Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty is upset that of small-budget meaningful films in India find ‘no takers’.
‘I tried doing films apart from commercial ones but the depressing part is there are no takers for meaningful cinema today,’ Mithun told Ians.
‘It is not that we (actors) are not willing to do such movies… take for example I did a film called ‘Phir Kabhi’ but unfortunately it never got released,’ he added.
A love story of a couple in their twilight years, ‘Phir Kabhi’ also stars Dimple Kapadia.
The three-time national award winning star, also known as Mithun da, has worked in critically-acclaimed.

Mimoh Chakraborty, the son of veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, believes in getting into the skin of his characters - so much so that he went visiting various pubs and bars to learn how to be a good bartender for his role in his next project Spaghetti 24X7."I have visited a lot of lounge bars and pubs not only in Mumbai but also in Kolkata so that I can play my role of a bartender in the film in a better way. I researched for three months for the character. Often described as the most knowledgeable film festival in the World, the 15th Kolkata Film Festival was opened yesterday by Mani Ratnam with the first movie to be filmed being the Holocaust movie, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. “It is an honour to be in this city which has given the world such stalwarts as Satyajit Ray, Ritwik Ghatak and my mentor Mrinal Sen," said the veteran director.

Utv Motion Pictures has announced the simultaneous release of their new title Phir Kabhi directly on Home Video and Pay-Per-View Dth next week. This is the first time a leading movie studio has decided to premiere a movie on home entertainment platforms instead of the traditional theatrical release route. Phir Kabhi will be released by Moser Baer Home Video on DVD and Vcd. The movie will also be available simultaneously on Pay-Per-View across all Dth platforms.
