The film was conceived as "Jazz Stories" and remained the title during principal photography. "Jazz" being the slang name for Juju in Nigeria. The title was changed to "Juju Stories" during post-production. However, Jazz music by composer Philippe Razol is heavily featured in the film.
Juju Stories first premiered at the 2021 edition of the Locarno Film Festival. It won the Boccalino d'Oro award for best film.
The 'old lady' (played by Roseanne Adenuga) features in "Love Potion" as the mortician, in "Yam" as the mad woman, and in "Suffer the Witch" as the beggar.
Juju Stories is the second project to be written and directed by the members of the Surreal16 Collective together. The first being the anthology short film Visions.
Juju Stories tackles juju in contemporary Lagos, the biggest urban area in Nigeria.
