The Marvel Cinematic Universe is the one great love and the only 3 words in the world to trump anything in its path. As such, the story of Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr., the rage, and the charisma of the MCU’s origin point were all products of exciting times in the movie industry. However, Robert Downey Jr. is not the only person whose life was saved by Marvel.

Earlier this month, it was announced that Platinum Dunes, the production company headed up by Michael Bay and Bradley Fuller, are teaming up with director Jonathan Liebesman – who they previously worked with on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning and their 2014 version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – to make a werewolf movie called Wolf Night. Now Deadline reports that Wolf Night has found a home at Sony’s Screen Gems.
Michael Bitar is overseeing the project for Screen Gems, while Alex Ginno does the same for Platinum Dunes.

The folks at Platinum Dunes, the production company headed up by Michael Bay and Bradley Fuller, clearly love working with director Jonathan Liebesman. After working with Liebesman on the Texas Chainsaw Massacre prequel The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, they had him attached to direct their reboot of Friday the 13th for a while – and even though Liebesman wasn’t at the helm of that one by the time it went into production, they did work with him again, on their 2014 version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Now, a decade later, Platinum Dunes and Jonathan Liebesman are re-teaming for a werewolf movie called Wolf Night.
Deadline wasn’t able to dig up much information on Wolf Night, but they did learn that the project is being described as “District 9 by way of The Purge“. Will Honley, whose writing credits include Escape Room: Tournament of Champions, wrote the screenplay with April Maguire.

The episode of The Black Sheep covering The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning was Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Brandon Nally, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
When did the Texas Chainsaw movies get so muddled with so many timelines? It’s not a hard thing to do. People get lost in Texas and end up victims of Leatherface and his family. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be a story line or a variation on things from time to time, hell, that’s what made Freddy, Michael, and Jason so popular. You could have even done something like the legacy sequel for Halloween, at least the first one. Oh wait, you did, and it didn’t turn out well with characters that made terrible decisions and weren’t likeable in the first place? Oh yeah, I remember that one.

With its list of new releases for July 2023, Prime Video is going to help you stay safe from the oppressive July sun.
Highlighting the Amazon Originals on the TV side this month are two heavy hitters. The first is The Horror of Dolores Roach on July 7. Based on a podcast of the same name, this series could best be described as a modern day Sweeney Todd? Why, you ask? Well you know why. Think about it. Then season 2 of Neil Gaiman adaptation Good Omens premieres on July 28. This season will follow angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen) and demon Crowley (David Tenant) as they seek to keep the Archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) away from both heaven and hell.
There aren’t any Amazon Original movies of note this month and that’s alright as the influx of library titles is more than enough. July 1 sees the arrival of The 40-Year-Old Virgin, No Country for Old Men,...

Guillermo del Toro’s “Pacific Rim” 2013 is a mecha movie lover’s dream. The movie tells the story of giant mecha piloted by humans in a battle against giant Kaiju monsters.

In what can be called movie geek comfort food, Battle: Los Angeles and Krull have become cult favorites over the years. Why? You can watch either movie while doing other things keeping an extra eye on the screen, have devout fans who can recite the dialogue verbatim and will defend both movies to the end. Guilty pleasures, yes, cult status, definitely.
Even HBO Max has it listed as such.
The 2011 sci-fi and 1982 fantasy films have come to HBO Max and are available to stream now.
“Marines don’t quit.”
Battle: Los Angeles, starring Aaron Eckhart, and from director Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath Of The Titans), is the exciting story of a squad of U.S. Marines who become the last line of defense against a global invasion. It gets the military right than most war movies. Numerous Marine units assisted in filming and the movie contains some awesome scenes with Black Hawks,...

April is about to be a good month for returning HBO and HBO Max properties.
HBO Max’s list of releases for April 2022 features three hotly anticipated seasons of television. The Flight Attendant, which helped launch HBO Max as a viable spot for good dramedy in 2020, premieres its second season on April 21. That will be followed by another go-around for the sci-fi comedy Made for Love on April 28. Of course, the big ticket item this month is something that HBO Max inherited from its cable cousin. Barry season 3 will continue the story of hitman-turned-actor Barry Berkman (Bill Hader) on April 24.
The TV offerings run much deeper than just returning shows this month. April 7 sees the arrival of Tokyo Vice, a sprawling crime drama with some episodes directed by Michael Mann. The series stars Ansel Elgort as an American journalist embedding himself in Tokyo’s criminal underground in the late ’90s.

Ramón Rodríguez has been cast in a lead role opposite Aubrey Plaza in the Hulu drama pilot “Olga Dies Dreaming,” Variety has learned.
The show is based on the yet-to-be-released novel of the same name by Xóchitl Gonzalez. It was ordered to pilot at the streamer back in April. It tells the story of a Nuyorican brother(Rodríguez) and sister (Plaza) from a gentrifying Sunset Park, Brooklyn, reckoning with the absent, politically radical mother and their glittering careers among New York City’s elite in the wake of Hurricane Maria.
Rodríguez’s character is named Prieto. He is Olga’s brother and a popular Congressman who is described as wearing his Puerto Rican pride like a badge of honor. He grew up playing a part: the cheerful, overachieving, involuntary patriarch of a broken home. He’s lonely and tired, but he wakes up every morning wholly prepared to be the fixer,...

October is here and you know what that means: time for the streaming services to put their spookiest foot forward. Amazon is doing its part for its new releases in October 2020 by rolling out some horror originals and library titles.
This is the month that the much-hyped Blumhouse horror anthology series Welcome to the Blumhouse arrives. “Episodes” of that, Black Box and The Lie launch on Oct. 6 and Evil Eye and Nocturne arrive on Oct. 13. Another horror-adjacent release of note is Truth Seekers, a comedy-horror series from Nick Frost and Simon Pegg.
That’s about it for notable originals. Thankfully October 1 brings the usual burst of fascinating library movie titles. A Knights Tale, Spaceballs, and The Departed all debut on the first of the month. Terminator: Dark Fate arrives on Oct. 9. The superb final season of Mr. Robot will be available on Oct. 6. Start playing Pixies “Where is My Mind?...

As we head into the last week of September, let’s look ahead at what’s coming to Amazon Prime in October. It’s the usual mix of great newly-licensed titles arriving at the top of the month and a range of original movies and TV shows dropping throughout the upcoming weeks. But, what with it being spooky season, this time Prime’s October haul is specifically geared towards giving you some scares during Halloween.
For starters, horror fans will not want to miss the launch of Blumhouse’s “Welcome to the Blumhouse” series with four original films going up across October. The first duo, Black Box and The Lie, land on Prime on October 6th. Then, a week later on the 13th, both Evil Eye and Nocturne debut. Anything with Blumhouse behind it is usually worth checking out, so make sure not to miss those.

Despite being instantly labeled as one of the worst movies of the year even though it only arrived in the third week of January and bombing so hard that it stands to lose Universal $100 million in the long run, Dolittle still ranks as the third highest-grossing film of 2020 after earning $236 million at the box office before the industry was brought to its knees by the Coronavirus pandemic.
Robert Downey Jr.’s post-mcu career didn’t get off to the best of starts, with reports claiming that the family film’s dismal performance had seen him drastically lower his asking price to reprise the role of Tony Stark, and even with extensive reshoots and several delays, the best Dolittle could come up with was having their leading man perform a colonoscopy on a dragon.

Netflix dropped quite a few movies and a new show on their service today, but one film has seen instant success and already started its climb up the Top 10 Movies list.
Surprisingly, the 2011 alien invasion action flick, Battle: Los Angeles, is currently sitting at #5 among all films on Netflix, a spot many would’ve thought unlikely considering its average reviews and general audience indifference at the time of its original theatrical release.
Battle: Los Angeles stars Aaron Eckhart as a Usmc Sergeant who leads a team as the last line of defense against a global alien invasion. There’s plenty of explosive action throughout, though the overarching plot, acting, and tone do very little to set the film apart from more successful entries in the invasion sub-genre. There are still worse ways to spend a few hours, though, so action fans won’t hate themselves for giving it a watch.

April has been a solid month for Netflix. They’ve gained back the popular comedy series Community, Money Heist: Part 4 did exceptionally well, and they’ve had surprising hits out of Ed Helms’ Coffee & Kareem and Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction. And now they’re bringing a few more hopeful titles to the service today, April 28th.
The biggest film of the batch is the 2011 alien invasion flick Battle: Los Angeles. It wasn’t exceptionally well-received when it released, and it won’t be winning you over with its fairly standard plot, but there’s enough action and explosions to keep your mind and eyes entertained for a few hours if you’ve already caught up on Netflix’s other big action titles.
The one new show being added today, meanwhile, is a Netflix Original from Mindy Kaling called Never Have I Ever. The series follows Indian-American teen Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan...

You’re probably stuck inside right now with not a whole lot to do. Thankfully, Netflix has been helping us all out by adding tons of great movies and TV shows, a trend that looks set to continue this week.

You’ve probably heard the news that we’re all gonna be indoors for a little while. There’s no way around that and it sucks to hear. It also makes the usual entertainment stuff each month seem just a little more poignant. While Netflix reveals its new releases each month as a matter of course, the Netflix new releases for April 2020 obviously have some added import.
Thankfully it looks like Netflix is going to ease our social isolation with some easy-watching originals, and a handful of fun original and existing movie options. There isn’t a Stranger Things-like Netflix juggernaut on the schedule for April but there are excellent, bingeable shows like Nailed It! (April 1), The Innocence Files (April 15), and Kenya Barris’s first Netflix offering #blackAF (April 17).
Things are little more lively on the film side with Netflix originals arriving like the Ed Helms-starring Coffee & Kareem...

"The old man wasn't that crazy after all, was he?" Time to dip our toes back into the Cloverfield universe. Megan is an impressive "proof-of-concept" 5-min sci-fi short film by a Polish VFX designer / filmmaker named Greg Strasz. It's directly inspired by Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane and the Arg for these and everything else. This also reminds me a bit of Battle Los Angeles, but I better not say that. Megan stars Matilda Lutz as Megan, along with Garret T. Sato, Ralf Moeller, Yuki Sakamoto, Tj Misawa, Edwin Modlin II, Paolo Bernardini, and a few others. This is very slick and well-made, I just wish there was more to it, as it ends very abruptly. Thanks to io9 for the tip on this. Original description from YouTube: "Megan is a proof of concept that can be best described as a tribute to Bad Robot's Cloverfield Universe, considering much...

MaryAnn’s quick take… This deeply satisfying military drama demonstrates that a simple, even familiar story can be powerfully effective when told with big heart and solid craft. I’m “biast” (pro): I’m desperate for stories about women; I’m a sucker for stories about dogs

I might have had something in my eye there by the end of this deeply satisfying military drama, which demonstrates that a simple story — even a familiar one — can be powerfully effective when told with big heart and solid craft.
This one isn’t entirely familiar, however. The honking big freshness to Megan Leavey is right there in the title: here it’s a young woman with no direction in life and few skills for coping with adult relationships who gains confidence and finds purpose when she joins the Marines,...

I’m not sure why I didn’t think of this segment before but I’m glad it’s starting today. As many of you might know by now, I don’t hold a lot of weight on movie trailers with regards to how good a film will be. And it’s for good reason. Too often we’ve been duped by a trailer that absolutely rocks and then the movie itself, doesn’t nearly live up to how awesome we thought it was going to be. It’s because in reality movie trailers are a big business. They play an integral role in marketing of films so the

How do you stop an enemy you can’t see coming? That’s the basis behind Spectral, Netflix’s original sci-fi feature, which got its first official trailer today.
Once set to be a summer tentpole release under Universal, Netflix took over the reigns. Not known for their extensive marketing campaigns, this first look at their expensive new sci-fi project comes a mere week before it hits the streaming site. It finds James Badge Dale, Emily Mortimer and Bruce Greenwood as a special-ops team fighting a race of supernatural aliens attacking the world. While the trailer doesn’t give away a lot in terms of plot, it does showcase a great deal in terms of scope, proving that Netflix is willing to pay top dollar to provide high-grade cinema to their audience. Here’s hoping Spectral‘s story is given as much care as its high-quality special effects were.
