makeup? gallery!

When it comes to sustainability, it's hard to be the world's largest public corporation. It oftentimes means tripling or quadrupling the green efforts of other large corporations just to get the same results. And according to its 2009 Sustainability Report, Wal-Mart has some lofty aspirations, including a 100% renewable energy supply and a zero waste policy.
The company has a long way to go before achieving its goals, but Wal-Mart is making a surprising amount of progress for an institution that doesn't exactly specialize in local goods. While Wal-Mart only sources 1% of its power from renewable energy at the moment, it's still one of the largest solar installers in the U.S.--a point that, according to the Environmental Defense Fund's Gwen Ruta, highlights the "magnitude of the challenge facing both Wal-Mart and the country on renewable energy."

Yep, those of you who know the history of Dread Central know about our roots. We are well schooled in the way horror on TV can go, and sometimes it can go bad. Such is the case with FEARnet being dropped from Time Warner Cable. How many times must we get kicked in the ass? It's time to do some kicking back!
The folks behind FEARnet have set up a Facebook Group Petition. With over 4,000 members strong already, things are looking pretty good. Let's see if we can get that number even higher.
In addition, a new giveaway has just launched on the Facebook petition page. Starting today, the first 25 fans to upload video messages to the Facebook group telling Time Warner why they want FEARnet back will receive free FEARnet stuff like hoodies, t-shirts, and messenger bags!

Funny or Die knows how to push buttons! In their latest video, celebs like Alicia Silverstone, Lance Bass, and Sophia Bush take a stand against the imminent “gay storm” coming their way. The video pokes fun at advocates who are against same sex marriage, which is legal in 4 states. The actors’ characters play day-to-day people frightened by the effects gay marriage could have on them and on their children. Good thing Jane Lynch came up with the giant gay repellent umbrella idea! Check out the video below! A Gaythering Storm from Jane Lynch...
