The Marvel Cinematic Universe is something Ryan Gosling would love to be a part of, even though he has not starred in any superhero flicks yet. Not only that, but he already knows the character he would most like to play.
The 43-year-old star of Barbie and The Fall Guy recently expressed his staunch interest in playing Johnny Blaze in a future Ghost Rider project, a role played by Nicolas Cage in MCU flicks. Having said that, during a chat with Happy Sad Confused’s Josh Horowitz, Gosling dropped the bombshell that he would be more than willing to don the fiery chains of the iconic anti-hero.

Every time a movie buff hears the name of Marvel’s Ghost Rider, perhaps the first name to ring the bell must be Nicolas Cage’s, for he embodied the anti-hero the most immaculately in his own solo movie series on the character. In fact, his performance was so on-point as Johnny Blaze that many would argue that no one could embody him better than Cage.
Ghost Rider in the comics.
But Cage couldn’t have pulled off this incredible feat just like that. If anything, he went to great lengths and did whatever it required to channel his inner Blaze to give fans as remarkable a performance as he did. And these great lengths that he went to have made it more than evident that perhaps no other actor could play the anti-hero better than the 60-year-old legend.

Younger comic-book fans might be surprised to learn that there was once a time when Marvel Comics was on its last legs and willing to do anything to keep the company afloat. Before underdog blockbusters like the X-Men and Blade films put Marvel heroes back on the map, they were desperately trying to experiment with their comics in order to attract a wider audience.
One such experiment was the Marvel Knights imprint, a collection of stand-alone stories that initially focused on less-marketable heroes and gave artists free-reign to tell unique and more adult-oriented stories unshackled by decades of garbled continuity issues. While these stories didn’t always succeed in revitalizing characters for a new generation (and often contained the worst kind of late-90s/early 2000s edge), they were almost always incredibly stylish and memorable.

Rumors about Avengers: Secret Wars claim that a slew of non-mcu Marvel heroes will be making thier appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Among them is Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider, the Spirit of Vengence who starred in two films playing the soul-taker from hell. Among Ang Lee’s Hulk and 2005’s Fantastic Four, Cage’s character is now one of the front runners that fans want to see in Avengers: Secret Wars.

Nicolas Cage is one of the biggest names in the world of Hollywood thanks to his well-varied genres of movies, but he is also known for his eccentric roles, bordering on the realm of absurdity. This is especially true for his role as Ghost Rider.
Nicolas Cage
Nicolas Cage took on the role of Johnny Blaze, embodying the Ghost Rider character, in the superhero film released by Sony Pictures in 2007. Despite receiving negative reviews from critics, the movie proved to be a box office hit. Its success paved the way for a sequel, titled Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, which was released in 2012. However, it appears he won’t return as Ghost Rider again following his remarks about National Treasure 3.

Marvel has had a plethora of franchises over the years but none of them could come close to the popularity matched by Ghost Rider, featuring Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze. The first film was released in 2007 which was a massive hit, and four years later, it got a strange sequel titled Ghost Rider: Spirit Of Vengeance. Though it was not a massive hit like the initial film, it was an intriguing watch as the film featured more action and watching Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze and his anti-hero avatar was an absolute blast.

No one can deny that Ghost Rider, the 2007 big-screen adaptation with Nicolas Cage, was a terrible superhero movie. But, it’s nothing compared to the gonzo sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, which was directed by the duo Neveldine/ Taylor, who you might remember best for the Crank films. This was their big stab at making a conventional, PG-13 big studio movie, but it misfired Badly, with the film earning an even worse critical reception than its predecessor and performing even worse at the box office. So what went wrong?

Just like Hugh Jackman, another popular actor is all set to return to the Marvel franchise: Nicolas Cage. The latest rumors have left the fans wild as sources claim Cage could return as Johnny Blaze / Ghost Rider in 2024’s Deadpool & Wolverine and will be a part of Secret Wars. It has been over 10 years since Cage last played the role but if this latest rumor is true, Cage could once again play Ghost Rider on the big screen.

Nicolas Cage, one of the most talented actors of our time is not a stranger to comic book movies. We have seen him having a history with Marvel, first portraying the anti-hero Ghost Rider in two feature films, then voicing Spider-Man Noir in 2018’s animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. However, while talking about his further involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Cage told Variety that he does not need to be in the MCU.

Seems like he will be back. Nicolas Cage is reportedly in talks to star in the live-action Spider-Man Noir show, a live-action Marvel series set against the backdrop of 1930s New York City. At present, there is no plot details have been out about the new Spider-Man Noir show, but getting Nicolas Cage on board will surely give hype to the show.

Marvel Comics chain-wielding, flaming skull-head biker "Ghost Rider", previously appearing in Sony's live-action movies starring Nicolas Cage, plus a guest arc on ABC's "Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." TV series, continues to generate interest from Marvel Studios, to have the character debut in a big screen 'Marvel Cinematic Universe' feature, preferably to be played by first choice: Ryan Gosling:
"...Marvel Comics first supernatural 'Ghost Rider' is stunt motorcyclist 'Johnny Blaze', who, to save the life of his father, agrees to give his soul to the demon 'Mephisto'.
"At night and when confronted by evil, Blaze finds his flesh consumed by 'hellfire', causing his head to become a flaming skull. He rides a fiery motorcycle and wields blasts of hellfire from his body, usually from his skeletal hands.
"The subsequent 'Ghost Rider' series features 'Danny Ketch' as a new Ghost Rider.

Last year, speculation circulated about a Ghost Rider TV show, with some suggesting Nicholas Cage’s potential involvement. While Ghost Rider has already made an appearance in the MCU in some capacity, recent rumors indicate the possibility of a standalone movie for the character.

In an interview series with Vanity Fair, Nicolas Cage revisited clips from his past films. One of the clips features his role as Ronny in "Moonstruck," a working-class Italian American with a firey temper and passion for opera. During one of his incensed monologues, you can see a missing tooth. Cage told Vanity Fair that he had pulled out his baby teeth — without anesthesia — for a previous film, "Birdy," but at that point, "they hadn't grown in yet, so when I did 'Moonstruck,' you still see a gaping hole." A character that is both rough and tender, Cage's missing tooth (along with Johnny's wooden hand) was the perfect touch for his idiosyncratic role in "Moonstruck."
For "Birdy," Nicolas Cage wanted to use the physical anguish of removing his teeth to relate to what his character went through in the war. His character Al returns after sustaining injuries from an exploding bomb,...

For a comic book movie franchise that has never reached the heights of most Marvel or DC films of the last two decades, "Hellboy" has remained shockingly resilient. To that end, Mike Mignola's beloved character is set for yet another big-screen reboot in the form of "Hellboy: The Crooked Man." This time around, the character will be headed back to the 1950s for a folk horror adventure based on one the most celebrated storylines from the comics.
This will be the character's first film since 2019's "Hellboy." Starring David Harbour, it proved to be a critical and commercial disaster. David S. Goyer knows a thing or two about how to make a good superhero movie. Not only is he responsible for writing the best superhero trilogy ever made, but he's also helped pen screenplays for "Batman Begins," "Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance," "Man of Steel," and "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." Not for nothing, he also co-wrote the script for "Terminator: Dark Fate," a criminally underrated "Terminator" film that feels like a spiritual sibling to the superhero genre. This is to say, the man knows what he's talking about when it comes to supes and baddies. During a recent episode of the "Happy Sad Confused" podcast examining his entire career, he admitted that he was saying from the beginning what so many fans of DC Comics have been screaming for over a decade — chasing the high of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is a really bad idea.

Since Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield made their glorifying return as Spider-Men in 2021’s ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ we sort of entered an era in which many superhero movies want to build up hype with special, long-awaited returns of beloved actors in their superhero roles. DC’s attempt at that with Michael Keaton’s Batman wasn’t so successful, but Marvel’s upcoming ‘Deadpool 3’ is followed by a huge hype thanks to the announced return of Hugh Jackman as the Wolverine.
Basically, any long-awaited return is possible now. We honestly wouldn’t be surprised if we see Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man or Chris Evans as Captain America again, no matter how definitive their exit after ‘Avengers: Endgame’ may have looked. Superhero movies are always trying to raise the bar with anticipation, and we have no doubt that this is just the beginning. ‘Deadpool 3’ will be a...

Full Moon’s Subspecies is an interesting franchise. It started in 1991, right at the dawn of a decade that’s all-too-often considered to be a mixed bag of horror offerings, catering to the direct-to-video market that was booming at the time. Until now, with the release of Subspecies V: Bloodrise on Screambox June 2, there had not been an entry in this series since 1998, nor had there even really been much merchandise until the comic book miniseries by Cullen Bunn a few years ago; and yet the vampire franchise still persists as a cult classic.
Subspecies is a seminal vampire franchise, Radu has many loyal followers and that fandom has sustained for decades, with long, long stretches without anything to feed it. That is a true testament to the talents of writer/director Ted Nicolaou, original screenwriter David Pabian, and of course Anders Hove as the villainous Radu. The franchise has...

A new Hellboy is on the way courtesy of one of the mad minds behind the Crank series. Brian Taylor, one-half of the Taylor/Neveldine directing partners, is helming the new adaptation Hellboy: The Crooked Man. This will be the third feature film incarnation of the Dark Horse comic after Guillermo Del Toro‘s two films, with Ron Perlman in the role, and the 2019 reboot with David Harbour. Hellboy creator Mike Mignola has recently confirmed on his Instagram account that the principle photography on Hellboy: The Crooked Man has wrapped.
Mignola’s post consists of an image from the comic and he writes,
“So they’ve wrapped principal photography on the new Hellboy movie.
I wasn’t on set for this one but they have been nice enough to send me dailies and I have to say I have loved what I’ve been seeing. If fans have been waiting...

It was a pretty big weekend at the box office for horror films, as both "Renfield" and "The Pope's Exorcist" hit theaters with Universal and Sony, respectively, looking to capitalize on moviegoers who enjoy vampires and/or possessions. Alas, neither of them stood a chance against the might of "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," which is now the biggest movie of the year worldwide. Be that as it may, one of them managed to find a sizable enough audience while another instantly found itself square in the middle of Bombsville.
"The Pope's Exorcist," which stars Russell Crowe, came in second over the weekend with a $9 million haul, per The Numbers. Given that the film carries an $18 million budget, that's not a bad start. It's not a great start, but it's certainly not a bad one. It's a middle-of-the-road horror movie that worked as counterprogramming against a family-friendly blockbuster. Considering that...

Playing the game involves riding the elevator in a specific sequence to invoke a supernatural creature called “The 5th Floor Woman.”

It’s no secret that Nicolas Cage is a massive comic-book fan, but when it comes to appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he’s not too bothered. Nicolas Cage recently accepted the Variety Legend & Groundbreaker Award at the Miami Film Festival Sunday night and he was asked if he’d ever want to be in the MCU.
Nicolas Cage merely said, “I don’t need to be in the MCU, I’m Nic Cage.” When asked for his opinion on the current state of superhero movies, Cage said, “I’ve gotta be nice about Marvel movies, because I named myself after a Stan Lee character named Luke Cage. What am I going to do, put Marvel movies down? Stan Lee is my surrealistic father. He named me. I understand what the frustration is. I get it. But I think there’s plenty of room for everybody. I’m seeing movies like ‘Tár.

Nicolas Cage has had a pretty remarkable resurgence over the past few years after having spent a long, long time making direct-to-video schlock. Between movies like "Pig" and "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent," the Oscar-winning actor is very much in high demand once again, and he's even returning to studio filmmaking later this year as Dracula in "Renfield." But what about the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Is Cage ready to join the biggest franchise on the planet? Not really, it turns out. At the very least, he's by no means eager to do so. Why? Simply put, because he's Nic Cage.
Speaking recently with Variety in honor of Cage being awarded the Variety Legend & Groundbreaker Award at Miami Film Festival, the actor addressed the state of superhero movies today and avoided saying anything bad about Marvel Studios, even if he wouldn't exactly praise them either. Cage said:

Millennium Media is getting set to begin production on brand new live action movie Hellboy: The Crooked Man, and Deadline brings us some more casting news this week.
“Jefferson White (Yellowstone) will star as Tom Ferrell and Adeline Rudolph (Resident Evil) will play Bobbie Jo Song” in the upcoming reboot, Deadline reports today.
Jack Kesy (The Strain, Deadpool 2) will be playing the next big screen incarnation of Hellboy, taking over from previous performers Ron Perlman and David Harbour.
“Jack Kesy is a dynamic actor who has the ability to morph into his roles. His talent and stature are perfect for this younger Hellboy. I was very impressed with him while working together on The Outpost,” said co-President of Millennium Media, Jonathan Yunger.

It doesn't feel like all that long ago we were getting ready for a "Hellboy" reboot from director Neil Marshall ("The Descent") with David Harbour, of "Stranger Things" fame, in the title role. Harbour looked great, the cast had a lot of promise, and yet, the film flopped spectacularly when it debuted in 2019 both critically and commercially. Be that as it may, Millennium Media is going to give it another try with an R-rated, horror-skewing take on the Dark Horse Comics character in the form of "Hellboy: The Crooked Man." And, for better or worse, it seems very much like it's going to be a lower budget affair, particularly as comic-book movies go.
Even 2019's "Hellboy" only carried a reported $50 million budget, which is modest compared to say a Marvel movie, which can easily cost close to $200 million these days. But we have some evidence that suggests Millennium is going...

Life's been hard on Big Red, so far as his live-action outings are concerned. Both "Hellboy" (2004) and its sequel, 2008's "Hellboy II: The Golden Army," are evidence that auteur-driven superhero movies are the best kind there is. Sadly, however, neither of Guillermo del Toro's playfully grotesque supernatural action adventures was a runaway box office hit. On top of that, "The Golden Army" had the misfortune of opening in theaters two months after "Iron Man" and a mere week before "The Dark Knight." Sandwiched between those two game-changing comic book films, it's no wonder del Toro's off-beat creature feature got left in the dust, killing his plans for an apocalyptic finale to the trilogy in the process.
After the Neil Marshall-helmed "Hellboy" reboot fell flat on its face in 2019, it was only natural to assume Hellboy would be spending the foreseeable future in franchise prison. Surprisingly, though, that's not the case.

Officially confirmed, Millennium Media is developing a new live-action Hellboy film, with Brian Taylor (Crank, Gamer, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, Mom and Dad) directing the movie.
The fresh new reboot is titled Hellboy: The Crooked Man, and it’s based on a popular Hellboy mini-series from 2008. Production is starting next month in Bulgaria, we’ve learned.
Speaking with Collider this week, director Brian Taylor explains that Hellboy: The Crooked Man will most definitely be rated “R,” describing the project as a folk horror movie.
“I pitched an R-rated folk horror movie and the team here at Millennium have been nothing but supportive. It’s a great group of people, and they love horror,” Taylor teases.
The filmmaker continues, “…this original material is dark and scary and violent and adult. So in order to really embrace that, we just don’t wanna have any handcuffs on.”

Hellboy is officially headed back to the big screen. Deadline confirms that a reboot of the demonic hero, titled "Hellboy: The Crooked Man," is in the works at Millennium Media and Dark Horse Entertainment. The news was first broken by Discussing Film.
"The Crooked Man" will feature the third live-action iteration of Hellboy, following the ones played by Ron Perlman (in Guillermo del Toro's duology) and David Harbour (in Neil Marshall's 2019 reboot). The script is being co-written by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and his frequent collaborator Christopher Golden. Brian Taylor is set to direct. Deadline confirms that production will start in Bulgaria come March and casting conversations are well underway; according to Discussing Film, the studio is seeking a younger actor in their 20s or 30s to play the new Hellboy. While 2019’s Hellboy reboot definitely didn’t open the door for a franchise, Millennium Media is going to try again, with Deadline announcing Hellboy: The Crooked Man, which the company hopes will be the franchise starter the last movie wasn’t. This Hellboy reboot is set to be directed by Brian Taylor, formerly half of the directing team Neveldine/Taylor. As a pair, the directors helmed the Crank movies, while Taylor, on his own, directed the pretty decent horror flick, Mom and Dad.
Deadline reports that the new film is set to be written by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola himself, alongside frequent collaborator Chris Golden. The pair will be adapting their own graphic novel, “Hellboy: The Crooked Man,” which was a prequel set in the fifties. As per Deadline’s description:

In the wake of Guillermo del Toro’s two Hellboy movies and the 2019 reboot directed by Neil Marshall, it looks like Hellboy may be returning with a fourth live action movie sometime soon.
Discussing Film exclusively reports this week that Millennium Media is “actively developing a new live-action Hellboy film, which has already been written with a director attached.”
According to the site’s sources, Brian Taylor has been chosen to direct the upcoming movie for Millennium.
Discussing Film also reports that the project’s current working title is Hellboy: The Crooked Man, which might suggest it’s an adaptation of a comic book story from 2008.
In the 3-issue series, Hellboy confronts a minion of the devil in 1950s Appalachia.
The new movie could begin filming as soon as April in Bulgaria, the site also notes.

Enjoying renewed interest from all corners in Hollywood due to his praised performance in the 2021 indie thriller Pig, Nicolas Cage has entered what can only be called a renaissance.
After years of making indies, the actor is in demand for live-action studio films for the first time since 2011’s Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. While he had done occasional studio voice work, with such as films as The Croods and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, he returned in earnest with The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, a meta action movie released in April by Lionsgate in which Cage plays an actor named Nick Cage. Then he booked a chewy role as Dracula in Universal’s upcoming vampire thriller Renfield. Sources tell THR that the actor was paid 7 million to lead Massive Talent and received close to 3 million for Renfield for a supporting role.

Filmmaker Scott Derrickson can seemingly track his reputation as a director by what projects he was offered following any one of his movies. After writing the modest 2000 horror sequel "Urban Legends: Final Cut," Derrickson had an opportunity to write and direct the newest installment in a popular film series. Sadly, "Hellraiser: Inferno" went straight to video and was not terribly well-received by "Hellraiser" fans. In 2004, Derrickson garnered a story-by credit on Wim Wenders' post-9/11 drama "Land of Plenty," which, in terms of genre, was quite the gearshift.
