Content housewife and mother Basia (an appealing performance by the fetching Gabriela Muskala) has the tranquility of her banal existence disrupted after opera diva Joanna (a sturdy and endearing portrayal by Katarzyna Figura) moves into the apartment upstairs.

Director Agnieszka Smoczynska relates the enjoyable and engrossing story at a snappy pace, maintains a pleasant upbeat tone throughout, and astutely captures the bittersweet nature of fleeting friendships, with Joanna's loneliness nicely contrasted with Basia's grounded domesticity. Moreover, the relationship between the two women is full of warmth and humor, which adds substantially to the overall poignancy. Prezmyslaw Kaminski's vibrant hand-held cinematography further enhances the engaging immediacy of this fine and affecting little winner.
