A sequel to the greatest Christmas film of all time is finally being made, without its original star.
It's Turbo Time again. But not the Turbo Time you remember. That Turbo Time is gone forever, like a a fart from Ted the Reindeer in the winter wind. Admit it: Jingle All the Way is a guilty pleasure that is best consumed in secret every holiday, like cheap boxed wine. Even now, the classic lines from that film are running through your head with a bad Austrian accent tied to it.
If you felt a great disturbance in the Force today, it was because millions of Jingle All the Way fans screamed out in terror, and were suddenly silenced. It came as news broke that Twentieth Century Fox and WWE Studios (yeah, there's a movie studio for a fake sport) were teaming up on a Jingle All the Way sequel. It...

File this one under “I’m sorry, what?” Universal already made some unexpected mint with their Three Stooges reboot from earlier this year, so why not give that same treatment to something like, oh, how about The Little Rascals? What, you don’t care about The Little Rascals? Moviehole (via Cinema Blend) reports that Universal is rebooting the classic ’30s and ’40s television show Our Gang for a new feature that will also draw inspiration from the 1994 feature film that attempted to make the cute-kids-being-tricksters trope feel more modern, with surprisingly okay results (that one also came from Uni). The film doesn’t yet have a cast, but they’ve lined up one heck of a director. The new Rascals will be helmed by one Alex Zamm, possessor of one of the most boggling resumes in current circulation. Hey, someone needs to direct the straight-to-video Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2, right? Right...

Just when you thought Eddie Murphy's career might be taking a tentative step back in the right direction with Brett Ratner's Tower Heist, along comes news that he is slumming it yet another low brow family film (which also happens to be produced by Ratner). It was announced this week that Murphy will be voicing the title character in the upcoming big screen adaptation of the Hanna-Barbera cartoon Hong Kong Phooey. As you can probably guess, it will not be fully animated but rather another live-action / CG hybrid in the vein of Alvin and the Chipmunks, The Smurfs, and fellow Hanna-Barbera creation Yogi Bear. Alcon Entertainment founders Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove had this to say about the announcement: "We could not be happier that Eddie Murphy will star as Phooey. There is no overstating his contributions to cinema, and to such enduring stars of family entertainments such as Shrek and Dr.

As of late it seems like the folks at Hanna-Barbera are having a garage sale with the rights to their old TV shows. In the past few years we’ve seen a horrid adaptation of Yogi Bear, an even worse Smurfs film (with a 2nd coming 2013), and now Alcon pictures has decided to bring everybody’s number one super guy to the big screen. That’s right ladies and gentleman, I can only be talking about the one and only, Hong Kong Phooey.
Alcon Entertainment is indeed planning on a combination live action/animation rendition of the 70s classic which revolves around a mild mannered police station janitor who also doubles as a bumbling kung-fu practicing crime fighter. Alcon Entertainment has chosen Eddie Murphy to voice the role of this crime fighting pooch and perhaps this will be the film’s only saving grace. Murphy can be real hit or...

The venerable comedian and Shrek mainstay will be lending his voice to another anthropomorphic animal based upon the 70s Saturday Morning cartoon, which will make its way to the big screen as a live-action/animation hybrid. Based on the 70’s cult classic Hanna Barbera animated TV series, a mild-mannered dog named Penry (Murphy) stumbles into a mystic ceremony and is accidentally granted mystic powers, including the ability to walk, talk, and do kung fu. Under the tutelage of his kung fu master, Penry dons a costume and becomes Hong Kong Phooey, and with the help of his trusting sidekick Spot the cat cleans up a rogues gallery of wacky criminals Alex Zamm (Dr. Dolittle: Million Dollar Mutts) will direct. In the '70s, the animated fighting kung-fu dog Hong Kong Phooey was a minor television favorite, in part thanks to the work Scatman Crothers did voicing the character. Now the mutt is set for a hybrid live-action/animated big-screen revival, in which the late Scatman will be replaced by Eddie Murphy. A press release recaps the show effectively: Based on the 70’s cult classic Hanna Barbera animated TV series, a mild-mannered dog named Penry (Murphy) stumbles into a mystic ceremony and is accidentally granted mystic powers, including the ability to walk, talk, and do kung fu. With Raja Gosnell [1] set to direct The Smurfs, a direct-to-dvd Scooby-Doo prequel [2] on the way, and Robert Rodriguez still possibly doing a Jetsons movie, it was only a matter of time before someone else decided to jump on the Hanna-Barbera bandwagon. It appears that person is none other than Brett Ratner... let the ranting begin! According to Variety [3], Ratner will be producing a live-action/CG hybrid feature film based on the '70s animated series Hong Kong Phooey. For those who are too young to remember it (or for those who need their memories refreshed), the show revolves around a talking dog named Penrod Pooch who works as a police station janitor. When he hears about a crime in progress, he runs into a filing cabinet and transforms into Hong Kong Phooey, a superhero with mystical kung fu powers. The main character was voiced by Scatman Crothers. The upcoming movie...

*Note: Clickable links will go to Amazon.com, where you can usually buy each title at a far better price than the listed Msrp.
Batman (Warner Home Video, Blu-ray, $34.99): Before Christian Bale and Heath Ledger, Michael Keaton was Gotham’s Dark Knight and Jack Nicholson wreaked havoc as the Joker in Tim Burton’s 1989 film. Can you guess whose birthdays are today based on the following clues? He was an important character in the Harry Potter world but did not live past TOotP. Although he has many interesting credits to his name, he is best known for portraying Lieutenant Groves in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. She plays the role of Blair Cramer in One Life to Live - in over 300 episodes! He's done everything in his power to control the life of his ex-wife, Britney Spears! One of his very first movies was WarGames, a cult classic now. He's famous for many reasons, but perhaps you'll remember him best as Inspector Gadget? We're not quite sure what originally made her famous, but she's a household name, sort of like Madonna, but we call her Rosie. First up, Sirius Black of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Gary Oldman, 51, has quite a long and distinguished career.
