Olivia Cooke has opened up about the media attention from House of the Dragon, explaining that reading reviews of the show on social media felt like “self-flagellating”.
The 28-year-old actor said in a new interview: “It’s mad because what they’re talking about is this fantasy version of me that doesn’t exist whatsoever.”
Cooke, who also starred in Bates Maotel, said she finds it “so odd” that people talk about actors like they know them.
“All you can do is be as authentic as possible,” she told Harper’s Bazaar.
After House of The Dragon, Cooke found there was “an immediate visibility” that she had never experienced before walking down the street.
“I’m so naive,” she said, “but I think I was purposely because I didn’t want to confront this anxiety.”
Cooke described Game of Thrones fans as “noisy” and said that “having to block your...

Though there have been occasions to wish he didn’t write so much of it, nobody writes dialogue quite like Quentin Tarantino. We know that because so very, very many have tried, fueling a whole subgenre of blatant “Reservoir Dogs” and “Pulp Fiction” imitations that mercifully began subsiding around the turn of the millennium, but still pop up at least a couple times per year. What they usually have in common is a brash confidence in the wit of their snappy patter and ingenuity of their pretzeling plots — as well as frequently being dead wrong on both counts.
“Pixie” is an Irish tale, and as a result also recalls the screen work of the McDonaugh brothers in their more Tarantino-esque modes. But this collaboration between veteran producer Barnaby Thompson (whose only prior directorial features were the lead-footed “St. Trinian’s” reboots) and his writer son Preston goes beyond homage or aspirational imitation,...

Olivia Cooke had no formal training and claims to have no real process. Is she just a natural? A freak of nature? How else to explain the incredible range and astounding talent of this rising star? I first took note of her work in the black comedy Thoroughbreds, and then Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One and the British mini-series Vanity Fair. She is on fire now with three new films, Little Fish, Pixie, and last year’s Sound of Metal. “Game of Thrones” prequel “House of the Dragon” has found more Targaryens.
The HBO series has added three more key players to its cast: Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy and Matt Smith.
Cooke, known from Amazon’s “Sound of Metal,” is set to star as Alicent Hightower, the daughter of Hand of the King Otto Hightower who was raised in the Red Keep, close to the king and his inner circle. Described as “the most comely woman in the Seven Kingdoms,” Hightower has both “courtly grace and a keen political acumen.”
Cooke has several other upcoming projects slated for 2021, including feature “Pixie” opposite Alec Baldwin and sci-fi thriller “Little Fish” opposite Jack O’Connell. She also appears in this year’s “Naked Singularity” opposite John Boyega.

Pixie is exciting new western/thriller set against the Irish countryside, and to mark its release we took part in a virtual junket, speaking to leading cast-members Olivia Cooke, Ben Hardy and Daryl McCormack. We also had the pleasure in speaking to director Barnaby Thompson and the writer, his very own son, Preston Thompson.
We discuss this brilliantly fun movie, the well-crafted characters, and ask McCormack to recount some scary stories he told his colleagues on set. And in our second interview we discuss the collaboration between a father and a son, and how that helped benefit the project. Watch both interviews in their entirety below.

Explosive thriller Gangs of London landed on Sky and Cinemax in one intense nine episode package this April. It boasts a large international ensemble cast to match its sprawling narrative style. The cast is a mix of well known faces and relative newcomers all mixed up in the fray.
But who plays who, and where might you have seen them before? We break down the main and supporting cast including their key roles to date and exciting upcoming projects.
The Wallaces Colm Meaney as Finn Wallace
Finn Wallace is the patriarch of the family and the head of a massive crime syndicate who is assassinated in episode one of Gangs of London but appears in flashback throughout the series. Irish actor Colm Meaney might be best recognised by some for his recurring role in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as Chief Miles O’Brien.
