The first look at Season 2 of “The Last of Us” was unveiled on Wednesday featuring stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. HBO and Max chief Casey Bloys debuted the images during the Warner Bros. Discovery Upfront presentation in New York City.
The show chronicles the story of Joel (Pascal) and Ellie (Ramsey) as they navigate a world overrun with zombies infected with a parasitic fungus — not to mention the ruthless vigilantes, mercenaries and cannibals just as desperate to survive. Just as the first season of “The Last of Us” was adapted from the acclaimed 2013 video game of the same title, Season 2 of the series is expected to follow the events of its 2020 sequel, “The Last of Us Part II,” which deals with the fallout from Joel’s actions in the season 1 finale.

Twenty years ago, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage’s breakout hit The O.C., about a group of teens coming of age in Newport Beach, premiered on Fox. By the time the 27-episode first season aired its finale in the spring of 2004, the show was the highest-rated drama on TV among adults 18 to 34 and had catapulted its stars — whose characters were affectionately known as the “Core Four” — to massive, near-overnight popularity.
It wouldn’t be the first or last young adult series in the U.S. to generate a cultural frenzy. But the industry ecosystem that birthed and defined zeitgeisty YA shows like it — 22-episode drama series with largely white casts found through in-person auditions — is vanishing. As viewers have increasingly abandoned broadcast and cable TV, the linear networks these shows called home (Fox, The WB, Upn, The CW, MTV and Freeform) have also faced mergers, acquisitions, multiple rebrands or given...

And we can’t forget Twister Sister frontman Dee Snider, who believes that he can pin point the exact moment that metal started to become less metal….when Bon Jovi smiled, creating what many like to call “happy metal”. While others say that Bon Jovi’s music brought a fresh new light to the genre causing millions of other smiles to spread throughout the world. The Killers have unveiled their greatest hits album, Rebel Diamonds, which features a newly released song called “Spirit.”
Rebel Diamonds features songs from all seven of The Killers’ studio albums, and is ordered chronologically to make up a 20-track record. “20 songs for 20 years,” Flowers says in the album’s trailer. Among some of the greatest hits on the album are “Mr. Brightside,” “Somebody Told Me,” and “When You Were Young.” The band’s latest singles “boy” and “Your Side of Town” are also featured on the album.
“Spirit” is the final track on Rebel Diamonds, and packs plenty of familiar charm for longtime fans of The Killers. Combining the band’s classic throttle with ’80s synth-pop-style keys, frontman Brandon Flowers sings, “Where does the spirit go? Is it someplace holy?/ Is it holy and free?” The Killers previously played the anthemic track live on tour, but this marks its first official release.

When Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage launched The O.C. in 2003, it would change TV — and teen dramas — forever.
It’s a winding journey that the duo captured with the help of Alan Sepinwall, Rolling Stone’s chief TV critic, in Welcome to The O.C.: The Oral History. Across 11 chapters — and a prologue that teases the wild ride — the trio, along with the cast, writers, crew members, producers, journalists, fans and studio and network executives, trace the show from its early origins to its very last days on set, and beyond.
Not only would the show bring Savage and Schwartz together in what has become one of TV’s most fruitful partnerships with Fake Empire Productions, but it would go on to inspire a library of young adult shows, from Gossip Girl (and its reboot) and The Carrie Diaries to Marvel’s Runaways and Looking for Alaska; multiple reality...

Disney’s Bob Iger recently emphasized the importance of prioritizing quality over quantity in a statement. The decline in the quality of recent MCU projects and Disney films is attributed to the rapid release of content, not superhero fatigue. In 2023, Disney might end the year without a billion-dollar movie for the first time since 2014 (excluding pandemic years).
Marvel Studios faced a setback with ‘The Marvels,’ the most recent MCU release, marking the first MCU film to fall below the $100 million mark domestically. Recently, Bob Iger of Disney came out with a statement that Disney should focus on quality over quantity and that the fact that recent projects, both when it comes to the MCU franchise and Disney shows and movies in general, can be attributed to the fact that they are pushing to much content out.
It’s not even a matter of superhero fatigue, as most of their projects seem to be underdelivering in recent times, and 2023 might be the first year since 2014 (pandemic years excluded) that Disney will be closing the year without a billion-dollar movie.
MCU’s most recent release ‘The Marvels’ has seen catastrophic results, considering that it’s one of the most expensive superhero movies that the Studio has ever made and the first MCU movie not to break the $100 million mark in history. Marvel’s latest move in shaping its cinematic future has caught the attention of fans worldwide. The studio has officially withdrawn trademarks for several projects, including ‘Timeless Saga,’ ‘Eternity Saga,’ ‘Nomad,’ and ‘Runaways: New Era.’ However, the ‘Avengers: Eternity Wars’ trademark remains active, hinting at Marvel’s focus for upcoming releases.
The withdrawn trademarks suggest a refining of Marvel’s strategy. ‘Timeless Saga’ and ‘Eternity Saga’ seemed like potential titles before the studio settled on ‘The Multiverse Saga’. Their withdrawal might indicate a shift in Marvel’s narrative direction or simply a consolidation of efforts under a more cohesive banner.

Rebel Diamonds will pull together a total of 20 tracks across all the studio albums in The Killers’ discography, from Hot Fuss to Pressure Machine. What’s more, it’ll boast a brand new song called “Spirit,” which press materials describe as an “anthem ready to be sung at festivals across the world.”

Exclusive: The Longest Yard is getting another set of downs.
Deadline hears that another remake of the film, which originally starred Burt Reynolds in 1974 and was remade starring Adam Sandler in 2005, is in the works at Paramount Pictures. Rodney Barnes, who was an exec producer and writer on HBO’s Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty, is writing.
It comes from Gunpowder & Sky, whose CEO Van Toffler was an exec producer on the 2005 version when he worked at then-MTV owner Viacom. Toffler is producing with former MTV Films boss David Gale, who reunited with Toffler at Gunpowder & Sky and who also exec produced the Sandler version.

A new book detailing the Marvel timeline has hit the market and it contains an interesting statement about MCU canon from Kevin Feige.
In September 2013, Agents of Shield aired its very first episode. The series was billed as being fully connected to the wider MCU. But as the seasons went on and additional shows were produced by Marvel’s TV branch, it started to become clear that there was a disconnect between these series and the films that the team at Marvel Studios was making.
Eventually, Marvel Television was shuttered and Marvel Studios began producing shows for Disney+ that were fully integrated into the continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. None of this sat well with the die-hard fans of projects like Shield.

Americana act Goodnight, Texas have shared a new one-off single “Runaways” featuring legendary Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett.
The track sees the band’s chief songwriters Patrick Dyer Wolf and Avi Vinocur trading their western wear and cowboys hats for black leather — and heavy-ing up their sound in the process. The tune’s burly blues riffs and chunky backbone are more in line with the Black Keys and Graveyard than the band’s typical folk-country fare.
While “Runaways” is a far cry from thrash metal, it’s still prime territory for one of Hammett’s signature wah-wah guitar solos. Here, he lays it down on his iconic Greeny axe, reciprocating Goodnight, Texas’ contribution (“Of Wolf and Man”) to The Metallica Blacklist cover project in 2021.
“This is the hardest we’ve ever rocked on a recording,” Wolf said of the new song in a press release. “That’s thanks in no small...

The entire media landscape is in a serious transition period right now. Yes, streaming is the future (and that is why the Writer's Guild of America is on strike right now), but that future is probably going to look more like traditional TV than anyone thought a handful of years ago.
Part of that has to do with ad-supported, video-on-demand services (AVOD) such as Tubi, which have become quite popular in recent years -- particularly for those of us who are tired of paying for any number of subscription-based services such as Netflix. But Tubi, in particular, has oddly benefited from what has been generated by other major services on the market, particularly HBO Max (before it simply became Max).
I was on hand at the Atx Television Festival for a panel called "Fast, AVOD, and the Return to Ad-Supported TV," where Samuel Harowitz, the VP of Content Acquisition and Partnerships at Tubi,...

In early May, Disney announced it would be removing various titles from its streaming services, Hulu and Disney+, in a move reminiscent of Warner Bros. Discovery late last year. Despite Twitter bullying the company into keeping the 2018 documentary on The Little Mermaid animator Howard Ashman (as its live-action remake hit theaters), it wasn’t able to save over 105 titles on the chopping block. Disney gave audiences a week to watch these titles before they were permanently removed from the platforms as a cost-cutting measure. Rosaline, Willow, Cheaper by the Dozen (2022), and several other titles with recent premieres have been removed. Older fan favorites like Marvel’s Runaways have been scrubbed from both platforms. With no physical releases or complimentary YouTube uploads, there’s no way to watch most of these shows legally. It’s possible we could see these shows resurface on a Fast service, but that remains to be confirmed.

Before the 2020s, film archivists' worst nightmares were digital degradation or the simple loss of film reels. Now, streaming services have created a new one for them: the purging of original movies and series without a physical release.
HBO Max has been a leading culprit, but Disney+ isn't blameless either. This is, after all, the same company that used to place its movies in the "Disney Vault" during the reign of physical media. It had previously been confirmed that the service would be removing 50 titles on May 26, 2023, including "Willow," "Big Shot," and "Y: The Last Man." However, it's been discovered that another title was unexpectedly included in the purge: "Marvel's Runaways," which is now no longer listed on Hulu or Disney+ (in the U.S. or internationally).

The climate activist drama "How to Blow Up a Pipeline" just got even more punk rock. The film, which is based on a nonfiction book of the same name published in 2021, caught the attention of the FBI and other law enforcement agencies with its supposed ecoterrorist message. Rolling Stone reported that on April 6, the FBI's Weapons of Mass Destruction Directorate posted a bulletin warning of the film's potential to inspire environmentalist revolt targeting "oil and gas infrastructure with explosives or other destructive devices." The FBI, along with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco Firearms, and Explosives Agency, continued to issue warnings about the potential threat of the Neon theatrical release.

An ensemble drama too diluted to meaningfully establish any characters, “How to Blow Up a Pipeline” relies on tension-building music and chaotic flashbacks to piece together its one-trick heist narrative. Using the book as philosophical inspiration,
Directed by Daniel Goldhaber, who co-wrote the script with “Runaways” actor Ariela Barer (who also stars in the film) and Jordan Sjol, “How to Blow Up a Pipeline” features an impressive roster of up-and-coming young actors. “The White Lotus” favorite Lukas Gage, “American Honey” star Sasha Lane, and “The Revenant” actor Forrest Goodluck all add a measure of intrigue to the ensemble,...

A group of twentysomethings converge upon a small, seemingly abandoned house outside of Odessa, Texas. Two of them are former students, frustrated by the lack of urgency around climate change. One is a Native American from North Dakota, who does a series of D.I.Y. bombmaking videos under the name “Boomtalk.” There’s also a couple from Long Beach, California — one of them is dying from leukemia — and a gutter punk duo from Portland, Oregon. Only one person, a working-class husband and dad, is local.
But everyone has gathered...
