Netflix continues to bet big on kids and family programming. The streaming service announced on Friday it optioned the rights to Annie Barrows’ illustrated children’s book series “Ivy & Bean” and plans to make them into movies.
The live-action films will be one-hour in length and geared toward family audiences. Kathy Waugh is writing the movies.
“With a one-hour run-time, the ‘Ivy & Bean’ film series will still very much be movies the whole family can enjoy,” said Netflix’s Director of Family Features Naketha Mattocks. “Safe, fun and elevated comedy-adventures, they also have the wonderful benefit of giving the youngest members of the family an opportunity to see themselves as the star of their own story.”
“Ivy & Bean” follows two unlikely friends — the loud and fearless Bean, and the thoughtful and quiet Ivy. Yet the two discover that an adventure can reveal that even seemingly different people can become the best of friends.

Sofia Carson is no stranger to dancing - having starred in Disney Channel's widely popular musical franchise Descendants - but there's something extra special about her latest film, Feel the Beat. The Netflix movie follows an aspiring Broadway dancer named April, who finds herself back in her hometown in Wisconsin after an audition goes terribly wrong. As she takes on a job teaching young students at her former dance studio, she eventually finds a way to pick up the pieces and reconnect with herself. In a similar way, filming the movie reminded Carson why she fell in love with the arts in the first place.
"I fell in love with dance when I was 3 years old," the 27-year-old told Popsugar. "I remember the moment when I stepped into my first pair of ballet shoes and walked into my first dance class. I remember the moment so vividly when I first walked onto a stage.

When it comes to fun, sweet teen comedies, Netflix has the market pretty well cornered. Following 2018's smash hit To All the Boys I've Loved Before (and its sequel), a whole slew of teen-oriented comedies and rom-coms have come to the platform. Our latest fave is Feel the Beat starring Sofia Carson, which is about an aspiring dancer named April who moves back to her hometown in Wisconsin to teach students at her former studio. The film also features a cute love story between April and her ex-boyfriend Nick, played by actor Wolfgang Novogratz. You might recognize the 23-year-old from some of his roles in other Netflix movies - or from one of his family's reality shows. As you tune into the film, get more acquainted with Netflix's latest leading man!

With every successful cultural movement, you’re bound to have bandwagon jumpers. As a plurality of reggaetoneros, traperos, and pop singers from across Latin America enjoy unprecedented albeit overdue global success, tourists like DJ Khaled, DJ Snake, and Tyga have inevitably glommed onto their sound, with varying degrees of success.
None of these attempts have felt quite so cravenly opportunistic and sonically shallow as that of the Black Eyed Peas, who have struggled to maintain a semblance of their former cultural omnipresence in the years since the departure of Fergie.

The movie, which hit the streaming service on June 19, follows a talented dancer named April (Carson) with big dreams of starring on Broadway. However, after a disastrous audition, she winds up going back home to Wisconsin and teaching young kids at her former dance studio. As they compete in various competitions together, we get multiple glimpses of April's incredible dance skills. While Carson is no stranger to dancing - she is well-known for starring as Evie in the Disney Channel musical franchise Descendants - she did have a little help for some of the more intricate numbers in Feel the Beat.
Following the film's release, dancer Jessy Lipke confirmed that she was Carson's dancing double (she is also credited as a "featured dancer" in the credits). "I am beyond grateful to have...

After only adding one new program on Saturday, Netflix have released two new movies and one new TV series today. In a week where the streaming platform continues to add a diverse range of content, today we received the films Goldie and Woodshock, as well as season 1 of Food Wars!: Shokugeki no Soma, joining K-drama It’s Okay to Not be Okay‘s premiere yesterday.
For those unfamiliar, Woodshock is an A24 title starring Kirsten Dunst as a woman who begins experiencing strange hallucinations after taking a powerful drug. Most of the action revolves around Dunst’s character Theresa taking poison-laced joints that, rather than killing her, put her in an increasingly fragile mental state that turns fantastical. While Woodshock divided critics upon its 2017 release, it looks to be worth checking out.

Netflix Originals are some of the service’s most successful content, and immensely popular shows like Money Heist, Stranger Things and Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness have brought in record viewer numbers. While not every new original release is quite so beloved, the sheer amount of them ensures that the streaming platform always has something for fans of nearly every genre. As a matter of fact, Netflix’s Top 10 list is being dominated today by four very different Netflix Originals, and some of them are high-quality content that you’re not going to want to miss.
Sitting at #2 is Feel the Beat, a comedy about a self-absorbed dancer who’s banned from Broadway and ends up coaching a team of misfit dancers back in her hometown in Wisconsin. Critics seems to like it so far, so it should make for a fun and lighthearted weekend watch.

While we’re never short of new content on Netflix, the streaming giant only added one title today. The program in question is the K-drama It’s Okay to Not be Okay, with the series releasing new episodes weekly. For now, we just get one installment, although in line with other Korean dramas, that one alone is 75 minutes. What, then, can Netflix subscribers expect from It’s Okay to Not be Okay?
Well, the romantic drama focuses on the relationship between Moon Kang-tae (Kim Soo-hyun) and Go Moon-young (Seo Ye-ji), and in true K-drama fashion, their situation is somewhat unusual. Moon is a community health worker within a psychiatric ward, while Go is a children’s book author with an antisocial personality disorder. In addition, Moon is an orphan who has great listening skills, but is cynical regarding love.

It’s finally the weekend and that means it’s time to dig into some new content. That’s right. No matter what your preferred streaming service is, there are a number of new movies/TV shows coming down the pipeline over the next few days.
Be it Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon, Hulu, HBO, or Showtime and Starz, each platform is offering a nice selection of titles this weekend. Admittedly, it’s not the meatiest time for new content that we’ve had, as the last few weeks of any given month tend to slow down a bit for fresh releases, but there’s still enough here worth getting excited about.
So, let’s dive in, shall we?

Lost Bullet
Girls from Ipanema: Season 2

The great thing about cinema is you’ll never run out of cinema. Ok, so that’s also true of music, literature, TV and just about any other entertainment medium that humanity has ever produced. But we’re talking about cinema and specifically, about the selection that’s arrived on Netflix in the last week. Indeed, there were quite a few new titles added over the past several days and the following are the highlights.
First up is A Whisker Away, a Japanese animation in which “a peculiar girl transforms into a cat to catch her crush’s attention. But before she realizes it, the line between human and animal starts to blur.” Honestly, anime plots never cease to weird me out. The film had originally been scheduled to release in theaters, but in light of the pandemic, has found its home on Netflix now.

Don’t know what to do with your life today? Well, you can always watch Netflix, as they’ve added a bunch of new content to their collection, just in time for the weekend.
First up is a drama called Feel the Beat. Produced in 2020 and directed by Elissa Down, it tells the story of a dancer who, after failing to make a career for herself on Broadway, returns to her hometown to teach young kids instead – a job which, though devoid of glitter and glamour, is actually a lot more meaningful than she dared hope. Kind of like School of Rock, but with dance – and without Jack Black.
Up next we have a comedy series called Floor Is Lava. Have you ever seen the Community episode in which they play this children’s game? If you enjoy watching adults act like little toddlers, this reality series may be for you.

Elissa Down’s teen dance movie Feel the Beat premieres worldwide on Netflix this week. Sofia Carson stars as April, a self-centred dancer who, after blowing a Broadway audition, reluctantly returns home and agrees to coach a squad of young misfits for a big competition.
The director tells If how she landed her first Netflix gig, which was produced by What Women Want’s Susan Cartsonis; collaborating with fellow Aussies, composer Michael Yezerski and editor Jane Moran; and how her career has ebbed and flowed since her debut film The Black Balloon.
Q: How did you get the gig?

"I'm trying to help them, but it's like a brick wall." Netflix has debuted a trailer for an upbeat dance comedy titled Feel the Beat, from director Elissa Down. Feel the Beat stars actress / dancer Sofia Carson (from "Pretty Little Liars: The Perfectionists" and Disney Channel shows) as April. The full cast includes Enrico Colantoni, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Dennis Andres, Wolfgang Novogratz, Donna Lynne Champlin, Brandon Kyle Goodman, Rex Lee, and Marcia Bennett. Netflix has confirmed that 47 new original movies, series, documentaries and specials will be debuting on the streaming service in June. Leading off the lineup are the debut of “Da 5 Bloods,” a film by Oscar winner Spike Lee about four Vietnam vets revisiting their past, and the second season of Ryan Murphy‘s satire “The Politician.” And just in time for Pride is season 5 of “Queer Eye.”
The documentary slate is filled with such varied films as “Spelling the Dream” about the Scripps National Spelling Bee, “Lenox Hill” about the staff of the famed New York hospital, and “Athlete A” about the sexually abuse scandal that rocked the Us gymnastics team
